No, they're not. They're pointing out to the seller that the coins can't be worth any less than their monetary value. They have a face value of £2 so are worth at least that, regardless if collectability.*

Oh right so those comerative £2 and £5 coins are worth £2 and £5 are they? Nooooo their worth didly squot in monatary value. This is how the seller is seeing these 50p coins. Shes selling them as collector. She doesnt understand why some one is trying to to tell her their 50p she doesnt think their for spending there fore arent worth anything in monety value.

HPLikecraft · 18/09/2018 08:58

Commemorative coins are actually legal tender, but not "circulating legal tender" meaning they may - may - not used to buy things in shops. They do have a monetary value, however, because they are 'worth' something.

That is by the by, however, as the seller here isn't selling commemorative coins, but special edition 50p coins which are normal circulating legal tender, and can't quite grasp that 4 of them equate to £2

RustyBear · 18/09/2018 08:59

Actually, according to the Royal Mint, commemorative coins are legal tender, and can be exchanged for goods and services at some post offices.

As someone with Dyscalculia I would totally do this. In fact it took me a minute to work out what you were laughing at but once someone had explained I’d think it was bloody hilarious because it is Grin

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 18/09/2018 09:23

That is by the by, however, as the seller here isn't selling commemorative coins,

But its not because she thinks she is!!! Thats the thing, thats why she doesnt understand what the person is saying, she thunks the peter rabbit collection was a comerative collection and only has value as a collection what do you not understand about that.

Can we all laugh at you for not understanding she thinks shes selling something that doesnt have any monetray value other than as a collectable item

HPLikecraft · 18/09/2018 09:26

Er, I do understand it. Confused

But she's wrong, and refuses to listen to anyone who tells her otherwise.

SquishySquirmy · 18/09/2018 09:29

I want to assume that what she means isn't how it reads to everyone else; that she wants to sell them for £1 each in a bundle, so a total of £4 for the four coins.

I collect those coins, and don't have the Jeremy Fisher or Tom Kitten.... Wish she was on my selling group!

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 18/09/2018 09:52

refuses to listen to anyone who tells her otherwise.

Like your refusing to listen to anyone who is explaining her pount of view.

Yes shes wrong, but thats whats by the by, its not the way she persevies it.

I said the whatever hun was funny, but neither side is showing any common sence.

Yes she could have said i know but im not selling them for moneatry value im selling them as the peter rabbit collection and im happy to accept less

But equally it could have been just a warning most people wont see these as a collection and see them as legal tender and therefore are worth at exactly 50p regardless of wether theirs double peter rabbits or not. Most people wont look at the design

Well, I'm glad I saw this thread because I had no idea there were Beatrix Potter coins in circulation and if I'd spotted one for the first time out in public I'd probably have embarrassed myself with a squee or suchlike.Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 18/09/2018 17:57

I blame contactless cards... both for my ignorance of current coinage, and the confused seller having forgotten the actual purpose of coins.

SquishySquirmy · 19/09/2018 09:17

Think The Mirror has recycled this into an "article" ...

Wauden · 21/09/2018 13:32

Probably best to not laugh at rabbit coin lady if she is confused.

Synecdoche · 21/09/2018 13:38

Scarily I can see myself becoming rabbit coin lady one day....
