Parking oneself in a parking space without a car?!

Lighthearted. This had me giggling for quite some time so thought I'd share as it's a new one to me. Was in the car with husband who indicated to go into the last parking space in a very busy small car park with a queue to gain entry. Lady runs over, stands in the middle of the space in a jumping jack type shape. Legs splayed wide and arms 90 degrees from her body. He opened the window & asked her to move because he was trying to park & she said she was reserving the space for her partner. We had to wait for a space so watched this woman stood in a ridiculous pose in this space for almost 5 minutes until her partner materialised.

So if anyone doesn't drive & feels left out of the AIBU's about parking disputes, you can still get involved by parking oneself in a space it seems!Grin

But you were there first!

12sillypenguins · 12/09/2018 22:45

I would have still parked there

DramaAlpaca · 12/09/2018 22:49

This has made me laugh because it's brought back childhood memories of my mother doing exactly that every time my dad drove into a busy car park Grin

Peterpickedapickledpepper · 12/09/2018 22:51

Well my husband tried to explain to her we were there first & asked her to move but she refused despite his best efforts. We were quite happy to watch her stand in such a ridiculous pose rather than get the space while waiting for another. It was far more entertaining!

I like the idea of this.
Tomorrow I'll plonk my garden chair in front of someone's dropped kerb

Peterpickedapickledpepper · 12/09/2018 22:53

@DramaAlpaca haha so it is a thing! I've never seen anyone do it before! The standing in a star jump position was the part that made it amazing- why was that necessary?! Just standing there normally would have sufficed 😂

I would have driven slowly into the space and forced her to move. If she refused I would have phoned the police and wasted their time on her behalf.

OraangeSoda · 12/09/2018 22:55

I’d have told her to fuck off.

Eatmycheese · 12/09/2018 22:55

Thank you for making me laugh.

GunpowderGelatine · 12/09/2018 23:07

There was a video doing the rounds on Facebook of exactly this and the bloke in it made me genuinely LOL as he said "this is a car parking space not a woman parking space" 😂 honestly if it was me I'd have stayed there all day, unless I absolutely had to move (and by that I mean if I was in labour or the car set on fire)

ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers · 12/09/2018 23:13

I would have driven as far into the space as possible, or at the very least blocked the space so another car couldn’t drive in there and calmly waited for her to move. The star jump thing sound hilarious but I hate that level of entitlement so would have refused to let her get away with it.

sirmione16 · 12/09/2018 23:15

Yeah I would've pulled up as close to it as I could so the other car couldn't get in, blast the music and chill with my feet up till she gave up.

PlatypusPie · 12/09/2018 23:18

I would have driven slowly but determinedly at her, with an appropriately unnerving expression on my face 😈

Gardai · 12/09/2018 23:22

This happened to me ! The woman wasn’t doing the star thing and moved quickly as I looked grimly determined to mow her down.
Very odd behaviour to think they can do that.

sirmione16 · 13/09/2018 11:22

Anyone aware of what the law/Highway Code would say to this

Fieau · 13/09/2018 11:25

I've had someone try this with me and I just drove as far into the space as I could and then made her move. My friend who was in the car with me was mortified but there was no way I was going to let someone "bagsy" a space by standing in it Grin

Peterpickedapickledpepper · 13/09/2018 11:33

We decided having time to enjoy watching the woman try to maintain a star jump position while knowing we were watching (we stopped facing her to wait for another space) was definitely more important than getting the space. Grin

I must be lacking a sense of humour because I would just be annoyed at her, not amused.

How was her partner going to get into the space when there was a queue waiting in a small car park?

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/09/2018 11:33

I suspect this is not covered by the Highway Code as car parks are not the public highway.

Who got the space in the end? If I was halfway into the last space when Mrs CF bounds into it, I'm not going to give it up, especially as the actual car she is reserving it for is nowhere in sight.

diavlo · 13/09/2018 11:37

This happened to me in IKEA a couple of years ago. I politely told the pillock that I was going to continue reversing my car in, so he'd probably be wise to move!

He wasn't too pleased, but I'd have left my car half way in if he'd refused to move Grin

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 13/09/2018 11:37

You should have taken pics and told her to check YouTube later!

BarbaraofSevillle · 13/09/2018 11:39

Oh, cross posted about the space. And I too would be annoyed. Why is their time more important than anyone elses?

Tangletwisters · 13/09/2018 11:40

My mother used to make me do this as a child. The mortification! Blush

ArtemisWeatherwax · 13/09/2018 11:45

Someone did this to me once. Apparently she was waiting for her parents to drive around with her pfb and they couldn't possibly walk any further from the entrance because of the pfb with its 3 adults to look after it. I rolled down the back window and indicated the vast amount of children in the back of my car and that there was just me to look after them and she should get out of the way. And then she looked like she was going to cry and I felt bad Confused and drove off. Had she been doing a starfish I wouldn't have said anything.

Gettingbackonmyfeet · 13/09/2018 11:50

My mother used to do this when my Dsis was looking for a space a lot . They are both very entitled but that embarrassed even my Dsis Grin I found it beyond funny when my Dsis used to moan about it , I would tell my mother she was being ridiculous but it had no effect

She never tried it with me Grin

I think she stopped doing it when she did it to "help" my exbil but he was so horrified he drove to the other side of the car park and parked there out of embarrassment and left her star stood in the space.

At least i think I laughed so hard during my dmum telling me this in indignation she refused to repeat it to me (and my guffaws had drowned her out) because I wasn't taking exbil lack of respect to her seriously GrinGrin

I mean the man was a giant arse but I've always thought well of him for that incident
