I've got an 11 month old and I've not been myself since he's been born. I've got carpal tunnel and random ache and pains all over. I constantly feel foggy and tired despite the fact I've got a good sleeper. I've also developed diarrhoea IBS and find if I eat garlic I'm so ill. I've been to GP and paid and osteopath to try and sort it to little avail. Does it get better?

Anyone?

Are you breastfeeding? I had carpal tunnel, de quervains and all manners of aches and pains post partum. Plus some not pleasant gynae symptoms that are apparently linked to breastfeeding hormones. Felt completely out of it for 14 months until I stopped breastfeeding then within a couple of weeks I suddenly woke up one day feeling normal again.

I found it a really difficult journey. Everyone else I know seemed to be fine once their labour/c section stitches had healed, no one else seemed to have my long term symptoms. I sympathise, it was a really difficult time.

Physio was useless, osteo was wonderful. I also found doing a gentle postnatal Pilates dvd at home helpful, plus Epsom salt baths. But those just took the edge off, I didn’t feel ‘normal’ until this breastfeeding hormones were out of my system.

Just my thoughts x

No I never breastfed so that's out of the question. I feel like a 90 year old woman and it puts me off having another I feel so rough some days

Ah, not that then. Assume doc has done blood tests to rule out any deficiencies, hormone imbalances, rheumatoid arthritis etc?

I hope someone comes along with more advice, must be so frustrating to not know what the problem is. Hauling an 11 month old around with carpal tunnel and aching shoulders and back is not fun.

FurryAndObnoxious · 26/09/2018 21:01

I have pcos so prob do have hormonal imbalances. All bloods were ok. I'm just fed up of the diarrhoea and pain lol.

FurryAndObnoxious · 26/09/2018 21:02

Haven't been treated for rheumatoid but I imagine that would be unusual?

I had a blood test for RA and when to see a rheumatologist to check. Blood test was negative and was told it was probably breastfeeding related but to go back if it continued when I stopped. I heard that RA can be triggered by pregnancy, totally anecdotally. Might be worth exploring, it’s fairly easy to rule out.

FurryAndObnoxious · 26/09/2018 21:07

I've also recently come off Prozac so not sure if that's related. I notice the pains subside when I exercise so maybe I need to strengthen myself back up again?

OP, my DS ls 5 months and I could have written this post!!! Toilet is a nightmare. Can't go out for long periods of time because now when I've got to go,I've GOT to go! I used to have a bladder/bowel of steel

My physio lady says that's to do with the prolapse though. Could it be the same for you?

FurryAndObnoxious · 26/09/2018 21:28

hi don't think i have a prolapse how would I know? I've had a smear and it wasn't mentioned. I've narrowed it down to garlic that I struggle with it gives me terrible diarrhoea. It's just horrible isn't it?

I'm improving my diet and I drink lots of water always have. I have to be careful with certain foods as I can't bear the diarrhoea. I had antenatal depression but didn't start Prozac until after his birth. I am ready to come off them as I can't be on them forever.
I take ds out nearly every day and go running 3 times a week

Get a printout if the blood results. What were your actual levels in the thyroid panel/ferritin etc?

FurryAndObnoxious · 26/09/2018 21:44

She went through all my bloods on screen they were all mid range. My EGFR was a bit low but raised when I got it 're tested

I wouldn't say I felt as bad as you describe but definitely felt quite out of sorts till my son was 9-11months and I went back to work. I felt quite achey, I think it was all the lifting and repetitive actions. Interrupted sleep takes it's toll too. (Also didn't bf.)
Found I'm been much better now that I take glucosamine with condroitin supplements, evening primrose and a bit of yoga. I felt psychologically a lot better when I went back to work. I've been making a lot more time for myself too.
Keep at the doctor if you don't feel better.
