Need advice reassurance I’m going out my mind with worry.
My little ds cut his head open about 6 weeks ago it looks awful a long scar. could I ask you about recovery time did it take a long time to fade, did you need to use any treatment?
Every time I look at him my heart drops don’t know whether to ask to see plastic surgeon again who weirdly said at time (didn’t push it was too upset) that revision surgery would probably be offered if ds was a girl as boys worry less about facial scars and psychologically it’s less worrying for them 🤔
Should I see another dr? Ds is nearly 3 and accident about 6 weeks ago think scarring looking worse now than at the time seems bigger and more pinched :(

Smile I do remember googling 'before and after scar pictures' or something like that a lot when he first did it but by the way he did it, I was lucky it wasn't his eye. I don't know what looking pinched is but I have attached some pictures so you can see how it has faded over the past year. Last picture was taken today (would only let me add three)

Op his scar will fade to nothing.

It was an accident, not caused by you, but caused by walking on wet tiles - that’s a risk at pools, but the benefit of learning to swim far outweighs the downside.

Scars fade, allow your memories and guilt to fade too.

Mine split his forehead to the bone when he slipped on a wet path at the park and hit his head on a metal bench. It needed six stitches and the scar was quite red at first, but we used lots of moisturiser on it and kept it out of the sun (bought ruinously expensive silicone scar gel but it irritated his skin like mad - we ended up using vitamin e cream and pure rosehip oil) and within a year it had faded to a very thin white line. Four years on, you can still just about see it if you're looking for it, but it's not noticeable in the slightest and he's forgotten all about it.

I can sympathize with you OP. My first had a fall that resulted in a facial scar and for over a year I felt a tiny pang of regret when I saw it because I knew if I'd caught him sooner it wouldn't have happened. The other day I noticed it when I was looking at him and realised I'd not noticed it in several months now, it has faded so much.

Accidents happen, you did nothing wrong in taking him swimming and it will fade. Try not to let him see it bothers you.

Get some Bio Oil on it once it's fully healed. The colour will almost certainly fade, even if there's a bump or a little trough. I've got a small facial scar that's the same colour as the rest of my face - it's just a little ridge that only shows if I've been in the sun.

I once met two little boys who'd both had to have surgery on their skulls as babies. Both had a long wiggly scar line over their head, from ear to ear. One parted his hair to show me his after his brother and their mum were telling me all the funny stories they make up about his scar. Some days it's from a brain transplant, some days a shark attack.

The doc told us to use oil (any, don’t waste your money on bio oil) and run the scar firmly every day. It will help it heal flat.
