Where to buy white goods from....

keyboardjellyfish · 24/09/2018 11:39

Looking for some mumsnet wisdom :)

Finally moving into a council flat with no white goods after privately renting for ages and not having to buy them. My budget is £1.3k including insurance and the goods being fitted in. Where's the best place to go? I was looking at Currys but apparently they're not that widely recommended, so thought I'd ask here. Thanks :)

Sorry, should say that's for a fridge, washing machine and cooker/oven.

My ds is getting his stuff from Curry 's, currently have to spend £600 get £60 off and free delivery!

MrsPear · 24/09/2018 11:43

I use AO.com - they price match too. Do once you choose google and ring if not the cheapest. Scroll through delivery days if not fussy to find the free or cheapest one.

mnahmnah · 24/09/2018 11:44

Curry’s delivery was terrible for us with two separate purchases. Lots of people recommended ao to us

keyboardjellyfish · 24/09/2018 11:46

Thanks all. If anyone can recommend specific white goods that would also be amazing, I'm completely lost!

I would say John Lewis. Their prices are often surprisingly cheaper than other places, they seem to care a bit more about their customers and they do 2 year guarantees.

I would say your budget is good - £400 for a cooker, £300 for the washing machine, £500 for the fridge.

ItWentInMyEye · 24/09/2018 11:47

Ive just used appliances direct as the same oven with them was £60 cheaper than other online shops.

Lauren0rder · 24/09/2018 11:48

Curry’s are shocking.

John Lewis price match.

NameChanger22 · 24/09/2018 11:49

Zanussi washing machine. My last one lasted 20 years. I have a Hotpoint cooker (now 8 years old and still ok) and a Smeg fridge (also 8 years old, I'm hoping it will last a long time as it cost a lot).

FreckledLeopard · 24/09/2018 11:49

I really like ao.com - good service, very helpful and normally there are cashback offers too, if you use something like quidco.

HoleyCoMoley · 24/09/2018 11:49

What do you need. You can get under counter fridge and washing machines cheap on a.o.

ShatnersBassoon · 24/09/2018 11:53

Ao.com are excellent for value and service in my experience.

keyboardjellyfish · 24/09/2018 11:53

I need a fridge freezer as I often host people, and look after my sister's children one night a week- so need plenty of space. So undercounter wouldn't cut it I'm afraid! Thanks for the recs so far, currently checking out AO.

I liked ao too. Next day delivery, very helpful

Look at some of the brands you might not immediately think of. Our dishwasher is Beto and I would never initially have considered it, but it has some good features and was much cheaper than the one with the same features that was £800.

DGRossetti · 24/09/2018 12:00

We've been using www.hughes.co.uk for years now. Can't fault them.

keyboardjellyfish · 24/09/2018 12:00

Are Indesit any good for fridge freezers?

Cindersdonegood · 24/09/2018 12:01

I'm an AO (aka Appliances Direct) fan too. I wouldn't recommend a specific appliance as everybody's needs are different but have a good think what you want and what suits you. Is it just you? Are you looking to expand the family? A washer for our 5 person family needs to be big, so I select 10KG + models on ao.com. I also want the highest RPM so will click 1600 spin. Where will it fit? Have you checked the height, width and depth? I've had a tumble drier that stuck out because it was too deep for the stupid kitchen of the newly rented place once.
AO.com have videos walking you through most appliances, what they offer etc. They also have plenty of reviews. Use that site to find what you need (using the filtering) and then google search for the cheapest price for that particular item. AO will price match whatever you find.

I agree with app who said I think around £400 mark for cooker, £300 for washer and £500 on fridge. Any less than that and they're lower end quality (still just fine but may last a shorter time and not have the features to help make your life easier.)

keyboardjellyfish · 24/09/2018 12:06

Thanks everyone, this is really helpful

Are Swan fridges any good?

Cindersdonegood · 24/09/2018 12:08

Please do be aware that after you buy these items, you may get a call about the insurance with them. Domestic and General insurers get contact details off many big companies and whilst not exactly lying on the phone, they sort of give the impression they're calling from the manufacturers/stores/sky tv etc. Slightly dodgy sales tactics aside I DO recommend them. Just not for the first year when you're covered anyway! Tell them to phone back in 12 months time or whenever the warranty runs out. They always do and the insurance is great. I've had my very old beko cooker repaired a few times, including a new oven door when I got a deep scratch on mine due to kitchen works. My washer is coming up for 2 years old and I'm expecting a call from D&G because the warranty will expire.

MsHomeSlice · 24/09/2018 12:10

another vote for AO....delivery guys are usually really sweet and helpful

and their website works...you click your wants, and it actually gives you what you asked for, not what they want you to see even though you asked for 8kg,1400spin, price low to high so you don't have to check and double check and re double check the thing you are about to buy is not overpriced and a 1000spin 3kg machine.

..yes Argos and most holiday sites I am looking at all of yous!

Cindersdonegood · 24/09/2018 12:11

I've a Beko fridge freezer that is at least 7 years old and doing fine. My Beko cooker is older. Beko Tumble dryer is well over 10 years and my Hoover washer is just under 2 and is starting to go a little loopy in the electrics so I wouldn't recommend that one.

groundcontroltomontydon · 24/09/2018 12:13

ao.com for me. Used to always buy white goods from JL but had way too many disasters. I had an Indesit tabletop diswasher which was great but I bought my mum an Indesit fridgefreezer and it's rubbish.

keyboardjellyfish · 24/09/2018 12:13

So currently sitting in my AO basket... Swan fridge freezer, newworld gas cooker and Zanussi washing machine. Thoughts?

More love for AO here. They’ve been cracking for everything I’ve ordered. Argos were shocking, changing delivery times without notice even when I’d paid for named day delivery. John Lewis we’re god too. I got my dishwasher with them and the two delivery guys were epic.
