My daughter and her mooncup

FloralBunting · 21/09/2018 14:46

My eldest has just got a menstrual cup. I am receiving hourly text updates about how it's going, in addition to regular run downs when she's at home.

She came in my bedroom and started dancing about saying what a weird sensation it was having something up there, and this morning announced that taking it out was a bit like giving birth. She thinks it's a bit weird to be having 'a rummage around' to get it out, but it's all a rather exciting adventure.

I don't use one, and in all honesty I'm not really sure she's selling the idea, but I've just had the sixth text today saying "My vagina is a bloody miracle vice. How's it keeping it in so well?" And I can't stop laughing.

I love my menstrual cup!! Little tip though - if boiling it to sterilise, don't fall asleep in front of the telly and forget it. Lost a good cup and a saucepan that way and house stank of burning rubber for days, which was hard to explain to visitors Grin

OrchidInTheSun · 21/09/2018 18:15

Oh no! Women talking about periods. How awful Hmm

I'm so glad she's thrilled with it Floral. I was quite excited when I got mine at first and I was late 30s!

WinnerWinnerChickenDinner0 · 21/09/2018 18:24

Well done op

You have a beautiful relationship with your dd and you have raised her with a very healthy relationship with her own body

Ignore all the pearl clutchers and enjoy the laughs

FloralBunting · 21/09/2018 18:41

Tbh, DD is currently reading and pissing herself laughing at our relationship being so unbelievable to some MNers.

And I quote "Do these people not talk to their kids? We're just like you but younger."

Ah well, being suspected of being a mooncup troll is a interesting experience.

There have been some dodgy posts on here recently OP that focus on teenage girls and their sex lives, so a thread to invite people to discuss teenage girls' periods and the 'sensation' of the mooncup inside them could be viewed with suspicion.

I'm sure that never crossed your mind but I can see why people are concerned.

Sparklingbrook · 21/09/2018 18:49

Do these people not talk to their kids?

Every single day.

Justkeeprollingalong · 21/09/2018 18:54

Sounds like my youngest daughter, I often think she overshares with me 🤦🏻‍♀️
Not really, it's great that she can tell me anything. I'm quite new to Mumsnet; why are some people reporting this thread?

Justkeeprollingalong · 21/09/2018 18:56

Oh, just seem @SouthernComforts post. Seems overly suspicious 😒

FloralBunting · 21/09/2018 18:58

Nope, never crossed my mind, which is probably naive as I hail from the Feminism section of MN which are fairly often troubled with trollage.

If I was a troll, I'm a pretty boring one, tbh.

"My daughter tried a mooncup, loved it and said some daft things."

Just to confirm, regular poster, not a creepy sex troll. Glad I've missed whatever has caused suspicion, though.

I have boys so no discussions about moon ups. However, my 11 year old DS has named his burgeoning pubic hairs and talks to me regularly and extensively about their progress.

It’s like living with some sort of Percy Thrower / Adrian Mole hybrid.

Sparklingbrook · 21/09/2018 19:13

Blimey my two DSs talk to me about music and what's going on at school etc. Where did I go wrong?

FloralBunting · 21/09/2018 19:17

If it's any comfort, my DS just likes asking me variations on the question "What's your favourite superhero/Jedi/Sith?"

OP posts:
BellMcEnd · 21/09/2018 19:30

To be fair, sparkling I also get a lot of tedious shite about fortnite and football as well

BlancheM · 21/09/2018 19:35

Can't say I've ever spoken to my mum about vaginal sensations and I can't say she would broadcast it if I did so I guess I'm just a very uptight pearl clutcher eh Hmm

SweatyFretty · 21/09/2018 19:36

That's the kind of shit I've always said to my mum, in the OP's defence.

CutesyUserName · 21/09/2018 19:41

Bloody hell, there are some saddos on here.

This sounds like the sort of conversation I'd have with my daughter (probably in the next week or two when she tries one for the first time on her next period), but then we talk about most things.

Glad she's getting on with it (but also glad I'm past all that)!

NotUmbongoUnchained · 21/09/2018 19:45

My mooncup was the least romantic present I’ve ever received from my husband Grin

FloralBunting · 21/09/2018 19:47

I'm shaking my head really. I mean yes, a pp mentioned there have been some troll threads, which obviously isn't nice, but given that I have a credible posting history which you can search for yourself, and I am clearly not doing any escalating drip feeding or attempting to wheedle creepy info out of anyone, at this stage would it be possible for people to drop the disbelieving "Doesn't sound like a conversation I'd have with my daughter" stuff?

I just posted it because I thought MN would find it as funny as we did, in all our innocence.

OP posts:
ilovechurros · 21/09/2018 19:48

God, some people on here are so miserable.

OP - I’m thinking of trying a mooncup. Can you ask your daughter how tricky it is to get into position when you first use it. I sometimes find even tampons awkward so I’m wondering if a mooncup is just pointless for me.

overagain · 21/09/2018 19:51

@ilovechurros took a few tries for me but once I found 'the spot' it was much more comfortable than a tampon. And non of that dry tampon at the end of your period ouch either.

FloralBunting · 21/09/2018 19:52

ilovechurros, she said it was weird at first - like using a non applicator tampon, and was a bit tricky to get in place, but she thinks that's just going to be a practice thing. She's fairly sure she didn't get it right at first which is why it felt odd. It seemed to settle into a better position over night because she couldn't feel it the same way when she woke up in the morning.

PhilomenaButterfly · 21/09/2018 19:55

Sparkling 😂 I can't fucking wait! 😂

Livinglavidal0ca · 21/09/2018 19:56

I'm 21, this is the exact conversation I'd have with my mum, along with my teen sister! We'd probably be in much greater detail though! Some families do talk to one another about these things Grin I really want one!

PhilomenaButterfly · 21/09/2018 19:59

DM overshares about her colostomy bag.

ElfrideSwancourt · 21/09/2018 20:04

My DD and I have discussions like this all time and yes it made me laugh OP!

She's at uni and her tales of trying to boil it every month to clean it without everyone in her flat seeing it are v funny.

I've got her some Milton so she can soak it instead this year Smile
