Girlguiding Rainbows? How much?

If you're child goes to Rainbows how much does it cost you per week or term?

It varies in my area but local one is charging 3x £30 just wondering if this is the norm Smile

My kids are in scouting.

Beavers - £6.50 a month year round - £78 a year.

Scouts - £10 a month from October to June - £90 a year.

Thanks @Heismyopendoor

Most groups will charge termly, as if if you don't attend that week, they still have their overheads, eg hall rental, Girlguiding membership.

30 a term sounds like a bargain when you factor in hall rental, craft materials, badges, leader training, other resources for activities, etc etc.

Check whether it includes the annual membership subscription due in Feb each year, usually 20-30 pounds per girl (varies by area), some group budget this out of termly fees, others ask for it separately.

If you compare to other activities, Guiding and Scouting is excellent value generally

Again I can only tell you about cubs & scouts - I pay £40 per term for DS

Thanks all Smile

I pay £20 per term for Rainbows, but we seem to have 4 terms, so £80 a year. Scouting was more, but they did a lot more with them.

Preparefortroublemakeitdouble · 17/09/2018 09:45

My daughter is starting rainbows today. I was told it was £35 per term

Andtheresaw · 17/09/2018 09:45

I run Brownies and we charge £35 per term which includes the annual subscription charge to girlguiding (which is about one term's subs).
Our local Guides charges £30 but pays less rent.

There is another thread running currently from the Guiding leaders talking about the changes to the new programme and how much more expensive it is which might provide some insight

HarrietBasset · 17/09/2018 09:55

£36 a term here for Rainbows

IMissGin · 17/09/2018 09:57

£20 a term here so £80 a year

Beamur · 17/09/2018 10:00

Guides £10 a month (£120 a year) but this includes activities, trips out. Camps cost extra.

Rockbird · 17/09/2018 10:07

Brownies £30 per term here. Occasionally if they're doing something like pottery painting at one of those shops they'll ask for a fiver donation. It's great value.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 17/09/2018 10:09

Blimey that's expensive now! I'm sure it was 50p a week when I went 😂

BookWitch · 17/09/2018 10:17

It was 20p a week when I was in Brownies in the 1970s.

But my mum and dad bought a new house for 6K back then as well.

I know you are joking @AccidentallyRunToWindsor , but when GG leaders are working hard to keep the costs affordable for families, comments like yours grate on me.
It's not like we are making a profit like the dance, drama, activities that no one ever seems to mind paying.

BookWitch · 17/09/2018 10:18

Sorry, ignore me, I'm being grumpy

Andtheresaw · 17/09/2018 12:17

@AccidentallyRunToWindsor

Presuming a 38 week year, it would have £19 a year when you went. £100 a year on average now. Has it kept pace with inflation, gone up or down??
I think GG and Scouting are good value but for both the cost of activities has gone up a lot. I'd be interested if overall the organisations have absorbed the costs or not.

Seeline · 17/09/2018 12:20

Apart from the odd grant from local businesses or charity collections like Waitrose/Tesco community schemes, the only income the units get is from subs.

theworldaccordingtome · 17/09/2018 12:48

I charge my Rainbows £30 a term (with 3 terms a year as well, to mimic school terms), this includes the annual Girlguiding Membership fee. It covers hall rental, craft etc materials, badges, and new resources such as the badge book and folder for each girl. Trips out may cost extra depending on overall costs, but would also be subsidised by the unit.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 17/09/2018 12:55

I've got no idea on inflation and I diddnt mean any offence @BookWitch if I had kids they would be doing brownies/scouts whatever and I'm sure I would think it great value, sorry!

aperolspritzplease · 17/09/2018 12:58

£30 a term which follows the school term. £15 at first term for the joining fee.

TokyoSushi · 17/09/2018 12:59

£25 x 3 here

Maryann1975 · 17/09/2018 13:04

I’m a brown owl. We charge £25 per term and have a joining fee of £12 when you first start with us to pay for the books/badges your daughter needs. The local rainbows is £30 with no joining fee and guides is £35. I try to subsidise outings/trips out of the £25, for instance we went to the climbing place last term which cost £10 and the girls were only charged £3. It also includes our census/insurance money too.
My sons scouts cost £35, the next one along is £40 and on a weekly basis, there is not a lot of difference in what they get (the scouts have their own hut to pay for whereas the guides all use schools/village halls). For both organisations camps/sleepovers etc cost extra.

I think it’s a bargain really, dance classses round here are about £5 per week for 30-45 minutes. So double the money for half the time.

Pyjamaface · 17/09/2018 13:09

DS does Cubs and we pay £10 a month, every month. We do pay extra for trips/activities but not a lot. He had a full day of water activities during the summer for £5, a sleepover at a trampoline park coming up for £30, and a full day laser tag for £12. Food and drink is all provided. It's amazingly cheap

pretendingtowork1 · 17/09/2018 13:11

Similar here, £11 monthly year round for cubs. Staggeringly good value.
