when did they start walking?

My dd is 5.5 months and has just started crawling. My ds was quite a bit later so am just curious when I can expect her to walk. I know it probably varies massively but interested in others' experiences!

My DS2 started crawling at 6months so i assumed he'd walk early, but he didn't walk til he was 18months - which was way later than my older DC.

SodTheBloodyLotOfThem · 22/09/2018 09:30

Not quite as early as yours but DS crawled at 6 months, and didn't walk until 13 months, whereas DD was 7.5 months crawling and 11 months walking.

Verbena87 · 22/09/2018 09:30

My son crawled just before 6 months but still isn’t walking at 1. I think crawling is so efficient he doesn’t see the need.

Crawled just after 6 months and started walking at 8 and a half. Seems to have skipped the baby stage completely and went straight to full blown terror!

Theweasleytwins · 22/09/2018 09:32

My twins started crawling at 5 months. They then didnt walk until 17 months

Mine waS commando crawling at 4mns and walking well at 9. And climbing around 1. It was so stressful as he had so little understanding of danger. I hope yours is kinder to you!

Justanewname · 22/09/2018 09:35

Mine crawled backwards at 5 months, forwards at 6 months and took first steps at 9 months. Properly walking at 11 months. I’m not convinced there’s any correlation between when they crawl and when they walk. After all some children go straight to walking and skip the crawling stage altogether.

deptfordgirl · 22/09/2018 09:36

Oh wow. I was definitely expecting her to walk before a year but doesn't seem to be the case!

Crawled at 5.5 months (hands and knees). Up the stairs at 6 months. Walked with push walker at 8 months. Didn't walk until 11 months. Skipped the toddling stage though.

whojamaflip · 22/09/2018 09:38

Dd didn't really crawl more dragged herself around with her arms! However she was cruising at 7 months and walking independently by 9 months Shock and she hasn't stopped since!

The other 3 dc followed a more average pattern of crawling around 5/6 months and walking about 15-18 months.

80sMum · 22/09/2018 09:39

DS was crawling by 6 months, walking holding onto the furniture at 9 months and started independent walking at 11 months. DD didn't start crawling till she was 9 months old and was walking at 16 months.

Witchend · 22/09/2018 09:43

8 months.
Discourage it, was a total.nightmare as she had no common sense at the age. Much easier with the one who walked at 13 months.

At 8.5 months she thought she would try balancing walking along the back of the sofa...

Thesearmsofmine · 22/09/2018 09:45

Crawled at 6 months and walked at 10 months. I’m not sure there is a correlation though.

I much preferred ds1 who crawled at 10 months and walked at 18 months! So much easier!

Junebug123 · 22/09/2018 09:45

Crawled 5ish months
Cruised early can't remember exactly when
Walked 16 months
He could move fast enough without walking so there was no desire to.

OrdinarySnowflake · 22/09/2018 09:46

Dc2 crawled at 5 months, walked at 11 months, could run really fast by 13 months!

(Dc1 took everything at a more leisurely pace - I wasn't expecting dc2 to do this!)

Scienceforthewin · 22/09/2018 09:47

Crawled 6 months, walking at 8 months

I got stopped by a total stranger who complained I shouldn't be letting my baby walk as she was too young. Rude yes, but in a way I agreed her with her - dd looked almost like a fake cgi baby walking when not old enough too!

BeeMyBaby · 22/09/2018 09:48

My DS could drag him self around at 4 months, commando crawl at 5m and properly crawled at 5.5m and could stand holding on at 6m but didn't walk till 16-17months. He was however amazing at crawling so I understand why he wasn't so keen on switching to walking.

deptfordgirl · 22/09/2018 10:08

So interesting. I guess they just all do everything at their own pace. My ds only crawled as confidently as dd is at around 9 months but was walking just after 1 so thought dd would probably be a lot sooner. She may just get everywhere she needs crawling!

Crawled at 6 months. Walking with a walker at 9 months and walking independently at 11 months. I think she could have done it earlier if she had wanted to. My toddler has been early for most gross motor milestones since so I think physical stuff is her natural preference.

lexi727 · 22/09/2018 13:55

He crawled at 5 months and was walking at 10 months. Seemed to take him ages to run though.

clary · 22/09/2018 14:02

DS2 was very mobile as tiny baby, crawled at 5mo, cruised at 7mo, walked at 9mo. All much earlier than my other two.

He climbed up and down stairs earlier than them, ditto things like hopping, skipping etc.

I do recall he was slower than some peers at speaking - maybe he just went and got what he wanted!

Interestingly (or maybe not) he is by far the most sporty of my three.

grumpypug · 22/09/2018 14:04

My DS started crawling at 4 months and walking at 8. It was a nightmare!

mangomama91 · 22/09/2018 14:09

My daughter did a commando crawl from 5/6 months and then a "proper" crawl at 10 months and walked at 14 months

namechangedforthisone123 · 22/09/2018 14:10

My other daughter crawled at 7 months and was walking at 10 1/2 months

RedPandaMama · 22/09/2018 14:11

My DD started crawling at 5 months. Took her first steps at 10 months but wasn't walking confidently until her first birthday. She's 13 months now and happily walks to the shops and back with me.
