If you're child goes to Rainbows how much does it cost you per week or term?

It varies in my area but local one is charging 3x £30 just wondering if this is the norm Smile

Brownies for DD is £12 per half term so payments are every 6 weeks.

BBGA (Boys Brigade and Girls Association) is something like £25 per year. How they do it on that money I have no idea. He comes home with some craft most weeks and had a weekend residential last year for peanuts. I think BBGA get the church hall for free whereas Guides and Scouts pay for it as they are less specifically church orientated.

Ours is £30 per term

Guides is £30 a term here.

Beavers is £10 a month.

Both amazingly cheap I think.

jmh740 · 17/09/2018 16:31

I pay 25 a quarter for dd guides and 30 a quarter for ds cubs.

howhighistherainbow · 17/09/2018 16:46

Thanks again, yes good value. Dd loves it also. Rainbows in next village is £30 cheaper a year so I was comparing to see what other groups charged.

Most around £30 a term it seems.

I'm an Owl. All of our units charge £40 per term. Our rent is relatively expensive, but we don't charge separately for the annual census nor a joining fee. If your daughter joins us for spring term only, we make a large loss!

Local Scouting charges £10 per month.

RageAgainstTheTagine · 17/09/2018 16:50

I do hope all the potential girl-guide mums here know about their policy of letting in males without telling parents. And yes, on overnights too Shock

Cindersdonegood · 17/09/2018 16:57

We pay £1.50 per session. Unfortunately we are in what is classed as a deprived area (no idea why, it's really not true!) so can't pay monthly or quarterly etc.

Alwayscommuting · 17/09/2018 17:01

There's been a change to the program as far as I'm aware and it's put costs up slightly. I know I'm our area they hadn't changed in a long time. Still good value and a brilliant organisation ran by volunteers.

rage That's not what this thread is about.

Guides and Brownies are £30 per school term here. This includes the annual subscription to Guiding hq.

How is it spent? Roughly 1/4 goes on the annual subscription, about 1/3 on hall rent and the rest on activities, badges, and resources. We find raise to pay for camping equipment and to keep the cost of trips down, we also claim gift aid. The groups don't make a profit!

Heratnumber7 · 17/09/2018 17:41

If Rainbows in next village is cheaper it will be either because they have a larger unit to spread fixed costs such as hall rental per girl, or because they do different activities, or possibly charge more for extras such as residentials or one off "special" meetings.

The units don't make a profit. They only need to cover their costs - and you get what you pay for. Having been a local District Commissioner (area manager) for Guiding, I'd be wary of units that seem very cheap. There's usually a reason for that.
