Ideas please! A breakfast that can be packed in hand luggage 3 days in advance?

I am turning to you wise mumsnetters for a solution to this dilemma.

On Thursday we are flying to Paris. Hand luggage only. On Sunday DH will be running a 1/2 marathon starting at 7am. He will need to eat beforehand. Breakfast in the hotel won’t be available early enough, so we will need to take something with us (not staying somewhere we can access a supermarket).

We don’t have a fridge or kettle in our room.

Any ideas other than cereal bars?

In the past I have roasted chicken breast sliced it frozen it and then put it in individual or small packets pop it into one of the jiffy bubble wrap lined envelopes depending on the ambient temperature it will stay frozen generally for about 4/6 hours and cold for another two .
If taking liquids is not an issue in crunch up a couple of Weetabix and add long life milk into a bottle that it can be drunk out of.
I agree with pp pieces of fruit would be good.
Not the healthiest option but chocolate bars will give the sugar hit that most runners require also dried fruit easy to pack lightweight and will keep.
Jerky also keeps almost and definitely so long as it doesn't get too warm

I ate porridge oats with long life milk before a marathon. Not cooked but eaten over two hours before I ran and served me well.

Bubblysqueak · 15/09/2018 15:16

What about the porridge pots that you add boiling water to.

Ffs almost indefinitely

Sirzy · 15/09/2018 15:18

Whatever he gets he could do with keeping it as close to his normal pre run breakfast as possible. Race day isn’t the time to try something new!

Chocolateporridge · 15/09/2018 15:27

How about a bag of bagels and some bananas, and even a jar of peanut butter, just slice up the bagels and spread peanut butter and banana on them?

LapdanceShoeshine · 15/09/2018 15:47

Peanut butter is a great idea!

allyouneedis · 15/09/2018 15:59

Cereal bars or small brioche rolls that are pre wrapped?

HoundOfTheBasketballs · 15/09/2018 16:00

Just to echo what sirzy has said, the morning of race day, he shouldn't be eating anything he hasn't already tested out as part of his training/race prep.
Introducing unfamiliar foods is asking to have the shits/start puking up halfway round.
I say this as someone who has made this mistake themselves. And paid for it. 🤢

MummaGiles · 15/09/2018 16:06

Thanks everyone. I will put some ideas to DH and see what he wants to do.

I thought there were shops close to DLP

KingPrawnOkay · 15/09/2018 16:17

I did the race the first year it was on and there isn’t a runner’s breakfast. I took a kettle in my hand luggage and made up some porridge and also took a banana. Also took some vegan protein powder which I just have with water for afterwards. If you’re staying at the resort, there’s also a little garage by Santa Fe, so within walking distance from everything but Davy Crockett. They sell little bits which might be useful xx

MummaGiles · 15/09/2018 16:22

Thanks KingPrawn. We are staying at the SantaFe so will bear that in mind.

You will be able to buy things the day before.

Buxtonstill · 15/09/2018 16:26

Pepperami, and Laughing cow cheese triangles do not require refrigeration, despite beiing sold from them in supermarkets. In Mauritius, they are on the shop floor, without being chilled, and we have never come to any harm. Have them with some crackers?

Haggishaggispudding · 15/09/2018 16:30

There’s so many breakfast drinks now - weetabix do one, there’s one called fuel I think.

Sirzy · 15/09/2018 16:33

Breakfast drinks would be too big to take in hand luggage wouldn’t they? Unless purchased when through security

Lwmommy · 15/09/2018 16:38

From the race page FAQs
www.runtothemagic.com/faqs/

Q. Is Food and Beverage available prior to the Race?

A. Several locations in Disney Village® and at the Disney Hotels will open early for race participants and spectators. Additionally, pre-race water will be available in the Family Reunion Area prior to the start of the Half Marathon.

youarenotkiddingme · 15/09/2018 16:39

You can buy the bottles of cereal.
Protein bars and sachets from shops that sell foods used during running.
Anything airpacked that isn't opened.

I'd look at what carb and protein level needs to be in the foods and aim for those rather than 'what' food it is - eg it doesn't need to be breakfast type stuff - just the right stuff

Good luck to your DH!

WrongKindOfFace · 15/09/2018 16:43

If he does want anything he can’t get or take with him there is a massive supermarket at Val D’Europe one stop on the train. It’s only a few minutes.
