Betty in Mad Men - just no need, it was the end of the series and unrealistic for a young woman to die of lung cancer

Cordelia in Angel - think they did this to get back at the actress for getting pregnant, the death was so senseless and ruined the long term story arc

Mark in ER - could he not have had a happy ending on that beach? Also it was such a rare condition.

Meg in Home and Away - this made teenage death seem so real

Chris in Stand By Me - a bad boy made good surely he was due good karma and a long life?

Luke and Han in Star Wars - just done for shock value

No one ever dies of dementia in films or tv!

3catsandcounting Yes so much to Wilson!! I was devastated when he was killed off Sad

And another one here who was so annoyed at Nigel falling off the roof that I stopped listening to the bloody Archers...

PipeTheFuckDown · 08/09/2018 09:44

“Not Penny’s boat” - Charlie from LOST

“Why can’t I stay?” - Fred From Angel

RE Cordelia - the actress didn’t tell Whedon for months, he had to rapidly rewrite the last third of S4 due to this, ruined the story line and tbh S4 was horrendous due to it.

Lexi, George and Sloane from Greys.

Patrick Dempsey was an asshat and extremely difficult to work with, hence his absence in that season. I wasn’t a fan, he treated Meredith like shit all the time.

“I am a leaf on the wind, watch how I -“ Wash from Firefly

Also Will from Good Wife

Bobby in Supernatural

TwoBlueShoes · 08/09/2018 09:44

Not killed off obviously, but my mum is still devastated by Tim Wonnacott's departure from Bargain Hunt. 😂

Poor mum!

PipeTheFuckDown · 08/09/2018 09:48

Carl should have died ages ago! Got shot in the stomach and the eye and survived?! Without trained surgeons and sterile conditions? Nah.

Lori was an arse but her death really bothered me.

Rita in Dexter - I’d just had a baby when this season was on TV. Absolute mess I was.

Deb in Dexter - wtf?! The way that last season went was just Confused

TwoBlueShoes · 08/09/2018 09:51

George's death in Grey's was horrible, even though they obviously ripped it off from Gant's death in ER which was SO much better written.

Grey's has/had a great cast but the writing is just dire. Everyone talks in the same way, just repeating themselves endlessly.

Mark Greene's death was so sad in ER. I still remember that ukulele version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow 😢

BiscuitMachine · 08/09/2018 09:53

Mike in Breaking Bad - he was the best character. What should have actually happened was Mike should have shot Walt at that point, and that would have been a much more satisfying end to the whole thing.

I agree Omar in The Wire but it had to happen really.

alienor13 · 08/09/2018 10:01

Will in FlambardsConfused
Stefan in Vampire diaries and what do you mean Hayley is dead? 😮

ChubbyMummy12 · 08/09/2018 10:01

Glenn from TWD,
Dobby😢
Mike on desperate housewifes

@TwoBlueShoes I still tear up when I hear that version! There are ER reruns on CBS Drama, and they are currently showing season 6, so it won't be too long before they rerun Mark's death. It was so sad!

MipMipMip · 08/09/2018 10:23

Lem in The Shield.

Bobby and Opie in Sons of Anarchy (they had a patch for Opie - but why did only Jax and Happy wear it? Happy barely knew him!)

Wilson from Castaway. Grin

BirdsAndBlips · 08/09/2018 10:24

Wetdog you're right but still, it was quite a few years between that sea scene and his comeback and I was heartbroken at the time, I had a massive crush on him

RedDwarves · 08/09/2018 10:25

Chris in Stand By Me

Gets me every time.

Sister Evangelina in Call the Midwife.

RedDwarves · 08/09/2018 10:26

Oh, also agree with Fred Weasley, and my other one is Lupin. Hate that it is effectively airbrushed out of the films, but hate that he died at all.

PoisonousSmurf · 08/09/2018 10:28

Loki!

shirleyschmidt · 08/09/2018 10:29

Haha Joffrey was an evil little bastard BUT he was a great villain, and so many of his actions propelled the story/other characters on. Also miss Tywin for the same reasons GrinIt's not GOT without the villains!

RedDwarves · 08/09/2018 10:29

Oh and my last one is Dan Scott from One Tree Hill. A very flawed character, but essential to the storyline from very first episode, and he truly redeems himself by the end.

Gazelda · 08/09/2018 10:32

Oh God, Ruth! Bloody sacrilege.
And Quinn. Even DH shed a tear at that one.
Watching reruns of ER at the moment and dreading Lucy and Mark. (But quite looking forward to Romano's incident Blush)

Fooferella · 08/09/2018 10:32

I've only read the first 4 posts of this thread and just found out that Luke Skywalker dies in Star Wars and Billy Lloyd-Foxe dies in Jolly Cooper novels. WTF people! This thread needs reported and name changed to say it contains spoilers!!!! Wahhhhh

Fooferella · 08/09/2018 10:33

Jilly obvs, not Jolly

TerfedOff · 08/09/2018 10:33

Ned Stark in Game of Thrones.

In fact most of them from GoT.

TerfedOff · 08/09/2018 10:34

From Harry Potter Sirius Black.

Cattenberg · 08/09/2018 10:35

OK, this might sound odd, but Letitia Cropley in The Vicar of Dibley. Her death wasn't necessary for the plot, and the programme just didn't work as well after that. The sex ratio was all wrong.

PhilomenaButterfly · 08/09/2018 10:41

Hedwig another one of the many Harry Potter deaths to cry about. Worse because she's an animal, I think.

Morethanthisprovincallife · 08/09/2018 10:46

Alison in the affair.

Pointless, ridiculous. Miserable. Ruined the whole series for me
