High Chair Recommendations

Leeds2 · 19/09/2018 18:30

I am going to offer to buy a high chair for a family baby due to be born very soon.
My plan is to let the new mum choose the one she wants when she is ready, but does anyone have any recommendations? I want to sound like I know what I am talking about when discussing it with her!

IKEA Antilop. The most simple and brilliant highchair

kaytee87 · 19/09/2018 18:40

Something that's very easy to wipe clean!

She won't need it til the baby is about 6 months though so you've plenty time.

PastramiAndRye · 19/09/2018 18:41

What @IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece said. It's great.

IKEA antilop or stokke trip trap. There are no others worth mentioning. Need it to be wipe clean.

Marmite27 · 19/09/2018 18:45

Ikea antilop. Hands down.

QforCucumber · 19/09/2018 18:46

Ikea! We sold our £70 mamas and papas one in favour of the ikea one!

Sabulous · 19/09/2018 18:46

I second the IKEA one or the stokke Tripp trapp. We had the stokke for our first, and we loved it. But she wanted to be in a regular chair as soon as she was big enough. We have the IKEA one for our second.

The Ikea highchair is hands down the best. But it’s super cheap so if you’re planning on buying the new parents a big gift then you might want to rethink... or get them something else as well!

unicornchaser · 19/09/2018 18:48

I was going to get the Ikea one mentioned by pp as have heard great things about it and it is a great cheap option! but got given a hauck Alpha + which is similar to the stokke Tripp trapp. My sister had that one for my niece after trying different ones for her previous kids and she said this was the best one as it can be used at all stages as the child grows

SleepyMcEdie · 19/09/2018 18:50

Ikea Antilop

FromThe80s · 19/09/2018 18:51

Another vote for Ikea one - I spent a lot on a high chair but the Ikea one just as good (if not better!)

barleyreed · 19/09/2018 18:53

Ikea again! So great, I love restaurants that use them as I know LO will be comfy! Such a bargain too :)

thismeansnothing · 19/09/2018 18:55

IKEA antilop

Compact, no stitching or crevices for food to be mushed into. Easy to clean. Cheap too.

The fact that nearly every eaterie has them speaks volumes

Skylucy · 19/09/2018 18:57

We have the Stokke Tripp Trapp (great with the newborn attachment for tiny babes, and great as a chair for bigger kiddies), and the famous IKEA Antilop for the inbetween stage. To note, there's a HUGE variance in price for each of these brilliant chairs!

NannyR · 19/09/2018 19:01

Antilop, no contest! I've worked for many families who started off with padded, reclining, packed with features, expensive highchairs and swapped them for antilops a few months later.
Stokke Tripp trapps are good too, more expensive but a good long term investment, I know of several 12/13 year olds still using them as desk chairs. I don't find them as easy to clean as the antilop though.

antipodes1 · 19/09/2018 19:24

Babylo Eatin' Mess Highchair from smyths. It's a rip off of the ikea antelop

Dermymc · 19/09/2018 19:25

The antilops legs are annoying if you don't have much space. However the chicco one that straps to a chair is ace.

Leeds2 · 19/09/2018 19:43

Thank you! This has given me something to think about!

Any other suggestions for "big" things, by which I mean items that the parents will need but struggle to afford? Not a pram, or cot, because I know they have these already.

IKEA antelop every time
Best high chair ever
Easy, safe, great to clean (in the dishwasher!), transportable.

linkylink · 19/09/2018 19:45

We have 2 stokke trip traps & find them fab. Both Grannies have the Ikea one.

kaytee87 · 19/09/2018 19:46

@Leeds2 gro bags are quite expensive but I've found them amazing. Still use them for my 2yo. Just make sure you research the right tog for the right time of year.
2.5 tog can generally be used most the year except warm summer 1.5 tog or cold winter 3.5 tog - unless they have a very warm or cold house obviously.

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 19/09/2018 19:49

Ikea Antilop. We had two other much more expensive chairs and we gave them away in favour of the Antilop. Easy to clean, can be easily transported, don't take up too much space. Weaning is a messy time and I can't tell you how painful it was cleaning some highchairs.

ThanksItHasPockets · 19/09/2018 19:51

A bouncer or rocker chair for the living room. The baby Bjorn one is very good.

BlessedbetheFruitLoops2 · 19/09/2018 19:52

A travel cot would be a great bigger present that the family won't realise they need until the day they really need it!
