How do you get glass shower doors to look clean?

I've only ever had a shower over the bath with curtain but now have an ensuite with glass doors round the shower. We live in a hard water area and the water marks are stubborn. I'm struggling to get the glass looking clean & it's driving me round the bend. What's the solution? Please help!

Viakal

formerbabe · 22/09/2018 08:51

Lidl timescale remover is great

Or sometimes I use plain vinegar on a sponge with bathroom cleaner

It's a bit of a thankless task though as it comes back so quickly.

HeyMacWey · 22/09/2018 08:51

Train everyone up in using a squeegee after every shower.

And viakil.

*limescale not timescale obviously!

TTC73 · 22/09/2018 08:52

Viakal is smelly useless crap. Try the cillit bang limescale and grime in the big bottle and work it on with a green sided scourer sponge and hose it off. Only thing that worked on our shower and taps the viakal just stank everything out and left the chrome stained with it Shock

Want2bSupermum · 22/09/2018 08:52

White vinegar in a spray bottle and dry your shower after you use it.

Littlemissdemeanour · 22/09/2018 08:52

Viakil, karcher window cleaner and a micro fibre cloth to finish!

StorminaBcup · 22/09/2018 08:53

Clean the glass with one of these every time you shower. It'll stop any build-up. Ikea sell them for 80p!

Once you have got the shower really clean, polish it with car polish. It takes a bit of time but once you do it, it repels the water and it lasts for ages.

coffeeforone · 22/09/2018 08:55

Definitely Viakal

RNBrie · 22/09/2018 08:57

I cleaned mine once with viakal and a scrubber and now spray it after every shower with Method shower/glass spray which repels the water. It's not perfect but it's better than the squeegee option and less time consuming than drying it after every shower!!

ShatnersBassoon · 22/09/2018 08:58

Magic erasers are the best. You know those sort of dense white foam things? A small amount of detergent and one of those work a treat.

evilharpy · 22/09/2018 09:01

I use viakal on ours when it gets a bit scaly around the edges. When you get it clean, buy a window vac and use it after every single shower and never have this problem again. We have very hard water and our shower screens are spotless.

I'm in a hard water area and was struggling to get the glass clean and the hardware shiny again. This week I used flash for soap scum on the glass and cif limescale for the taps, shower head etc and after a quick rub with the scourer and a rinse it's all gleaming!

dudsville · 22/09/2018 09:03

I'm also in a hard water area and I've tried a lot of things. I think you have to go through them to find what works for the materials and finish you're trying to clean. I tried the squeegee, rinsing soap scum of the glass walls after each shower, applying a car wax coat to clean walls, using vinegar (not in that order). In the end the thing that worked was a sainsbury's own brand bathroom cleaner. It needs to be done every 4 days but I only do it weekly. It took me ages to find what worked ane then a few clans to get it back to looking good. What I haven't worked out yet is what to use on the taps!

MagicWinkle · 22/09/2018 09:08

dudsville - coat taps in toothpaste, leave for couple of minutes while doing rest of bathroom. Rinse. Lovely shiny taps!

noenergy · 22/09/2018 09:14

Cillit bang is the best thing I could find

dudsville · 22/09/2018 09:35

I will try that!

Azzizam · 22/09/2018 09:37

Those Spongetex silver curly pot scourers remove linescale beautifully without scratching. I just use a mix of washing up liquid and water and one of those. They also remove limescale on marble.

KateAlexander · 22/09/2018 09:41

Use this stuff once a month. Spray it on and get it all over the glass with a sponge and rinse it off. It’s so so so good. Use it all over your sinks and taps as well - it’s a miracle.

Vinegar

Blanca123 · 22/09/2018 09:49

I use vinegar on mine and my mirrors and they always come out clear

Fadingmemory · 22/09/2018 09:54

Squeegee often & finish off by “polishing” with an ecloth.
