How do you feel when you wake up in the morning?

Boring question, but I’ve been having some health problems for a while that are being investigated by the doctor, but I’m trying to work out how normal various things I’m feeling are.

When I wake up in the morning I always feel sick in my stomach and throat, and I always have a headache. I feel very dopey even after a good amount of sleep. I’m not pregnant, I’m very well hydrated, don’t drink a huge amount of caffeinated drinks that might contribute to these feelings. It’s like a mid-level hangover every day and it can last all morning. I’ve stopped drinking alcohol completely and for a while now and it’s made no difference. I need to get up motivated and ready for a busy day and I’m feeling pretty down about the constant sickness Sad

When you wake up, how do you feel?

I wonder if you have 2 things going on, do you have a C02 detector?
I know you have the window open but its a heavy gas and can hang around.

I've had times in the past when I'd feel awful in the mornings, and think it was down to an iron or zinc deficiency as I started taking a liquid supplement by Feroglobin and the fog cleared quickly, and now I feel so much better in the mornings.
Feroglobin contains liquid iron, zinc and B vitamins, and you can buy it from Boots/ Holland and Barrett etc. It's made a huge difference to me, and a couple of female friends I've recommended it to too.

This week, like shit, I have crohns and I'm flaring, I wake up at 3.30am everyday needed the toilet and with stomach cramps. I then can't get to sleep until about 5ish and up at 6 feeling like hell. Stomach complaints like inflammatory bowel disease is most active at night, IBS isn't! That's the difference between the two!

I’m 34 and over weight, I sleep quite poorly so always wake before my alarm feeling shattered but unable to get back to sleep 😴 I am trying to lose weight, when I was thinner I slep better and didn’t feel so knackered all the time

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 22/09/2018 14:17

Do you have a boiler, has it been serviced recently OP ?

DumptonPark · 22/09/2018 14:21

Reducing my sugar intake has stopped me feeling like death in the morning. I haven't cut it out completely, I still eat fruit and will have a very occasional sugar in a coffee, but I have cut out sweets, cakes and biscuits. It has made a phenomenal difference to my health.

AbeautifulBeast · 22/09/2018 15:35

DumptonPark I think this could be a factor with me! I virtually exist on sugar, not so much sweets etc but it seems it is in everything I eat anyway 🤨

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/09/2018 16:43

Thanks GVmama I’ll look into it.

Brand new boiler went in about a month ago so it’s not that.
Don’t really eat cakes, biscuits, choc etc, except if out and it’s offered or occasional chocolate when I’m PMSing. My diet is pretty healthy as they go.

Istherain... you might have low grade infection

I’ve got some infections and I feel awful
I’ve got a bowel problem going on as well

BumbleNova · 22/09/2018 17:08

Sounds exactly like me prior to my coeliac diagnosis, sorry OP. I used to feel sick and groggy all the time. Plus digestive issues.

On the upside, post diagnosis, it has been life changing. I can't tell you how much better I feel. I felt better very quickly too, literally days after cutting out the gluten.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/09/2018 17:27

BumbleNova Sad that’s my fear. I’ve had IBS on and off for years, but never had a Coeliac test. I’m hoping for lactose intolerance (well I’m not, but rather than coeliac)

Have something to eat and drink straight away. 😊

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/09/2018 17:29

Dowser the symptoms have been for at least 9 months, some of them for longer. The bowel problems have been on and off for years but consistently for the last 9 months. I’d be surprised if an infection lasted that long, but you never know?

OP posts:
IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/09/2018 17:30

PhilomenaButterfly I’ve been drinking a big bottle of water right away which doesn’t help. I’ve never wanted to eat first thing but might try and think of something that’s not off putting.

Honestly - I know its sounds horrendous and life changing and it is hard. 5 years on, I'm very used to it and we have got it down. We have a gluten free house and I know where it hides in food stuffs.
It's really not as hard as you fear, particularly now the world and his wife avoid gluten.

I feel incredibly well. My whole body has changed. I'm strong, my immune system functions as it should, my skin and hair is great. It is life changing feeling well - don't underestimate the difference it will make.

SlimmingMumOf1 · 22/09/2018 18:16

Shit, tbh. I never have any motivation to wake up. But I have to as I have a DS and work.

Dowser · 22/09/2018 18:22

I’m gluten free and lactose free
I can eat cheese and now and again a bit of gluten but heck im 66
MY big triggers are cream and ice cream so those I do avoid

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/09/2018 19:02

I was vegan for a few years, so I know I can live happily without dairy and still use dairy alternatives for many things. I’m sure I could adapt my cooking and eating to gluten free fairly easy, I’m a confident cook, the thing that worries me more is how easy cross contamination can happen. For example, I don’t eat meat, but I’m not hugely worried about BBQ tongs being used for my stuff and the meat stuff. I never minded picking the cheese out of something when I was vegan if absolutely necessary. The thought of having to worry about little bits out of my control seeping in is the scary idea. Even lactose intolerance doesn’t have that much risk in it, and it does less long term damage if you have some dairy, it just ruins a couple of days.

Plus my DP is T1 diabetic and his sister has pernicious anaemia, an autoimmune disorder from me as well and our future DCs are screwed! But I appreciate that’s a lot of worry for something at this stage. Still, fingers crossed it’s just regular old anaemia or something for the time being!

I'm fifty as soon as my eyes open I'm wide awake and raring to go just like I always have been. The only difference is I need to put my specs on to see the clock because I can't see it now at all.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/09/2018 19:51

fleshmarketclose I can’t see without my glasses either at 30! Glad some people wake up raring to go every day, maybe one day that’ll be me Smile

A couple of things occurred to me reading this as I have suffered from similar issues in the past.

It could be an intolerance / migraine related. I had to cut out alliums (onions) as I felt like I had a hangover. Every day. I am also lactose intolerant but I grit my teeth sometimes and have a cheese board because I love it so!

I also found going for an early morning run helped. I know that sounds counterintuitive but it really makes me feel better for the day. So long as I can drag myself out there...

I hope you get it sorted. I know how awful it feels Flowers

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/09/2018 20:10

Thanks Miss I hope it gets sorted to. I think I’d grit my teeth through the odd cheese board hangover if I had too, no onions would be a nightmare though, they’re in everything I cook!
I know some morning exercise would help but I’ve just felt so awful. I’m going to start trying to launch myself out of bed and getting moving though, willing to try anything at this stage.

OP posts:
MisstoMrs · 22/09/2018 20:59

@istherainevercomingback I felt the same about onions but it’s been manageable. I do the cooking at home so just miss it out. I don’t have it unless we eat out which is rare.

Let us know how the up and at ‘em goes. I do struggle but when I do manage it I feel so much better.

Good luck.

Thank you. Got one bloods and other tests next week so hopefully will get some answers soon
