Do you feel aggrieved if your hotel room has two singles rather than a double?

I've just been procrastinating on TripAdvisor. Looking at the reviews on hotels I've stayed in and I'm going to stay in. A common complaint is 'there wasn't a double bed'. Personally I can't think of anything nicer! My own space, blankets etc. If I you fancy a bit of how's your father your partner is in the next bed not the chuffing gatekeepers cottage..
I just wanted to know if it genuinely bothers people because personally I see no downsides Grin

I love DH but when I see two singles It's like a holiday from the constant cover stealing and DH stealing most of the bed if I move or get up. It's nice to have my own bed for once. But if I booked a double I would be a bit annoyed that I got two singles.

StereophonicallyChallenged · 03/10/2018 07:14

I'm in a long distance relationship so am often using hotels for their intended purpose Wink
I'd be back down to reception like a shot if I ever encountered 2 singles Grin

IntentsAndPorpoises · 03/10/2018 07:14

@pinkhorse I can't sleep touching anyone. I don't really like sharing a room with anyone, I'd have my own room at home if I could. We have different sleep patterns, like going to bed at different timses. And he snores and farts. We already have two duvets so we can have a different tog.

Being able to have a good night's sleep is no reflection on the state of your relationship. Lots of couples have sepaate rooms.

We're going away in a couple of weeks and the photos in trip advisor show 2 singles. I haven't told dh yet as I know he'll freak as we are going away for our anniversary 😂.

ToadOfSadness · 03/10/2018 07:19

I hate a double. We always booked a room with 2 beds, or a sofa bed and bed. Once booked a special late deal and arrived to find one huge bed. I slept on the floor rather than share it.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 03/10/2018 07:20

Don't like it because I can't easily shove him if he snores.

DollyWilde · 03/10/2018 07:20

Oh see I hate not sharing with DH! We don’t sleep cuddled up but I do miss the gently dropping off snuggly bit. I’d be really disappointed with two singles. But then we are both non-snoring non-cover stealers. And we’ve only been married 3 months with no kids Grin

DonnaDarko · 03/10/2018 07:23

The one time we ended up with a twin instead of a double, the room was big enough for us to push the beds to one side and put the mattresses together on the floor. Sorted!

Now we have DS, we always book family rooms anyway

LoniceraJaponica · 03/10/2018 07:28

I can't get to sleep if I am snuggled up to someone either. I need my own space. We have a super king sized bed at home.

Nenic · 03/10/2018 07:29

I hate it. Love cuddling up at night

anniehm · 03/10/2018 07:32

Haven't come across this for years, but in Greece in particular they just push two singles together when it's a couple and you request double which I found annoying (if they state singles at the time of booking you have a choice). As a note, if you stay in Germany expect two single duvets on a double bed, this is local custom, my German friend cant understand why we would want to share a duvet!

Sirzy · 03/10/2018 07:34

To me is about getting what you booked.

If I book a double I want a double!

If I book a twin I want two beds.

Often people will book a particular type for a reason.

pinkhorse · 03/10/2018 07:50

It's interesting hearing all these views. I'm quite shocked actually! For me, sleeping with dp gives us that intimacy that you don't get with anyone else. Nothing is more intimate than sleeping close to somebody. I couldn't be in a relationship without that.

donajimena · 03/10/2018 08:14

pink I love a good cuddle and intimacy as much as anyone else. But sleeping? I get way too hot.

I love sleeping on my own, but I need a double bed! A single is far too small.

LoniceraJaponica · 03/10/2018 08:19

"I'm quite shocked actually!"

I'm shocked that you are shocked. Like donajimena I like a cuddle, but I hate being interfered with or feeling claustrophobic when I am trying to sleep. I need my space. We turn our backs on each other when we go to sleep. It clearly works for us as we have been married for 37 years.

How on earth would you cope if your partner was away for the night or travelled for work?

Firstbornunicorn · 03/10/2018 08:28

This happened to us on honeymoon. We weren't happy about it then, for obvious reasons, but I wouldn't mind so much now.

gothefcktosleep · 03/10/2018 08:30

Can’t stand it. Even if you push them together it’s not the bloody same. I feel really irate about it xxx

gothefcktosleep · 03/10/2018 08:31

Have the kisses as an early morning treat - clearly on a different planet this morning ConfusedBlush

TheNavigator · 03/10/2018 08:34

I usually prefer a double bed, for over 20 years I have struggled to sleep unless spooned with my DH. However, I am now having horrific night sweats, so suddenly I am flinging him and the covers away - menopause utterly sucks.

Meet0nTheIedge · 03/10/2018 08:35

I like a cuddle too, but not when I'm trying to sleep, like Lonicera we turn our backs for the sleeping part. I couldn't be in a relationship with anyone that insisted on sleeping cuddled up.

serbska · 03/10/2018 08:38

Massively bothers me if the ‘queen bed’ turns out to be two singles.

stegosauruslady · 03/10/2018 08:39

As someone who really has fallen down the middle of two singles pretending to be a double (DP was unimpressed when I made him stop what he was doing to climb back up! Grin), yes I'm annoyed by this!

IWouldLikeToKnow · 03/10/2018 08:41

I've only once booked a double and got a twin. That was in the Middle East and we weren't married so had different surnames. I wondered if this was the reason. Other than that, if I booked a double room, I got a double bed. If I booked a twin I got two singles. Not sure which hotels randomly allocate beds

pacer142 · 03/10/2018 08:42

Surely these days you get the option of beds when booking? I've booked at 3 chain hotels over this last Summer and could choose doubles or singles as part of the booking. Likewise, I've booked into a country/pub hotel for later this month and could choose the exact room from their website so again, I know what bed/s I'm getting.

I'd never assume it was one or the other and quite simply wouldn't book with any hotel where I couldn't confirm at the point of booking.
