Viagogo ticket site

I heard something on the news about clamping down on ticket websites but I understand the issue now.

DD was very kenn to get tickets, being released today, for a gig she wanted to go to.They went on sale whilst she was at school so asked DS to try and get them for her, with DH’s credit card.Hmm

I came back from work to find that 2 tickets had cost £270! Shock
I found 2 tickets for under £70 on other sites. DS was concerned about the price but they were a Birthday present and he told me he’d been lucky to get them as, ‘there was a timer and lots of people looking at them and hardly any left’. DS has AS and is very literal though many people must be duped by these tactics. Angry

They are non-refundable though apparently I can sell them back on their site. Hmm

Does anyone know if they buy back at the same price? I assume the booking fee disappears and they charge the next punter the same fee?

SauvignonBlanche · 21/09/2018 22:16

Oh God - don’t say that’!! Shock

Viagogo won't buy them back, they are just the intermediary, but they won't charge fees on reselling tickets you bought through them.

You might get them, you might not. You might get in with them, you might not. But it is people like you that are funding these rip off sites.

TwitterQueen1 · 21/09/2018 22:23

You can sell them back but you will only get the face value ticket price, so if it's $69 (keyboard means pounds, not dollars) you will only get $138 back, plus a token fee. All the 'added extras' are how Viagogo makes its profit and you won't get this back.

I know because I stupidly bought tickets for Eric Clapton in Hyde Park via V and paid something stupid like 340 for two, and only got half that back when I couldn't go.

RebootYourEngine · 21/09/2018 22:23

Viagogo is a little like eBay in a way that it is other people selling the tickets rather than viagogo themselves.

Hope sites like these are closed down soon. I am sick and tired of not being able to get tickets because of touts.

SauvignonBlanche · 21/09/2018 22:23

I’m so confused, the website says you can sell tickets through them but they are just the intermediary then?
Do you then have to rely on people bidding for them? You can only sell for cost price, can’t you?

OP if they were bought through a credit card can you contact the bank and explain they've been bought in error. They might be able to cancel the transaction. I think you are covered on purchases over £100

SerenDippyEggs · 21/09/2018 22:27

People like her?! She's clearly said it wasn't her that bought them 🤦🏻‍♀️

OP, I have used this site before and got into the concert absolutely fine. If you don't get in you should be able to get your money back as they withhold the money from the seller until the date has passed of the concert, but obviously it's a long time to wait and will be upsetting for your DD if she is refused entry. Can I ask what concert it was for? Some acts are more likely to have more fake tickets sold than others

SerenDippyEggs · 21/09/2018 22:28

Oooh I just thought what about a charge back?! Could you do that??

SauvignonBlanche · 21/09/2018 22:30

I guess I’m better off waiting until they’ve actually sold out before trying to sell them at their current face value? Confused

OP posts:
Keel · 21/09/2018 22:30

SerenDippy Eggs Yes that's what I meant - a chargeback. Couldn't remember the term. OP needs to contact her bank to sort it.

3catsandcounting · 21/09/2018 22:31

OP - are the tickets for The 1975?

SauvignonBlanche · 21/09/2018 22:35

Thanks @SerenDippyEggs, I thought I’d made it quite clear that it was my autistic DS who had bought them whilst feeling stressed. The concert is The 1975

Oooh I just thought what about a charge back?! Could you do that??
What’s that? Confused

SauvignonBlanche · 21/09/2018 22:36

Yes @3catsandcounting.

Firstly, contact your bank and explain they were bought in error. IME banks are very good in these situations.

If no joy, you can put them back on Viagogo.
It’s not a bidding site, you set the amount.

Viagogo put on hefty charges. I’ve used them a few times and i’ve not had any problems getting the tickets.

Twickets are better to buy from and they are a face value site.

Put them straight back on at what you paid and try your luck. If they don’t sell straight away, you might have a better chance nearer the time of the gig.

Or just use the tickets.

ooforfoxsakeridesagain · 21/09/2018 22:40

Actually wait a second...

I bought two tickets on Eventim for this this morning. It was very clear that it was for fans, and the lead buyer would need photo id to get in.

Definitely worth perusing this with Viagogo in the first instance, and it might be they shouldn’t be selling them in the first place??

SauvignonBlanche · 21/09/2018 22:40

Oh dear, it gets worse, apparently it wasn’t DH’s credit card but his debit card. That’s worse, isn’t it, you can’t stop that, can you?

OP posts:
Ooforfoxsakeridesagain · 21/09/2018 22:42

The bank can reverse a payment I think.

But in this case, I’d demand Viagogo refund in full.

SauvignonBlanche · 21/09/2018 22:52

I wish DS had read this. He’s no idea what a numpty he’s been and I haven’t the heart to tell him.Sad

Usernom1234567890 · 21/09/2018 23:00

Viagogo won't refund you OP and neither will the bank or credit card company. Had a very similar situation and tried all that.
We were worried that the tickets would never arrive but they did. Great concert but paid twice the price through viagogo.

SauvignonBlanche · 22/09/2018 13:38

It just sounds worse and worse, some people can afford to pay silly money to get what they want and that will always be so but their tactics do prey on the vulnerable.
We certainly can’t afford to waste £200 Angry Sad

OP posts:
Ooforfoxsakeridesagain · 22/09/2018 13:38

Have you spoken to them yet?

Bombardier25966 · 22/09/2018 13:46

If your son is vulnerable as you claim, why did you give him a card and ask him to buy them? I'm not disputing what you're saying, but that's the first thing the bank will ask.

The transaction was authorised and there is no breach of contract. Your son appears to have capacity, he understood what he was doing - whether the tickets were good value or not is not relevant.

I can't see that you have any grounds for a chargeback.

SauvignonBlanche · 22/09/2018 13:47

I just tried phoning but it says that the helpline is only for queries about tickets for concerts within 72 hours and this one is in January.
Apparently I need to email, am just thinking about what to say (that’s not swear words).
