I would love to take my kind, kind dh to a really good restaurant with rooms or hotel with fine dining in Northumberland for his birthday. It was one of his favourite parts of the world when he was too young and poor for posh eating and he is a real foodie.

Can anyone recommend something really special? He deserves it. Thank you .

The Feathers doesn’t have rooms though. But it’s the best for miles!

Naughtylittleflea · 01/10/2018 19:35

Battlesteads and Barrasford arms.
Yum

MrsMattWillis · 01/10/2018 19:41

The running fox in Felton is nice

StormyDaniels · 01/10/2018 19:46

Eshott Hall
Matfen Hall
Lord Crewe Arms
Alnwick Treehouse restaurant
Northumberland Arms (in the same village as the Running fox ^)

I don't mean to be rude but the Snowy Owl isn't really fine dining.

Laughing at the Hogshead being classes as fine dining!

I'd go to the Treehouse at Alnwick Gardens. Maybe not completely fine dining but unique.

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/10/2018 20:44

www.langleycastle.co.uk is lovely and very atmospheric. Great food last time I was there.

WellErrr · 01/10/2018 20:45

I'd go to the Treehouse too. It is an actual treehouse and the tree grows through the restaurant.

Or the chippy at Seahouses is amazing 😂

(Just wondering how many people on this thread I know..!)

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/10/2018 20:47

I'm planning some nice meals out based on this thread Smile

Jasper's in Amble. Not fine dining, but one of the nicest little fish bistros about. The fish pie comes with a langoustine on top!

thurmanmerman · 02/10/2018 09:37

Ooh The Feathers ..

Urbanbeetler · 02/10/2018 13:28

Have booked Lord Crewe for a special night at the start of the break and Raby Hunt with nearby b&b at the end of the break. The menu looks amazing!

Thank you so much for your support everyone. This break means a lot to us.

We are going to try to fit in a lunch at the Treehouse too! Certainly visiting Alnwick.

Sounds lovely! Is it in the winter? Lord Crewe Arms is so cosy in autumn/winter.

Urbanbeetler · 02/10/2018 13:36

Yup. I got my Lord Crewes mixed up. There’s one in Bamburgh too. But It’s the Blanchard one we are staying at.

Treehouse is lovely. Cook and Barker in Newton on the Moor well worth a look too, for future reference.

Linder Hall Hotel in Longhorsley (part of the MacDonald Hotel group), I believe it has 5 stars. My brother used to work there and it used to live up to it's reputation then.

Otterburn Hall (in Otterburn) also good, stayed there overnight for our 10th wedding anniversary many years ago. Really enjoyed that. (That is where we discovered Pomme Pont Neuf are nine fat chips arranged poshly beside your steak!)

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 02/10/2018 23:54

Have a lovely time @urbanbeetler!

ScattyScorpian · 03/10/2018 00:16

Otterburn hall has been derelict for a few years now sadly.

thurmanmerman · 05/10/2018 14:35

@ScattyScorpian is Otterburn Castle Hotel different from Otterburn Hall? I drive through there a few times a year and it looks nice!

ScattyScorpian · 05/10/2018 19:10

Yes Otterburn Castle (tower) is still going and a popular wedding venue but Otterburn hall is more off the beaten track and has been 'in the process' of being renovated for years and years now but there are numerous modern holiday lodges in the grounds rented out all year round.

Urbanbeetler · 05/10/2018 19:43

Thanks Florence!

My neck of the woods. You've been well advised and chosen well. Have a wonderful time x

MsSquiz · 05/10/2018 19:52

I am hugely biased as I live in Northumberland:
Walwick Hall is gorgeous, food is amazing and the rooms are lovely (slightly biased again, as a friend owns it)
William De Percy in Otterburn has the most beautiful rooms, food is unbelievable and the bar is one you could sit in for hours (we got married at Le Petit Chateau which the wedding venue attached to the pub)
The Running Fox in Felton is supposed to do the best food, especially afternoon tea. I heard a lot of great things about it but just haven't been yet.
The Treehouse in Alnwick Gardens - looks amazing but I've heard missed reviews, never actually been myself.
Doxford Hall - lovely food in the Hall, amid of accommodation in the grounds and main house, spa was ok the last time we visited but it may have been redone since then.
