Ideas please! A breakfast that can be packed in hand luggage 3 days in advance?

I am turning to you wise mumsnetters for a solution to this dilemma.

On Thursday we are flying to Paris. Hand luggage only. On Sunday DH will be running a 1/2 marathon starting at 7am. He will need to eat beforehand. Breakfast in the hotel won’t be available early enough, so we will need to take something with us (not staying somewhere we can access a supermarket).

We don’t have a fridge or kettle in our room.

Any ideas other than cereal bars?

There are loads of recipes online for protein balls/flapjacks which should be sustaining and will keep. Pack with an unripe banana or two?

LapdanceShoeshine · 15/09/2018 14:24

Small cartons of longlife juice?
Bananas?
Other fruit?
Crisps?
(I admit I’ve no idea what is good running fodder Grin)

sleepismysuperpower1 · 15/09/2018 14:26

what about breakfast muffins? if you store them in an airtight container then they should be fine (i think!)

or maybe a baked breakfast cookie?

all the best x

Soreen malt loaf lunchbox ? You can get 5 in a pack and are a mini version of the normal size.

Nellyelora · 15/09/2018 14:26

Supermarkets sell long-life brioche/croissants. They're quite sweet though

AlexanderHamilton · 15/09/2018 14:26

A cereal pot made with a bottle of Weetabix Protein UHT chocolate/vanilla or strawberry milk or the 10k brand ones.

Protein bars you can get from sports shops

FurryDogMother · 15/09/2018 14:26

Go shopping at Orly airport when you arrive? You could probably get hold of some cereal, or granola-type bars, and longlife milk, plus bananas and other fruit, cheese etc. - usually loads of food to buy at airports!

wowfudge · 15/09/2018 14:27

If you are arriving on Thursday are you really not going to be able to buy breakfast for the Sunday on the two days in between?

TeenTimesTwo · 15/09/2018 14:28

Buy something at the airport after landing to take with you?

Go to a cafe on Fri/Sat and buy something there to take away?

DunesOfSand · 15/09/2018 14:28

Malt loaf. Cold pop tarts.
Will their be any kind of shop? Take cereal and buy some UHT milk. Take powdered milk?
Crackers and a tube of primula cheese spread??? (check the liquid rule, and tube size....)
Ask the hotel for a "packed breakfast". Our hotel used to do this when we were working the 6am shift on a foreign factory. Carton of fruit juice. croissant, yoghurt and piece of fruit left behind reception for us.
Hopefully others will have some good ideas. Not sure those are really setting him up to run 13 miles!

AlexanderHamilton · 15/09/2018 14:28

Or flap jack, Belvita slow release biscuits. To sugary for everyday but ok for this.

Lauren0rder · 15/09/2018 14:29

Porridge pot
Just add boiling water.

bbcessex · 15/09/2018 14:30

Take some of the protein porridge pots along with nuts & raisins.

The night before, wherever you’re staying, mix add the nuts & raisins then top up with cold milk

I do this regularly when away on business (try to avoid the temptation of hotel breakfast!) and they are delicious.

FunkyBoldRibenas · 15/09/2018 14:30

where will you be eating Friday and Saturday?

Chiffon · 15/09/2018 14:31

Just buy something in a cafe before the race?

AdaColeman · 15/09/2018 14:31

Speak to the hotel, that will provide an early breakfast.

Things like Bonne Mamam madeleines, Whaoo individually wrapped croissants or similar brands, apples & dried fruit, could also be useful.

Elbbob · 15/09/2018 14:32

In Aldi and probably Sainsbury and other supermarkets you can buy packs of individually wrapped brioche buns some with chocolate chips, or individually wrapped mini croissants, waffles.
Also nuts, apple.

Could the hotel make sandwiches the night before and wrap them up for you?

MummaGiles · 15/09/2018 14:32

Some great ideas here. Thank you! To those asking, we are going to Disneyland Paris, staying at the resort and won’t have a car. It’s the Disney half marathon he’s running.

Glitteryfrog · 15/09/2018 14:33

Paris has millions of Carrefour express shops (like a Tesco metro). Unless you're not leaving the hotel at all between Thursday and Sunday morning I'm sure you'll pass one.

Glitteryfrog · 15/09/2018 14:34

Are you sure the hotel won't be doing special 'Runner's Breakfasts' for people taking part in the race?

carrie74 · 15/09/2018 14:36

If you request an early breakfast from most hotels (that offer breakfast), they will do that for you and bring it to the room. Because it's a Disney event in a Disney hotel, I'd be very surprised if they're not opening the breakfast room early, as presumably he's not the only competitor.

marcopront · 15/09/2018 14:39

Are you sure the hotel won't be doing special 'Runner's Breakfasts' for people taking part in the race?

I agree with this.
Surely a lot of people will be wanting breakfast.

AdaColeman · 15/09/2018 14:39

I can't you being hungry in Disneyland Paris, feeding the runners will be a money making opportunity just too good to miss.

MummaGiles · 15/09/2018 14:44

Hopefully there will be a runners breakfast arrangement (even if it’s just early breakfast from the hotel) but I just want to be prepared in case that’s not the case. Organisation/communication from them hasn’t been the best.

Which hotel are you staying in?

Not a popular opinion, but take some bread/croissants etc from the buffet the day before.

Or there is a shop in the train station right by the entrance to DLP
