With 1kg of good quality beef mince, how many adult portions would you expect to get?

I'm feeling disappointed with my batch cooking efforts.

500g mice would give us 4 portions for dinner and another 2 for later in the week.
Only ever add carrot and onion though.

maggienolia · 21/09/2018 13:13

Mince , that should read.
I do not cook mice.

WTF are people calling bolognaise?

charliebear78 · 21/09/2018 13:40

I have a Italian book which uses Double cream and chicken livers in the Bolognaise Sauce-It is the nicest Spag Bol we have ever had!!!

00100001 · 21/09/2018 13:43

Probably about 10, the pasta is the 'biggest' component. We stir the meat sauce into the pasta, rather than dumping a whole load of meat sauce on top.

Why do people on MN add lentils to bolognese? I love lentils - but with mince? Isn't it too sludgey?

mooglycrunch · 21/09/2018 14:01

I decided to go authentic and use chicken livers once.

Unfortunately I misread the quantities and instead of 100g I used 1,000g.

I basically made pate Bolognese. It was as disgusting as it sounds.

The house smelt hellish for about a week :(

ThanksItHasPockets · 21/09/2018 14:18

Holy fuck, moogly. A KILO of liver?!

SoyDora · 21/09/2018 14:21

The thought of a kilo of liver in a bolognese has made me feel queasy Envy

MrsJayy · 21/09/2018 14:27

Jeezo Pate bolognaise Envy

delphguelph · 21/09/2018 14:27

Aren't you supposed to put cream in bolognaise?

delphguelph · 21/09/2018 14:28

A kilo of liver?

What did Dr. Lecter say about that?

FelicisWolf · 21/09/2018 14:29

I had never heard of putting lentils in a bolognese before this thread!! Is this a normal thing people do?!

midsomermurderess · 21/09/2018 14:30

This serves 4 and is lovely. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2010/nov/25/how-to-make-perfect-bolognese

MrsJayy · 21/09/2018 14:32

According to some poncey Italian chef youcan add cream but he is the same man who suggested chickenlivers so you know

Andtheresaw · 21/09/2018 14:33

I'd get 12-16 portions out of a kg of mince but I suspect this is because I use the sauce to dress the pasta rather than serving it in the middle?
A couple of ladles of bolognaise can dress a family sized pan of pasta.

SoyDora · 21/09/2018 14:34

I prefer more meat/sauce and less pasta so get less portions out of it than I could otherwise.
Too much pasta makes me bloated.

midsomermurderess · 21/09/2018 14:39

Oh and use tagliatelle, not spaghetti.

PhilomenaButterfly · 21/09/2018 14:40

6 here.

delphguelph · 21/09/2018 14:53

I'm low carbing so I just have the sauce

SchadenfreudePersonified · 21/09/2018 14:57

Celery can fuck off, stinky fucker.

Damn right!
Get thee behind me, celery.
And you can take those bastarding parsnips with you.

PrimalLass · 21/09/2018 15:21

Celery is horrid raw but it makes bolognese taste so much better.
