Escape Rooms - any other fans?

Did my first escape room with friends about 2 years ago and loved it! Kids are fans too and I keep my eyes peeled for groupon type vouchers which seem to pop up every now and again for local rooms.

Went as a family last weekend and had great fun trying to escape from an abandoned science lab....

Any other fans??

Yep

Got the bug in America 2016 when we were in holiday

Weve done a prison escape, a spy one, titanic, serial killer, time portal ones...a few of those and a police one in this country

We all enjoy it so it's excellent for us as a famil

Dd did one with a group of friends the other day but i forget which one it was

Jonsnowsghost · 08/09/2018 12:45

Me! I love an escape room. Done all sorts, I like the scary themed ones the most, it just adds an extra element!

ThanksHunkyJesus · 08/09/2018 12:47

I love them it's like a real life video game

Sparrow8 · 08/09/2018 12:48

Yes we love them too. We enjoy doing them as a family, great way to spend time with the kids.

flowerythorns · 08/09/2018 12:49

I've never done one. I found myself getting all pc when the local pub did 'escape from an asylum'? Something like that.

I thought it would be all 'one flew over the cuckoos nest' misrepresenting MH/psych wards.

What am I missing out on? Grin

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 12:53

flowery

I bet that one would be good

In the serial killer room we were led in blindfolded and chained to the wall

I thought dd would need some support and patted her arm lovingly...really bad move...really really bad move, i cant express enough how patting your daughter lovingly when she is blindfolded and chained to a wall is a baaaaaad move

PolkerrisBeach · 08/09/2018 12:55

I've never been chained to the wall but the last time we all wore white coats and pretended to be brain surgeons who'd arrived for a conference but couldn't get out of the lab.

I don't think my kids would be up for the ones where zombies leap out of cupboards at you.

Mostly though flowery it's solving puzzles, finding keys, unlocking a drawer to find the next part of the puzzle, lateral thinking, team work... lots of fun.

I like the fact that the ones I've been to have all been run by entrepreneurial individuals/ groups of friends etc who put a lot of effort in to coming up with ideas and work very long hours.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 12:56

Im not up to zombies jumping out at me!!

I do love the theming

On the titanic we were given life jackets which we took off as it was too hot

The theming got so realistic as we went through that ds1 put his back on...he is 19

Its memories like that we love,

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 12:58

Oh and in the police on he got so stressed that when we got the final key to unlock the door

He just stood there yelling ' what am I supposed to do with this!!!'

We just looked at him...

PolkerrisBeach · 08/09/2018 12:58

The Titanic one sounds fab - will have to look out for something similar round this way.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 12:58

The titanic room is in southampton

PolkerrisBeach · 08/09/2018 13:00

I think as well a lot of the success is down to the skill of the moderator - we had one guy who was butting in every minute with "hints" which we didn't need. The best ones are the people who sit back and watch and only intervene when you're really stuck, and only then to give a wee hint, not the whole answer.

So "I think you need to look again at the map on the wall" rather than "the answer is the two grid references added together".

I’ve done the Egyptian themed one with family for husbands 65 th birthday
Only found out about them on mn
I’d hate zombies, serial killers or anything involving a chain saw

QuietNinjaTardis · 08/09/2018 13:04

There’s a Doctor Who themed room
Coming soon. I’ve already asked
For it as my Xmas pressie Grin Tardis

Oakmaiden · 08/09/2018 13:06

We did our first one over the summer holidays. It was really good fun - although it took us about 10 minutes to work out how to turn the lights on...

PolkerrisBeach · 08/09/2018 13:06

Dowser - I've found that most places are very upfront about what to expect. Most DON'T involve chainsaws and zombies, and if you do you'll be warned when booking.

They don't want slated by terrified escapees on Tripadvisor!

GreenMeerkat · 08/09/2018 13:06

Me!! Love them. Done 3 and escaped each time.

Not done any with kids though as mine are too young

WellThisIsShit · 08/09/2018 13:13

Ooh, I’ve never heard of these, they sound fun (or tipping over into too scary, depending!).

What ages are they for? Could an 8yr old do one?

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 13:13

I think as well a lot of the success is down to the skill of the moderator

I agree

The moderator in the killer room said that he had a lovely time watching us Grin

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 13:14

well

Yes they could

Id avoid the killer one though Grin

Unless they've been very naughty

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 13:15

Oak

We find the Winchester cluecapers ones very hard...they are wordy and we are better with maths and science stuff

SneakyGremlins · 08/09/2018 13:15

Do you get murdered if you don't escape? Grin

I'd love to do one, I have played many escape games on my phone and so many professor Layton puzzle games!

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 13:15

quiet

Where is the dr who one?

SneakyGremlins · 08/09/2018 13:16

Quiet Take me! [TARDIS]
