How do you feel when you wake up in the morning?

Boring question, but I’ve been having some health problems for a while that are being investigated by the doctor, but I’m trying to work out how normal various things I’m feeling are.

When I wake up in the morning I always feel sick in my stomach and throat, and I always have a headache. I feel very dopey even after a good amount of sleep. I’m not pregnant, I’m very well hydrated, don’t drink a huge amount of caffeinated drinks that might contribute to these feelings. It’s like a mid-level hangover every day and it can last all morning. I’ve stopped drinking alcohol completely and for a while now and it’s made no difference. I need to get up motivated and ready for a busy day and I’m feeling pretty down about the constant sickness Sad

When you wake up, how do you feel?

Glad that I did! The alternative is much worse!

JeremyCorbynsBeard · 22/09/2018 09:22

How old are you, if it's not a rude question? I only ask because I find first thing in the morning so much worse at 50 than I did even 5 years ago. I'm very stiff and achy, but it wears off after being up for a while.

Yours sounds like it could be something in your room, or that the rooms too stuffy maybe? Or even a digestive issue?

It's miserable to wake up feeling crap though Flowers

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/09/2018 09:29

I’m 30. It’s not something in the room, I’m also having a lot of bowel problems as well which are definitely connected.

skunkatanka yes I’m definitely happier to be alive, would just like to feel well and alive!

Poor you, it sounds grim.

Are you snoring a lot? That could account for headache/ fog/fatigue, as it stops you going into deep sleep. (I speak from bitter experience, though losing weight is helping a lot). It can also leave me with a funny feeling in my throat from the air vibrating through it.

Having a window open helps, as does keeping the room cool.

topsyanddim · 22/09/2018 09:43

I generally feel rubbish every morning. I don’t feel sick but headachy and like I have a mild flu/ hangover. I think I just don’t sleep well

lynmilne65 · 22/09/2018 10:04

Skunka 😂😂

lynmilne65 · 22/09/2018 10:06

Am 67 and wake up relatively normal !! (Depending on ones POV !!)

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/09/2018 10:15

I don’t snore (have checked with DP) and always have a window open as I run hot. I’m chubby but not hugely overweight (BMI 28)
I often early wake and go back to sleep, so perhaps not getting enough restful sleep, but there’s enough other problems that indicate something more. Hopefully the doctor can figure it out because it’s started to feel normal to feel unwell and that’s just crap.

Lyn I’m glad you feel good in the morning!

Sounds digestive system related. I felt sick and had stomach ache every day until I gave up wheat. Within two weeks I stopped feeling sick and bloated on waking. I now go to toilet with regularity every day too and don't look pregnant all the time.
So perhaps you have an intolerance of some sort? Perhaps try an elimination diet?

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/09/2018 11:30

Yeh I think it’s possibly lactose, Coeliac disease or something else, factoring in the stomach/bowel issues as well. Hopefully the tests will come back with something. Hopefully not Coeliac disease!

OP posts:
IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/09/2018 11:30

I’m not eliminating anything at the moment because you can’t test for certain things, like Coeliac, if you’re not currently eating the foods

Like death! I have been to the docs and they think it is anemia. I can relate to the hangover feeling without drinking. It's shite 😣

AbeautifulBeast · 22/09/2018 11:59

Forgot to mention I'm only mid thirties!

Her0utdoors · 22/09/2018 12:06

Exhausted and resentful. I have two small children and a husband who 'can't' wake up early. If I have very fatty food, say a takeaway curry in the evening, I have that mid level hangover you describe. For some reason it worse with meat ( lamb/mutton)curry

lynmilne65 · 22/09/2018 12:12

Istherain certainly beats waking up hungover! ( not for last 30+ years!)

Lemmmonade · 22/09/2018 12:17

Generally pish Mon-Fri - tired, need more sleep, bloaty mostly if a heavy meal late at night. Anything with a lot of fat, or onions.

Oddly enough I tend to wake up at 6.45 on the weekend and feel fresh as a daisy. Bugger.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/09/2018 12:27

AbeautifulBeast it is shite, sorry you’re feeling it too. Anaemia is also one of the options being explored.

Lyn as a previously heavy drinker trying to stop/cut down, I was looking forward to waking up feeling lovely with no wine, but alas I feel crap anyway!

All my life, on waking, I've wished I could go back to sleep. That's just how I am and I accept it. My idea of Heaven is a long lie in. Once I get up I'm OK though takes me a while to properly 'come round'. If I get up too quickly I feel a bit dizzy and headachy. I like to wake gently.

lynmilne65 · 22/09/2018 12:35

Isitrain Patience it takes a while!

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/09/2018 12:41

Rebecca36 I’ve had periods of my life like that, and periods were I can jump out of bed. I really need an early start these days to get done what I need to, I’d love to feel good in the morning

OP posts:
Synecdoche · 22/09/2018 12:45

Could it be an acid reflux/GERD type problem? Try propping yourself up in bed (or raising the head of the bed itself) and see if that makes any difference?

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/09/2018 13:09

It’s possible, the bowel issues suggest something there as well though. I would really struggle to sleep not flat, I already don’t sleep massively well.
