All male ward, I'm the only female, would you be comfortable with it?

So I'm tired, tearful and fed up, so I'm not sure I'm thinking straight.

I've been in A&E for two days, and had a horrendous time, they've moved me to a ward with three nice old ladies.

I've been here half an hour and they've just told me I'm moving to another ward. Off we trot, I've no glasses or contacts in so can see very little.

I've just sat down and realised there are six beds in here and I'm the only woman the rest are occupied my men.

Next to me is a man who was aggressive in A&E abusing the staff. He's trying to engage me in conversation.

I've had no sleep as I sat on a chair in a corridor for 19 hours. I cannot sleep in here and I want to cry.

What can I do?

I'd be so stressed it would make me I'll. I'd have to be very ill to not discharge myself. I hope you can get it sorted.

Oh you poor thing

Please tell the staff that you do not feel safe and that you need to be moved. Have you any family or friends who can advocate on your behalf (even over the phone from home?). Do not be afraid to state and assert your needs.

delphguelph · 11/09/2018 20:55

Complain. Loudly.

AspieHere · 11/09/2018 20:56

Fuck no would I be ok with this!

WindDoesNotBreakTheBendyTree · 11/09/2018 20:56

TBH I'd tell them you've posted it on Mumsnet and you're prepared to name the hospital.

SquishySquirmy · 11/09/2018 20:58

Even just going by your thread title, I was going to say I wouldn't feel comfortable with that. I wouldn't mind as much as some women would but I wouldn't like it.
It is perfectly OK that some people are bothered more than others about things like this; just because some posters wouldn't mind it doesn't mean you shouldn't!

But after everything else you've been through that's even more shit!
Seems odd to have moved you because another lady on the ward was being noisy; at the very least you would have thought they would discuss it with you first (eg, "would you rather stay here or move to a mixed ward where it may be quieter?")

Smellybean · 11/09/2018 20:58

I personally wouldn’t mind. But after your experience then if you’re not comfortable with it then I would make noise and demand to be moved. Hope you’re better soon op and get to go home to see your dd ASAP. Flowers

Redcrayons · 11/09/2018 21:00

Oh no, I wouldn't be able to sleep in there. If you don't feel you can complain, do you have someone who can come speak up for you.

Jojoanna · 11/09/2018 21:01

I would not like it at all

ScrambledSmegs · 11/09/2018 21:03

Sounds like our local A&E. I say local, it's bloody miles away since they closed the one that served not just our area but 2 major motorways and a major A road too. The hospital we all have to use now was failing before it had to take double the amount of patients. That was a good plan Hmm

Please complain, although I know you must be exhausted and wrung-out. I hope they move you somewhere you feel safer.

LeftRightCentre · 11/09/2018 21:03

Please complain!

Labradoodliedoodoo · 11/09/2018 21:04

Can you plonk yourself by the nurses station and not move

FruitCider · 11/09/2018 21:08

As a nurse I'm horrified. Ask to be moved to single sex bay for your dignity. If they refuse ask for the number for PALS and ring them!

FruitCider · 11/09/2018 21:09

Oh and I would be inboxing national newspapers whilst I was at it!

UpstartCrow · 11/09/2018 21:11

I don't believe anyone who says they wouldn't mind has ever been in the situation where they are exhausted, ill, vulnerable, and targeted by a man who hits on them.

Please complain to the nurses and insist they move you back, then when you are up to it, complain to PALS Flowers

EmmaC78 · 11/09/2018 21:12

I wouldn't mind being on a mixed sex ward but I would not want to be near and aggressive patient, whether they are male or female. Hope you get it sorted soon.

cdtaylornats · 11/09/2018 21:15

Perhaps those you are identifying as men, self identify as women Smile

Pebblespony · 11/09/2018 21:17

I wouldn't have a problem on a mixed ward but I definitely would have a problem being next to an aggressive person, male or female. I hope you get it sorted.

NewYearNewMe18 · 11/09/2018 21:19

TBH I'd tell them you've posted it on Mumsnet and you're prepared to name the hospital.

That'll tell 'em Hmm

prettypinkdaisies · 11/09/2018 21:22

Ring the bell, and as to speak to someone in charge..I hope you’ve moved by now.
Call someone to come and give you some support, you are exhausted, and this is unacceptable.
If you are able, get up and move next to the nurses station and sit on a chair.
Definitely ring anyone you know who might come and support you, friend or family.

I’ve been in a similar situation, I was offered no help, ( I asked for it from home ) and I am very bitter about it.

prettypinkdaisies · 11/09/2018 21:24

And anyone who says they wouldn’t mind being in this situation is an absolute blithering idiot, with limited intelligence and no empathy.

And I really mean that

Smellybean · 11/09/2018 21:27

And anyone who says they wouldn’t mind being in this situation is an absolute blithering idiot, with limited intelligence and no empathy.

Whose said they wouldn’t mind being in ops situation? Confused

WindDoesNotBreakTheBendyTree · 11/09/2018 21:28

.... I suppose I may be overestimating the power of the collective will....

Snapespeare · 11/09/2018 21:28

Ive been thinking about you op and wishing you well. This sounds awful. I know you feel like shit, but please ask to be moved somewhere you can sleep/rest

prettypinkdaisies · 11/09/2018 21:31

smellybean shirleyphallus , emmac78, and at least one other I cant be bothered to skim back and forth to name ...
