What would you change to make it (almost) perfect in an ideal world?

I’d take out:

Photocoping/Scanning
Trying to arrange meetings between umpteen unavailable people
Encrypted emails
Codes for doors, dinner cards, photocopiers
Completely unnecessary meetings

Crap management

Largepiecesofcrookedwood · 18/09/2018 19:37

Uncomfortable chairs
Cold AC

Heatherjayne1972 · 18/09/2018 19:43

More time and an assistant

FunnysInLaJardin · 18/09/2018 19:45

decent benefits eg a pension, income insurance, critical illness cover and proper health insurance. Just realising how important these things are!

ZootSuit · 18/09/2018 19:46

Ha your job sounds like mine! “Can you just schedule a meeting between the worlds 4 busiest people, one of them is in the US and one is in China. Thanks!” 😫

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 18/09/2018 19:53

Commuting?! I like the job but the commute, not so much.

Giggorata · 18/09/2018 20:01

Less corporate bollocks,
Fewer meetings,
Less weird non-informative titles,
Less hierarchy,
Less extreme political correctness
Less jargon
Less nonsensical business speak
Less asinine flavour of the month business practices
Fewer jobsworths
Fewer total twats

More resources
More admin
More listening
More flexibility
More acknowledgement

Better salary
Better conditions
Better IT
Better car parking
Better management
Better systems

That felt good. 😶

BumbleeBeeMe · 18/09/2018 20:27

More money for sure.
Also agree with setting meetings !!

Numbkinnuts · 18/09/2018 20:29

More resources

Less dealing with the public ( which is a bit impossible 😁)

FruitCider · 18/09/2018 20:38

Rats
Cockroaches
Broken toilet seat
Fires

strawberrisc · 19/09/2018 06:19

@FruitCider 🤣🤣🤣

@ZootSuit Exactly!

Higher funding payments so I don’t have to ask for top ups
Less paperwork
No inspections
Less moany parents

FruitCider · 19/09/2018 06:28

strawberrisc sadly I wish I was joking! The reality is most don't realise just how dire some people's work places are. 😉

SocksRock · 19/09/2018 06:30

Less politics. But I work for the local authority, so prob not going to happen

fishfingersandketchup · 19/09/2018 06:36

Ofsted!

parrotonmyshoulder · 19/09/2018 06:53

Other people.

frenchfancy · 19/09/2018 06:58

More money. The pay is crap but other than that my job is almost perfect.

strawberrisc · 19/09/2018 07:31

@Fruitcider. I really did think you were joking 😮

@fishfingersandketchup I second that. A totally unreal experience that reflects nothing.

My line manager. Loved my job until about 10 months ago, he’s utterly ruined it. I’m now looking elsewhere after 14 years.

DonnaDarko · 19/09/2018 07:35

My manager. I feel like she doesn't trust me as she is constantly micro managing me. I have not been with this company long, but I have 8 years experience in the industry, leave me alone!

Ah!

strawberrisc · 19/09/2018 07:37

@BikeRunSki please don’t! I was in exactly the same position to the point that she made me ill...but then she retired. I was so glad for hanging on in. It would have been awful to have left and then find out she’d left. I believe she’s since disappeared up her own arse.

OP posts:
BikeRunSki · 19/09/2018 07:51

strawberrisc this guy isn’t retiring or leaving anytime soon. He is younger than me, has been with the organisation longer than me, and has only just got the job permanently. The only thing that got me through the summer was knowing he was on a secondment and might not get the job permanently after a big recruitment.

I am looking internally, it’s a massive organisation. You know, after 14 years maybe it’s time for a change.

SockQueen · 19/09/2018 08:00

The commute, and the start time. Sadly I have no control over either.

greendale17 · 19/09/2018 08:06

Better salary

EssentialHummus · 19/09/2018 08:06

Slightly more money (and more readily available/flexible childcare, I guess). I'm self-employed, so I've broadly set things up in the way that works best for me, but am not very good at knowing what to charge.
