How much do you spend each year on holidays?

We're pricing up for next year, haven't been since 2015 as we "can't afford" it, yet our household income is ok - about £90k gross. There never seems to be spare money though.

Curious to know how much other people spend on their holidays each year as a proportion of their income.

OP posts:

This year
Easter - trip To Scotland touring the castles for 5 days £1900 including hotels and food for 2 adults & 2 kids.

Summer holiday - usually two weeks somewhere hot £5k-£10k

Winter weekend breaks Rome/Paris £2k

Household income £65k low out goings & we love travelling.

TrumpsTinyCheesyWotsit · 16/09/2018 15:37

Household income of £46k and I spend about 6-10k on holidays including spends for 5 of us. But I am a bargain hunter so book it all myself and make my money go further. This year we went to France for a week, booked a villa for 10 of us in Spain and then had a week at Flamingo land. Me and the husband are going to Iceland again for 4 days around xmas. Last year we went to Portugal for two weeks, Corfu for 16 days and had a week at haven. We also camp for the occasional weekend throughout the year.

Justabadwife · 16/09/2018 15:37

Not a lot really.
A week all inclusive to Spain for 3 of us is about £1800
A long weekend away is about £600 for hotel and activities. Plus spending money
A weekend away just me and DH is about £300 plus spending money

We only earn 32k between us.

FaFoutis · 16/09/2018 15:41

£4-5k. We get about four holidays, a festival and a couple of weekends away out of that.
I went on expensive holidays as a child and found them boring. Cheap is more fun.

BitchQueen90 · 16/09/2018 15:42

I'm not a high earner! £21k is my total household income.

LEMtheoriginal · 16/09/2018 15:48

Crazy amounts of money being boasted here - we spent £450 on Two camping holidays this year. Household income approx 30k.

movinggoalposts · 16/09/2018 15:49

Five of us and the most we have ever spent is about £3k. This year we had other things to pay for so we spent about £600 on just a few nights away. I didn’t notice the difference, apart from not resenting the kids for bickering when we’d spent a fortune!

LEMtheoriginal · 16/09/2018 15:49

Lmao at 4-5k being quoted as cheap. Come on now!

PodgeBod · 16/09/2018 15:50

Probably around £150 this year, one UK midweek Sun Holiday and then another midweek caravan with cost split between 3.
Next year have booked for a week away at Haven in Norfolk, that's set us back about £140 and hoping to save up £200 spending money. It's our last year being able to go away in term time so I want to enjoy it.
I don't even know what our household income is. It's not a lot Grin

Longdistance · 16/09/2018 15:53

About 4K in total, I could be wrong though.

A week in Mallorca, Disneyland Paris (but only 4 nights there, went to Reims and Versailles) and Paris with Eurostar for our wedding anniversary. We might book a small break in October for half term, or I migh bugger off myself somewhere as I have extra time off.

Household income around £90k.

therealimposter · 16/09/2018 15:53

About 12-15k.

cloudtree · 16/09/2018 15:57

About 10k typically. Circa 3k skiing and then a summer holiday in the region of £6k and a short break of about £1k.

HH income circa 350/400k depending on how the year has gone.

somewhereovertherain · 16/09/2018 15:57

Holidays important to us but you don’t need to spend much

This year

Barbados under 3k family of 4
London under 500
Lakes Glamping 300 for two nights to people.
States less than 2k for 3 of us.
Planned a adult trip to Portugal in January 5* costing us £300 each.

Family income Around 60-60k

blue25 · 16/09/2018 15:58

It's not boasting. We're answering the OPs question. So what if it's more than you can afford. Some families earn high salaries & spend lots on holidays!

jq28 · 16/09/2018 16:01

Household income around £50k
We go to Vegas every year and have a week somewhere like Cyprus too.
Probably around 7-8k a year which is too much but I wouldn't change it for the world.

mononoaware1907 · 16/09/2018 16:01

Around £5-6k this year. It's probably going to be more next year as we're saving up for Maldives.

Normally it is 2x city breaks/year, one long holiday (8-9-10 nights, not necessarily long haul) + 2-3 long weekends.

For us, travel is a huge priority

CamdenTownie · 16/09/2018 16:10

This year we've spent around 15k, we've had two long haul holidays and a week in the uk, plus a few weekends away. Our income is 75k between us and we are a family of 6.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 16/09/2018 16:10

Holidays are our main thing. In the last year we have been to Amsterdam, Cuba, Prague, Portugal and we're off to New York (with the DSC!) I also went away to wales with my family and we have had the odd weekend away in the UK for weddings etc.

We save and use company share save schemes to afford it all, and credit cards on 0% interest which we pay off over the following year.

Household income of about £65k (just realised I have no idea how much my husband earns!)

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 16/09/2018 16:12

Diddnt even add the amount- I'm a dick!

I guess the last year has been about £7k

notacooldad · 16/09/2018 16:12

Last year:
Me £5,300 approx
DP £750
As a family excluding Ds1 £6,200
So last year we spent about 12k but that included a ' big holiday.

housewifeoflittleitaly · 16/09/2018 16:14

lala come on tell us where you went with that spend, must be amazing!

happymummy12345 · 16/09/2018 16:16

We've never been on holiday, as a couple or as a family, abroad or here. Not even a honeymoon. Not likely to have a holiday for years to come either. Just not what we do.
I can't believe people actually have at least one a year

DragonScales · 16/09/2018 16:16

Big summer holiday around 4k (2 adults, 2dc).

Couple of times a year we'll hop on the eurotunnel and stay with family (totals only around £200 for crossing, petrol and spending money - accommodation is free)

Didiusfalco · 16/09/2018 16:28

For a bit of balance, we spent about £1500 on a weekend in North Yorkshire, a week on the south coast, and a week in the Lake District - all self catering.

I thought I was fortunate to have three breaks (and indeed I am) my mind is boggling slightly at the idea of £90k being an ‘ok’ income.

TarquinGyrfalcon · 16/09/2018 16:40

About 8% of our income this year on two holidays in the UK.
Next year I'd like to go abroad so will probably rise to 10%
