I think I need a shopping trolley

I've moved to a smallish market town and I'm delighted to be in walking distance of a smallish town centre. But fuck me I can't carry any heavy bags. I think I need a wheelie shopping trolley.

I would quite like one that folds down so I don't have to leave it around the house, but are they annoyingly floppy when you open them up?

I've got one of those big square ones with four wheels - it's great (I can't carry anything heavy either) It is a bit of a space hogger in the house though. I used to have a fold up one and it was annoyingly floppy and a bit tricky to manoevre - but it was a fairly cheap one, you can maybe get better ones for more money. I prefer one with a solid frame though.

I couldn't get on with mine like that and got one with a solid frame in the end, with a trolley handle on when I go to the big shop, I found it difficult to use and it didn't carry much weight successfully. The guidelines, in my experience, tend to overestimate how much they'll carry.

I leurve my shopping trolley. Wish I'd bought it years previously and not worried about people thinking it was an 'old lady trolley'.
Mine doesn't collapse though. I suspect they wouldn't be strong enough.

Scifi101 · 02/10/2018 23:32

Would love links and recommendations for a good shopping trolley.

Good shopping is so heavy!

Scifi101 · 02/10/2018 23:33

Food!!!!!

Becca19962014 · 02/10/2018 23:46

This is mine, I bought months ago recommended by someone and it's still going strong. It's doesn't hold as much as I expected it to but it does for me.

AlpacaLypse · 02/10/2018 23:54

I bought mine at a country fair shortly after my twins had stopped using a buggy because they could now walk everywhere. I hadn't realised how amazingly useful the tray under the buggy was for Stuff until I didn't have it any more. It nicely fits a picnic blanket, plus the picnic, and all the paraphernalia you need for a trip to somewhere where the car park isn't particularly close to where you want to be. And at home, it swallows up 4 pints of milk a pack of cat food and the makings of supper, breakfast and lunch very easily. It folds sort of flat, easy enough to stash it under the stairs when not needed. My now teenage daughters call it The Pink Trolley Of Grannyness. I don't care. I love it!

AviatorShades · 03/10/2018 00:11

Prestige. Google that, OP, or walkandrest.com .I'm quite recently disabled and I'm not going to get any better. Saw a woman with one and accosted her for the details. As you do.Grin

So, this is a walker/shopper/seat by virtue of the fact it has a (removable) seat lid thingy. And it's deep enough and sturdy enough to hold a few bottles of wine as well as foodWink. And it folds up when not in use.

British made, nice people on the phone, no's 01268726661. Since buying mine I've been stopped a couple of times for details. Love itStar

BasiliskStare · 03/10/2018 00:12

Oh Becca - well posted - I may have to order the navy blue one Grin

BasiliskStare · 03/10/2018 00:14

May have to look at prestige one also - I am of an age where I simply do not care about walking up the road with a trolley - thanks Aviator

AviatorShades · 03/10/2018 00:17

btw, my Prestige one is sortov the Silver Cross of shopping trolleys, so the price tag was about 90.00? Worth it, tho.Smile

BasiliskStare · 03/10/2018 01:45

Thanks both - I shall be hunting one down Grin Oh and Aviator , my brother and I had a silver cross pram which looked a bit like a boat , so am up for the silver cross of shopping trollies. Thank you Aviator and Becca

Enervator · 03/10/2018 08:01

Brilliant, thanks everyone. I don't think I need a seat one anymore... I was in a mobility scooter for a long time and a seat trolley would have been much easier to manage in the shops! And sounds like a collapsible one will be too flimsy.

I guess the 'normal' ones do go kind of flat so I should be able to slide it under the stairs.

I've seen the Hoppa ones... The shoe design is sold out on Amazon and I think it is because all the over 70s in my town have got it!

I used to use my weekend case when I was a student!

Enervator · 03/10/2018 08:30

Yes, I wondered about my wheelie suitcase but I think a) you'd have to lie it down to unzip it, b) it is kind of heavy on it's own and c) not sure the wheels are made for crappy potholed pavements rather than nice smooth airport floors!

Believeitornot · 03/10/2018 09:04

Wrong thread @lynmilne65 ?!

UterusUterusGhali · 03/10/2018 09:20

Lyn Grin My shopping trolley is in sexy leopard print, I'll have you know, so I still get plenty of cock despite using one. 😎

AviatorShades · 03/10/2018 09:22

Oh, thanks for posting that link peridito. That prestige one with the backrest and arms? When I first saw the picture of it I thought "Oooh!, a commode with wheels - what a good idea! BlushGrin

There's also a place to lodge your umbrella, btw, but for me its USP is its capability to safely carry 6 bottles of wine in a carrier.Wink And I guess at Christmas if I take the lid/seat off I could bring home a tree?....

AviatorShades · 03/10/2018 09:25

Uterus, a leopard, or a cougar? Grin

Giggorata · 03/10/2018 09:26

I bought mine for £10 in a charity shop and spray painted it with purple, pink and blue paint. If I’ve got to have one, it's going to be snazzy...
It's made it waterproof, too.
It's a 4 wheeler, which means it takes up space, but it's much better than the 2 wheel versions, being free standing and better ergonomically, as you don't have to drag it behind you.

peridito · 03/10/2018 09:27

Aviator I'm sure a simple adaptation with a potty ....

Commodes on wheels are common though .

Becca19962014 · 03/10/2018 09:31

aviator I did the same thing with mine, accosted someone to find out where they got it from. One of my main difficulties was finding a way to manage the trolley in the supermarket (hard enough best of times for me) and a shopping trolley.

The only problem I had was the wheels weren't very stable, turned out you need to push them on very hard!

I don't use it everyday, once maybe twice a week and it's been fine so far.
