Where to buy white goods from....

Looking for some mumsnet wisdom :)

Finally moving into a council flat with no white goods after privately renting for ages and not having to buy them. My budget is £1.3k including insurance and the goods being fitted in. Where's the best place to go? I was looking at Currys but apparently they're not that widely recommended, so thought I'd ask here. Thanks :)

Well OP my first thought would be is it a gas connection in the kitchen or electric? Grin I do know someone who made that little mistake. Cost her quite a bit to sort out! 😂

The problem with recommendations is that you can only truly recommend what you have owned for years and years (longevity is key with white goods) but by the time you know it's bloody good, the manufacturers have moved on and are making different models that may be rubbish now. Apparently Hotpoints are out of favour now as they are being made with a number of faults.

Good luck!

Ao or John Lewis. Nothing but shit from Curry’s every time we have been daft enough to shop there

GimmeBread · 24/09/2018 12:31

If you can get membership, Costco are fantastic. High quality reasonable prices and often a five year warranty included.

Otherwise I'm another voter of AO. Go through TopCashback!!!

This might sound a bit Hmm but if you are anywhere near Oxfordshire you could take a look at the Miele outlet in Abingdon. Some of their stuff (that has had light use and/or the odd cosmetic imperfection) is half RRP. Not the cheapest but if you look at the stock list below there is a washing machine and fridge on there that would fall within budget and they should last for years. They can deliver and I think install.

Definitely co-op electrical !
I have used them on a number of occasions now and customer service and prices both good.

Wherever you end up buying from don't forget to use topcashback website to shop through- especially when spending that large amount of money it'll defo be worth it.
Congrats on your new house - enjoy Thanks

If you can transport stuff and money is tight elsewhere in your budget it may be worth looking at going used and using the rest of the budget for other things.

My last washing machine was £20, fridge freezer £35, cookers tend to be similar money.

Ktay · 24/09/2018 12:36

PS you get the usual warranty and everything

carbuckety · 24/09/2018 12:36

My repair man says bell are best priced brand thatbyou can always get parts for

Ktay · 24/09/2018 12:38

Another thought - our local Euronics shops have been good in the past and we (DH) negotiated a discount for buying several items at once.

Growingboys · 24/09/2018 12:41

Zanussi are great.

Agree re don't touch Currys with a barge pole. Also double double check the measurements of the machines vs your hole in the kitchen. They can be misleading.

Check on the manufacturer's website if in doubt. When I bought a washing machine from Currys they gave smaller measurements than the real ones.

When I complained they said I should have checked on the manufacturer's one! I sent it back and bought at John Lewis instead - should have gone there in the first place. But AO is also great.

someonekillbabyshark · 24/09/2018 12:46

I have Beko Washer and fridge and a hotpoint cooker x make sure you heck warranty on them KG on washing machine and spin speed xx

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/09/2018 19:23

I've had great service from curry's. They delivered a dishwasher the next day and John Lewis was more expensive and would have taken a week. Ao. Com also good. Don't bother with insurance, total con. Just save the money instead

carbuckety · 24/09/2018 22:01

BEKO bloody autocorrect

Lwmommy · 24/09/2018 22:05

www.bootskitchenappliances.com. They are part of AO.com, the service is great and you get boots points.
