Said this about a particularly lazy colleague today and had my immediate neighbour in tears laughing at it!

I'm Scottish and she's English, she claims never to have heard it before!

That meringue joke is one of my dad’s favourites, along with:
Q: what’s the difference between Bing Crosby and Walt Disney?
A: Bing sings and Walt disnae Grin

Dontrocktheboat · 18/09/2018 22:40

'Is that a doughnut or a meringue?'
'No you're right it's a doughnut.'

One of my favourite jokes too, told by my male primary 7 teacher (along with various much less appropriate jokes - late eighties for you!) My kids (English) just about get it!

Singingitoverandoverandover · 19/09/2018 07:39

Givemestrengthorgin · 19/09/2018 08:52

Glaswegian goes to the dentist and sits in the chair.

“Comfy?” Asks the dentist

“Govan” replies the woman

Teenage girl phones her dad, “ I’ve missed the last bus and it’s pouring with rain, can you come and get me?”

“Where are you ringing from?” Asks her dad

“From the top of my head right down to my knickers...”

"if you eat any more gulshicks you won't be able for your tea"

Not sure of spelling of gulchiks

We play the Scottish alternative to Say Yes to the Dress.

Wid ye day Aye tae the Pie!

sunshineNdaisies · 19/09/2018 10:50

is it only Scottish folk who sing

"she'll be coming round the mountain when she comes..."

aye aye yippee yippeee aye

whatashower · 19/09/2018 13:34

sunshineNdaisies,

No, I do believe that tune is an international folk song, however you may be referring to our special version with those immortal Scottish lyrics -

Ye Cannae Shove Yer Granny Aff A Bus

...with the priceless rationalisation. 'cos she's your mammy's mammy"

All other relatives are fair game if you know the other verses. 🤣

YeTalkShiteHen · 19/09/2018 13:35

My “other Grannie” (my daddy’s mammy) was heartily offended by the second verse Grin I would have shoved her aff the bus too

whatashower · 19/09/2018 14:26

🤣

toomuchtooold · 19/09/2018 14:53

How about "ma maw's a millionaire", anybody remember that one?

toomuchtooold · 19/09/2018 14:55

Here does anybody sing their kids "Ally Bally Bee" as a lullaby? My (decidedly not that Scottish) DD still asks for "the crying bee song" now and again... she's 6, and I can hardly sing it for choking up these days thinking each time is going to be the last...

My Arab children had grandchildren have all grown up on it and it’s the first song any of the new babies hear. We also sing it before we go to sleep when I have my grandchildren for a sleepover.

YeTalkShiteHen · 19/09/2018 15:15

I still sing Ally Bally Bee! I’ve done it since they were babies and they still ask now.
