Or cathedral and light a candle for someone? Or two people actually.

I feel like i/they need help. Or guidance. Or something that will watch over them and me.

I would like to have some faith but I'm a bit cross at the minute and my belief has been rocked.

I'd still quite like someone to look out for Ds tomorrow.

I'm struggling a bit tonight.

Not all churches will have candles to light. Big old fashioned ones are most likely to have them.

What’s going on? Might it help to share?

mineofuselessinformation · 20/09/2018 23:02

Yes, of course you can. Just remember to follow the dress codes of that particular faith. I hope it brings you some comfort. Thanks

GLASGOWGIRL82 · 20/09/2018 23:03

You can go to a Spiritualist church and put their names in the healing book

If they have candles to light yes you are welcome to light them in any church. Not all churches are open over night though. Ours is locked at dusk I think.

Tiggles · 20/09/2018 23:03

A Cathedral yes, although some might charge you entry.
More and more Anglican churches are left open and often have space for lighting candles. Or some have a keyholder on their webpage who lives locally and would let you in.
Would you like me to light candles and pray for you tomorrow in my church?

educatingarti · 20/09/2018 23:04

All cathedrals are likely to have candles you can light, but not every church uses the candle as a symbol for prayer in that way.

Teaandbiscuits35 · 20/09/2018 23:05

Yes, you can. I hope it brings you comfort and your dc is looked after x

safariboot · 20/09/2018 23:06

Anglican cathedrals and other churches that attract tourists normally have this. Smaller parish churches might not, and indeed probably aren't open much outside services.

DancingDot · 20/09/2018 23:07

Catholic churches will usually always have candles to light. Take some change to buy one - usually £1.

LivininaBox · 20/09/2018 23:08

A Roman Catholic church is likely to have candles to light. Some churches gave a book in which you can write people you would like the church to pray for. And of course you could just light a candle in your own home.

BackforGood · 20/09/2018 23:12

If the church is open, and if the Church has candles, then yes, you can, but sadly most Churches have to be locked a lot of the time.
Plus, not all denominations have candles to light.

inquiquotiokixul · 20/09/2018 23:14

Any cathedral definitely.
Non-cathedral CofE churches won't always but if it's a bit "touristy" or if it's reasonably traditional rather than modern in style then there should be candles.

Babdoc · 20/09/2018 23:17

Why not just ask the minister or vicar at your local church for a pastoral visit? They can discuss your worries and pray with you.

moredoll · 20/09/2018 23:18

Yes.
Any Catholic church and, as far as I can see, not being a member of that faith, most Church of England will have candles. There will be a collection box somewhere for the money which varies from 20p upwards.
But your prayers will be heard at any time in any place.
In times of desperation St. Jude is a great harbour.

It would be tomorrow now. It's for my brother who died very recently and I'm missing a lot today (mybirthday) and Ds who is sitting a deferred exam over the weekend.

Due to dbro sudden and v untimely passing we are all struggling so much. Ds especially as they were both so close. And now he has the biggest event of his life so far. Poor lamb.

A cathedral (with a very tall spire) is the nearest place I can get to to our family church and so I thought about going there in the morning.

The timings of this are all wrong. For the two most important men in my life Sad

I feel so helpless.

Catholic Churches always have candles to light.
However, round here churches are sadly not left open, but you could knock on the presbytery and someone will hopefully be around to unlock the church for you.

Or services are daily, so you could go in before/after the service.

dontblameme · 20/09/2018 23:27

I agree you can pray any time any place and it'll be heard, but there is something very special about lighting a candle in church. I love that about French churches, have lit many a candle there. We can certainly pray for you if you'd like?

Tiggles · 20/09/2018 23:28

Bless you
The Cathedral should have the right facilities and hopefully a volunteer there who might be able to talk to you if you need some company too.

Kelvingrove · 20/09/2018 23:32

I will light a candle for you and your family.

victoriaspongecake · 20/09/2018 23:33

Hi sorry for your loss and what you are going through.
On a slightly different note was there a plant or flower or tree that your brother liked or that meant something to him?
If so habe a look at planting one in your garden so that every time you look at it you think of him and can say a little prayer for him.
Warmest wishes to you

moredoll · 20/09/2018 23:51

I am so sorry for your loss, and will light candles for your brother and son tomorrow.
Peace be with you.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 20/09/2018 23:56

I can light one tomorrow as well. Stay strong Flowers

Dumbledoresgirl · 20/09/2018 23:56

You do not need to pay to enter any cathedral. Say you are there to pray and they will let you in.

BitOutOfPractice · 21/09/2018 00:13

Oh op I am so sorry for your sad loss Flowers

I wish your dc the very best tomorrow.
