Driving test number 4 tomorrow should I just cancel.

4th attempt tomorrow and just been out for a last run with DH and aqua plained scared the hell out of me! I'm not doubting my ability and just thinking shall I give up! It's costing me a fortune in tests and lessons and I'm stressing over it once again! Worst part is I can drive but on a test you would think Iv never even seen a car never mind drive one!

Anyone got any tips or basically a kick up the back side for me ??

I passed on my fourth attempt. Stop thinking you are being tested and focus on giving a really safe, responsible drive. If you make a silly mistake because of nerves you will want to kick yourself. Tests are to see if you are safe on the road and you can pass while still no way near perfection. Good luck. You know you can do it. If not, you are still able to do it again so just put in for it immediately.

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 19/09/2018 01:59

Dont cancel. It took me 5 attempts sometimes i failed for reasons that were barely reasons. The day before my 5th i was in a small accident. I felt like you and i passed

adaisychain · 19/09/2018 06:10

I passed last month on my 8th attempt,
my lesson before my test was dreadful, I almost did a no-show on the back of it....

Take it slow on your test,
take a moment when they get you to pull in on the left/right to take a deep breath and ground yourself before you pull off and remember they are a lot more lenient that you might expect. I thought I had failed a couple of times during my test and ended up with just two minors.

At this stage, you lose your money either way, whether you cancel or just grit your teeth and go for it, so you really have nothing to lose.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone,

Me and DH had a row last night this has happened before every test I think he stresses more than me so that's taking my mind of it a little, and I definitely don't feel as nervous this time, I think it's because I don't know where they are taking me when I'm on a test and get anxiety over that rather than being tested of that makes sense ?

I'm going to go for it and do my best take my time and Iv put a banana and some painkillers in my work bag as advised.

It's just if I fail I'm going to have to wait a while this time to rebook because the driving jar is empty so maybe I feel pressure off that.

Good luck op I passed on my 4th attempt I’ll keep 🤞for you

MinecraftHolmes · 19/09/2018 07:10

This might sound insane but if you get a chance on your break at work watch a bit of a YouTube video of someone doing a mock test - they really helped me get things into perspective because they show you exactly what get counted as faults/and that you don’t have to be perfect.

You’ve already got your DH and your instructor thinking you’re safe to drive - you’re just showing one more person today Smile

Peanutbuttershake · 19/09/2018 07:14

Best of luck today! You have nothing to lose so go in there remembering that. You're really brave for keeping at it and just know that you will get there, whether it's today or another day.

tessiegirl · 19/09/2018 12:40

Best of luck today op

Nutellaoffaspoon · 19/09/2018 12:56

Good luck Smile

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 19/09/2018 13:27

Good luck!

Esme3 · 19/09/2018 13:30

Good luck OP!

safariboot · 19/09/2018 13:32

Just try and think of it as another lesson, just the person in the passenger seat is a lit less chatty than usual.

And you're not unreasonable to be rattled after aquaplaning. Check (or get someone else to check) the tyre treads on the car that did it.

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 19/09/2018 13:32

Good luck op.

Justanotheruser01 · 19/09/2018 13:39

How did it go op??
Agree with pp i did that too its just a lesson with somebody else and i passed first time

paranoiamumma · 19/09/2018 13:43

I failed twice and my new instructor said to me that we will pull over b4 the test and I was to eat a mars bar , then we can head to the centre coincidence or not I passed ,( although I had a really chatty examiner too )

HolyFuckNuggets · 19/09/2018 14:24

I've failed 4 times and am waiting to book my 5th test as the driving fund is also empty on my end!! I have the exact same fear as you on the test, it's the not knowing where I am going which stresses me out more than anything else and I think that's what throws me.

Good luck today, I hope you pass but if not, don't give up now, you have spent so much money already it's madness to waste it (and that's me talking to myself as well!)

ImSoExhausted · 19/09/2018 14:32

@HolyFuckNuggets have a look on YouTube at your local test centre routes. One of my local driving schools drove round all of them and filmed it. I watched every single route so when it came to my test day, I was fairly confident that whatever way he told me to turn, I'd have a good idea of where I'd be going when following the sat nav!

FoofFighter · 19/09/2018 14:37

Hope it goes well Op! Thanks

HolyFuckNuggets · 19/09/2018 14:43

@ImSoExhausted that's a great idea. I do know a few of the routes but I am terrified they'll take me into the town centre one and I've only practised that one twice. I usually book the slot right before their lunch as my instructor said they never do the town centre route at that time because of traffic so fingers crossed that's true (which it has been on 2 of my tests) as I know most of the route of the area they stay in. I've also recently bought a cheap car to practice in but DP has been working a lot so I haven't had the chance to get out as much as I'd like but I think that will help my nerves on my next test.

foxyfemke · 19/09/2018 14:56

Hope you passed! I passed on my 4th attempt, 7 years ago today (according to my FB memories!). I needed beta blockers to help me with test nerves though.

pinkmagic1 · 19/09/2018 14:59

I past fourth time. Good luck.

BifsWif · 19/09/2018 15:54

Fifth time for me - do not give up!

Good luck Flowers

wrenika · 19/09/2018 17:54

If you're aquaplaning I'd say you're not fit to drive alone yet anyway. Yes, it could happen to anyone in a moment of stupidity or carelessness, but it doesn't show safe driving techniques.
Keep persevering with the lessons. It's not a simple skill for everyone but it's a valuable life tool - you'll get there!

BifsWif · 19/09/2018 19:02

Are you a driving instructor Wrenika?

teacuptale · 19/09/2018 19:09

I passed after a number of attempts. In the end, I did the test with the attitude of ‘I don’t care what you think, I’ll drive how I see fit’... and I passed. Good luck.
