Escape Rooms - any other fans?

Did my first escape room with friends about 2 years ago and loved it! Kids are fans too and I keep my eyes peeled for groupon type vouchers which seem to pop up every now and again for local rooms.

Went as a family last weekend and had great fun trying to escape from an abandoned science lab....

Any other fans??

Argh, a punishment to remember?! How to create lasting memories your child can talk about in the pub for the rest of their lives ‘and then there was this one time when my mum locked me up in a room with a murderer, all I’d done is leave my socks on the floor one time too often!’

PolkerrisBeach · 08/09/2018 13:36

Most of the places we've been are for adults and older children - not because they're particularly "adult" in nature, but some of the puzzles are quite tricky. Children in senior school should be fine. Quite often though there are things like searching for pieces of a jigsaw and putting it together which younger children can do.

Did a Harry Potter themed escape room a few months ago and it was a brilliant laugh.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 13:47

To be fair well that is how most of our pub chats go

The first one we did ds1 locked himself in the last room yelling ' i dont want to die with you people' and ds2 locked dd and i in a room where 'poisoned gas' was coming in

So all the staff could hear was dd and i yelling ' we dont want to die' and me yelling at ds2 ' leave the door alone...its not a toy'

We do not work well together as a team [grin

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 13:47

Wher was that kayte

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 13:49

sneaky

We escaped

There was a room i didnt go into as it was full of mutilated dolls

I sent the kids in instead

SneakyGremlins · 08/09/2018 13:58

Sounds absolutely amazing.

I guess my closest would be Manchester - any recommendations?

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 14:02

Dont know about Manchester

But ive had a quick look at the breakout Manchester site and the room stories look great

SneakyGremlins · 08/09/2018 14:10

Going to text my bestie - she owes me a trip somewhere fun! Grin

rufus Grin

I seriously think I'd be too thick to figure anything out. And the dc's would argue.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/09/2018 14:18

Sneaky are you south of Manchester? If so there are two good ones in Disley.

SneakyGremlins · 08/09/2018 14:21

Oooh Disley is close!

I love mn sometimes I've just guffawed (actually really out loud) at some of these comments

Dp and I have been considering doing an escape room one weekend when DC are at their DF

Definately going to book now , DC are nearly 6 and 3 so not possible to do it with them yet ( and after seeing the above there is not a single doubt they would lock us in somewhere , drop us down a hole or eat a key /jigsaw piece in retribution for insisting on turning off spongebob three weeks last Tuesday Grin)

CleverQuacks · 08/09/2018 14:40

I have done two. One was a pirate theme which was good but the best one was a scary one which was set in an “asylum”. It was terrifying but such a laugh.

SouthernComforts · 08/09/2018 14:47

I've done the one in Manchester - it's in the building that used to be Bijou(?) just round from the MEN.

It was really good and harder than I expected.. four adults with math/logic related jobs and we got out with 2 minutes to spare Blush that was on a four star difficulty one! But they did say most people don't escape that room on the first attempt so we scraped some dignity back after that comment Grin

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 14:47

Oooh dd hid a vital clue cos she thought she had broken it off

Its supposed to come off you fool!!

She is 16... sometimes i wonder where i have gone wrong with my 3

It may well have been when i gave birth

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 14:48

clever

Ooh that does sound scary

wanderings · 08/09/2018 14:48

I've done the Crystal Maze several times - it's not exactly an escape room, but it's very similar to an escape room in lots of ways: teamwork, being led around by a guide.

@Rufustheyawningreindeer Where is the serial killer one? It sounds good!
And @kaytee87 where is the Harry Potter one?

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 14:51

Hoe do you change the title of a link....anyone know?

kaytee87 · 08/09/2018 14:52

@Rufustheyawningreindeer in Glasgow

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 08/09/2018 14:52

It was good wanderings

But there was a lot of stuff ds2 and i didnt want to touch, so it made it a smidge difficult Grin

PolkerrisBeach · 08/09/2018 15:22

We're in Glasgow too and I had no idea of a Harry potter theme room... off to google

I've worked in one and they tend to tailor the hints depending on how well you're doing. I.e someone who's doing well will get something like "you may need a reference" or "take a look at the map" but someone else may get "you need to add the two references..."
If you're ever in Swindon I recommend Incarcerated :)

maras2 · 08/09/2018 15:38

I live opposite one in a large West Midlands city.
From what I can see it's huge fun and seems to appeal to all ages, sexes, stags, hens, kids and oldies, NT and SEN.
There's a 40 minute or so turn around so me being a nosey sod (and housebound) can see the difference between the clients going in and coming out Smile Everyone seems elated.
Who needs a telly? Grin
I love my street.
