I think September 11th is definitely one of those moments when you remember exactly where you were. As MN is such a cross section of society I thought it would be interesting to know where people were when it happened.

I don't remember, yet I was 18 at the time. Probably in sixth form.

I had gone to K-Mart to pay my Christmas lay away. I had Dd1 in the carriage. I had to pass through the electronics dept to get to the lay away payment counter. I saw everyone huddled round a TV but carried on to make mt payment. It was only on the way back, seeing everyone still there that I went to investigate.

I remember saying to the guy standing next to me, a plane?, but what about all the people?. I just couldnt get my head round it.I watched in total horror the second plane hitting. It was just too much to take in, that someone would do this.

I drove home and spent the rest of the day crying in front of the TV. I listened to the fighter jets flying low over an otherwise silent sky. I was totally freaked.

Its a day I will never forget.

I can see how you might not set the smoke of you were in Central Park - there are some nice little corners there and if you were facing north. I'm not sure which way the wind was blowing either.

I ony have eyewitness accounts from people who were very close /in the towers.

I was on the internet and so seeing it as it happened. I was online on one of the first chat/messenger type sites and told a mate about it. They were at work, couldn't see the TV, and didn't believe me. I almost didn't believe it myself.

I remember watching the footage - not sure it if was live - of a guy filming on the road and running down it as the tower collapsed and the dust cloud approached. He ran into a shop and filmed the dust cloud passing the shops picture windows. I was all rather surreal.

Also, we had friends in the air at the time travelling from Florida home. It was all a bit scary. When they landed they got the news. Their young daughter refused to fly again for about 10 years afterwards. Shes flying now though!

I was at work. Remember hearing it on the radio. Then later watching tv in disbelief. It changed our whole work environment

Satsumaeater · 14/09/2018 13:58

At work, someone came and told me that a plane had flown into the World Trade Centre. At that point we thought it was an accident - until the second one hit of course. An email came round work asking us not to break the internet trying to get news. Walked into town and looked at the news on TV screens in the window of a shop.

I worked in Staines at the time, near Heathrow. It took quite a while before I could look into the sky and look at planes without thinking of them as sinister weapons. I did fly very soon after though, only about two weeks.

We were sent home from work as we were so close to Heathrow and people weren't sure what was going to happen next. Seems a bit panicky now but it was a very scary time.

I was at school (year 7) we all got sent home from school 15 minutes after it happened watched the news and just cried. I remember being so upset at how evil the world is and so scared.

Elderflower14 · 14/09/2018 16:11

I had been out. My DH had died in July and it was my first time shopping on my own.
My best friend had asked me to pick something up and I dropped it in to hers. I wondered what on earth her 3 year old was watching. I thought it was some awful movie but it was the towers collapsing.... 😪 😪 😪

flowergrrl77 · 18/09/2018 15:45

Off work sick with awful morning sickness, came downstairs and initially thought that my housemate was watching a film. Then realised... it was news 😞

TheBee2 this is a thread about 9/11 and where you were when it happened

scammedohshit · 19/09/2018 16:46

I was driving miles from home and on way back from work. I heard it on th car radio. I just knew I had to get home to be with the children. As I walked in my 10 year old son just ran to me as he’d heard it on the TV. I can remember him saying ‘ I know mum I know mum it’s so horrible’
