My daughter and her mooncup

My eldest has just got a menstrual cup. I am receiving hourly text updates about how it's going, in addition to regular run downs when she's at home.

She came in my bedroom and started dancing about saying what a weird sensation it was having something up there, and this morning announced that taking it out was a bit like giving birth. She thinks it's a bit weird to be having 'a rummage around' to get it out, but it's all a rather exciting adventure.

I don't use one, and in all honesty I'm not really sure she's selling the idea, but I've just had the sixth text today saying "My vagina is a bloody miracle vice. How's it keeping it in so well?" And I can't stop laughing.

@overagain and @floralbunting - thank you. I’ll try and woman up and give it a go!

DollyWilde · 21/09/2018 20:23

I find it weird that people can’t get their heads around the fact different families are different in their sharing!

JaneJeffer · 21/09/2018 20:27

Sharing with your family and sharing with the whole world are two different things!

Ohb0llocks · 21/09/2018 20:40

I sent my mum a photo of mine (before I used it obv). She thought it was something to do with baking 😂

GreenMeerkat · 21/09/2018 20:44

I want to try one when I'm no longer pregnant!

I hate pads but don't really get on with tampons so running out of options!

overagain · 21/09/2018 20:46

I never boiled mine, just a hot soap and water wash after and before each period. There's conflicting advice on the benefits of boiling them.

CutesyUserName · 21/09/2018 20:47

Sharing with your family and sharing with the whole world are two different things!

The whole world doesn't know who she is. Jeez.

JuneOsbourne · 21/09/2018 20:54

Hilarious that Floral is being accused of being a troll. Grin Some of these people really need to pop over to fwr once in a while!

I've recently started using a menstrual cup and it really is a very weird sensation. Glad you've got such a lovely relationship with your daughter. Hope today was a good day

JaneJeffer · 21/09/2018 20:56

The whole world doesn't know who she is. Jeez. Because perverts need all the details...

ThrowThoseCurtainsWide · 21/09/2018 20:58

I frigging love my menstural cup!!

DemocracyDiesInDarkness · 21/09/2018 21:01

I told my mum all about my mooncup, I was so thrilled with it! Grin

FloralBunting · 21/09/2018 21:02

Yes, perverts will no doubt hunt down the Bunting household because I shared something silly about my daughter's response to innovative San pro.Hmm

I'm talking about reading it on here but if you don't care then I don't either.

FloralBunting · 21/09/2018 21:04

Jolly good. That's sorted then.

buckeejit · 21/09/2018 21:05

Glad it's going well. I bought one 8 years ago & couldn't get on with it. I now mostly use reusable pads though which are better than disposable. I wish more children would be as open with their parents. Happy mooncupping! Wine

buckeejit · 21/09/2018 21:06

Haha, just realised as I posted-I'm drinking a glass of wine-didn't mean the emoji to represent a mooncup! 😂

HerondaleDucks · 21/09/2018 21:07

Definitely the sort of thing I'd talk to my mum about. We talk about everything lol we talk about sex, periods, life, the universe. I think it's very sad when a daughter can't talk about natural things comfortably with a safe person like their mum. That being said my dsd comes to talk to me about these things and erm so do half of her friends. I said I'm the local period guru. Grin

NotUmbongoUnchained · 21/09/2018 21:07

Why does it matter if a perv reads something posted by an anonymous person on the internet? How does that effect the OP’s daughter in anyway?

FloralBunting · 21/09/2018 21:11

Lol @ wine glass as mooncup. Actually, I was interested to see the info about different sizes. I hadn't looked into it that deeply beyond reading threads like this on MN years ago so I confess I was a bit ? about the fitting and that sort of thing.

museumum · 21/09/2018 21:13

Awww. I remember being giddy with amazement when I first got one. They feel amazing!!!! I never realised tampons were uncomfortable until I tried a mooncup.

Don’t get periods now due to Mirena but almost wish I did just to use my mooncup.

ThankyouwitharecaptalR · 21/09/2018 21:14

Love my mooncup and have had similar conversations with my mum and sister. Your daughter sounds ace!

anitagreen · 21/09/2018 21:44

Why do some people think this is a troll post? When I was a teen this is exactly the type of stuff I'd do and say my immediate family always overshares. It's just our family dynamics. She sounds hilarious Op

Jeippinghmip · 21/09/2018 22:00

I wish I’d had a mum I could talk to like this. My mum was so uptight about bodies and sex, I have no idea how she managed to have sex with my dad and produce us.

Lellochip · 22/09/2018 08:26

Aww I'm jealous of everyone who loves theirs, I couldn't get on with them at all

BetterEatCheese · 22/09/2018 08:32

Ha ha that's brilliant! Good on you and her for the open honesty in your relationship.
