Came for a consult then colour...3 and a half hours later and I'm still sat with wraps on my hair. I need Gin

My hairdresser comes to the house - same age, known her for years, very good. It’s relaxing and efficient .

I used to love going. I went to the same lady for years, always got my hair perfect.
Life happened, including me moving to a new city miles from where I grew up. I didn't have my hair done for 6 years. Anyway i recently had it done by someone who came highly recommended. And she did a wonderful job. So I still love going now, as I've found someone equally as brilliant. I find it so relaxing.

ANiceLentilHotpot · 24/09/2018 20:35

@goforkyourself I get lovely ASMR relaxing tingly feelings from the head massage too. Unfortunately I then have to spend half an hour looking at myself in a mirror and doing small talk, which I'm rubbish at, so i end up more tense than when I went in.

I hate it- so now I have a mobile hairdresser that does mine and my friends hair at the same time. So it feels more like a social thing.

Heathcliff27 · 24/09/2018 20:46

I love it, getting my hair coloured on Friday, I get peace to read my book and drink a whole cup of coffee while its hot

toffee1000 · 24/09/2018 20:48

I used to hate going. I had very long, thick, curly hair that was a pain in the arse to deal with. Sometimes two hairdressers would be dealing with me, it was that bad. I then got it cut short in January 2011 and oh my god it's so much easier to deal with. I have ASD, and although I don't have many sensory problems, I've always had issues round my head. One of the main ones being that I dislike the sensation of running shower water over my face, with the consequence being that I am terrible at washing my own hair. I can do it, but not very well. I know that at the hairdressers I get my hair washed properly, and a nice 'do' as well. If I had the money I would definitely get a wash and blow-dry every week. I never talk much to my hairdresser. I've had the same one for years, he used to do my hair back when it was long.

LordOfTheFleas · 24/09/2018 21:12

I hate it so much. It's been over a year now, really looks shit and needs cutting. It's such a pain though having to arrange childcare and wasting time away from my DC just to sit in a chair making inane chitchat with people I don't care about while getting a boring chore done.
Would they think I was rude if I just read a book?

QuackPorridgeBacon · 24/09/2018 22:15

toffee1000 I’ve had two people tackling my hair before too lol. Was very thick and very long, I’ve since cut it short and it’s also when I really started to enjoy going, I go roughly every five/six weeks now.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 24/09/2018 22:16

Hate it. Haven't had my hair cut professionally in nearly 20 years. I can't bear the feeling of someone's hands in my hair.

toffee1000 · 24/09/2018 22:19

Hopefully not LordOfTheFleas. At my place they often provide you with magazines. I'm sure they're used to people reading books/their Kindle or whatever.

altiara · 24/09/2018 22:46

I love it! I like the massage chair and head massage and I love watching other people get their hair cut as I attempt to store up tips on how to cut hair in case I can do my own for free. Sadly I practiced on DD and now there’s nothing she likes more than going to the hairdressers Grin To be fair, I also loved it when I had a mobile hairdresser that charged me £10 (£15 for DD and I).

Dowser · 24/09/2018 22:47

Yes...she comes to me...👍

Amiable · 24/09/2018 22:49

Love it! A bit like @AgentProvocateur, I've always said if money were no object I would pay to have a personal hairdresser. Someone to wash and style my hair every day, absolute bliss!

HildaZelda · 24/09/2018 23:14

Absolutely hate it with a passion. I haven't been in about a year because I've been letting it grow out from a pixie. It's shoulder length now, but really needs a trim.I absolutely LOATHE the thought of going.

MrsAmaretto · 24/09/2018 23:59

Love it - I get a cut and colour so I’m there for a few hours. I’m mum friends with a couple of the hairdressers and enjoy having the time to sit and drink tea and read the book I bring.

laceygo · 25/09/2018 00:04

Love the massagy bit and the cutting but always hate how they blow dry it

Didsomeonesaybunny · 25/09/2018 00:11

I adore the mini-pamper session. I usually try and write my beauty treatments done at the same time (mani/pedi) so the time flies. I also think it helps that I adore my hairdressers and beauty therapist. I love to have a catch up with them, it’s almost like a therapy session but you come out feeling and looking fabulous!

firsttimebabybirther · 25/09/2018 00:16

Love it! I have a good "relationship" with my hairdresser so we tend to chat the face off each other and she knows that I HATE having my hair blow dried so I have 2 people blast it dry really quickly.

I also don't have to stress about having a babysitter as I barely see DS in there anyway as he's too busy being squeezed by all the staff and being the star of their Instagram Grin ( he's 6 month so a bit easier than people with older kids I'm sure )

But I get why some people hate it.

tissuebox · 25/09/2018 12:47

But the bullet and just had my colour done, so that’s over with for a few weeks . Unfortunately my towel slipped and I instinctively grabbed it and got colour on my nails and now it’s pricessed it won’t come off. So have to get a dark nail varnish now. Have booked a manicure for 2.00pm!

tissuebox · 25/09/2018 12:48

Bit not but

tissuebox · 25/09/2018 12:49

Processed

Wtf? Is pricessed even a word?!

Justanotheruser01 · 25/09/2018 12:53

I adore my hairdresser she charges really reasonable prices is happy to work around me with my work hours her work is lovely
as im normally there late on we have wine and takeaway night the air is blue when we get going Probably more a friend than my hairdresser!

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 25/09/2018 12:53

I love it!! There's little phone signal at my hairdressers and it's bliss!!

I download something's to read or some offline games and I enjoy not having to run around for a while.

wellhonestly · 25/09/2018 13:01

Love it, but then I also consider the dentist "me-time" Confused

Also I don't have to spend 3.5 hrs on a haircut, my local salon is reasonable priced, the two stylists have been there for years and are good fun, there's as much coffee as I can drink and plenty of magazines. I am in hog heaven!

MissCalamity · 25/09/2018 13:01

I used to hate it, however I now go to my brother's friend's salon & she is lovely, does all the talking for both of us Grin
Easy to park, roughly two hours or so & if my DD isn't with me, I can normally read my book in peace, while the colour is setting.
