Trouser recommendations for a toddler!

Please help, I’ve tried all sorts and cannot get trousers to fit 22 month old DS. He is quite tall, I don’t think skinny, and yet everything falls down on him! He is wearing 12-18 month joggers at the minute which are far too short but do stay up.

I ideally need some with the buttons inside that can adjust the waist- anyone seen them anywhere recently?

What about leggings, a bit tighter fitting?

amymel2016 · 07/09/2018 21:20

I’d go for leggings, my son lives in them. M&S do great ones as do H&M and Zara

SleepyMcEdie · 07/09/2018 21:20

Drspouse- yes some leggings would be useful but I don’t see them sold for boys often. I’ve tried Next ones and couldn’t get a good fit. Baggy in all the wrong places.

Next trousers tend to have buttons inside so you can adjust the waist or Maxomorra ribs are great but not to everyone’s taste.

Frugi parsnip pants. Absolute genius. My 20 month daughter is currently wearing a pair of 6-12 months she's been in for a year (waist and leg cuffs unrolled) and a pair of (brand new) 18-24 (waist and leg cuffs rolled up and legs are baggy). https://www.welovefrugi.com/baby-toddler-clothes/trousers-dungarees-shorts/parsnippantss_7.htm

mikeTV · 07/09/2018 21:24

We have H&M joggers and I've put extra elastic in to keep them up. The adjustable ones are hard to come across.

SoftSheen · 07/09/2018 21:24

Polarn O. Pyret do lots of boys/unisex leggings and adjustable trousers, that tend to fit tall, slender children very well. (Buy in a sale, they are not the cheapest, but wash and wear very well, and can be handed down to other children).

Pressuredrip · 07/09/2018 21:25

My toddler son wears either leggings or rompers/dungarees made of legging material. I get most of them from Instagram shops. There are hundreds of amazing shops and you'd be supporting small U.K. business. I don't have one myself so this isn't a stealth advert but PM me if you want to me name some shops to search for. I can usually get neutral coloured ones from H&M too.

H&M boys leggings

Pressuredrip · 07/09/2018 21:26

I disagree with frugi parsnips. They only got my chubby one. Fell down on the others.

Lucked · 07/09/2018 21:27

more H&m

In general H&M and zara are good for slim builds.

HeyMicky · 07/09/2018 21:28

Primark, maybe surprisingly, do adjustable waists. Also Vertbaudet are good for kids with no bum

VioletWillow · 07/09/2018 21:29

Vertbaudet have slim fitting (on the waist) trousers, I think iirc they have three waist sizes for each age. They have the band in the waist you can adjust too. They are always good for my slim jims, I have to take in waists all the time. Frugi parsnip pants as mentioned above are awesome. Love those.

SleepyMcEdie · 07/09/2018 21:30

HeyMickey- I got all his shorts from Primark as they had adjustable waists so will have a look for trousers.

Thanks everyone. Shopping tomorrow so will look for some H&M leggings for the childminders and try Primark or Next for adjustable trousers.

He has some lovely 2 piece sets from a Boden and Joules that he just hasn’t had the wear of because the tops fit him a year before the bottoms do!

Nanasueathome · 07/09/2018 21:31

Boden have elasticated waist and a drawstring

drspouse · 07/09/2018 21:38

You know his willy won't fall off if you buy from the girls' section.
I like frills and pink as little as the next person but find lots of non-pink non-frilly leggings in the girls section. He can't read yet.

user1471459936 · 07/09/2018 21:52

Asda leggings are good. They have some that aren't pink and frilly in the girl section.

doddlebobs · 07/09/2018 22:29

@Pressuredrip my daughter is not "chubby" thank you very much. She's one year old. She's healthy, happy and strong not to mention loved and respected. You might want to reconsider your attitude towards body image examples for your own kids.

Frolicacid · 07/09/2018 22:44

We have the same problem. Leggings are your friend. Plenty of ‘jegging’ types in the girls section that look fine (just like jeans) for boys if gendered stuff is important to you.

LookImAHooman · 07/09/2018 22:49

Gap comes up quite narrow. Their jeggings (toddler girl section) are fantastic for little rakes.

FreeButtonBee · 07/09/2018 22:56

I just fold the fabric over at the back of the waist and put some stitches in. Have to do that for all my boys.

DrWhy · 08/09/2018 06:48

Blade and Rose do great leggings for boys, not sure what size they go up to though.
I love Frugi but definitely wouldn’t recommend the parsnips for a skinny toddler, they are designed to go over cloth nappies so very big in the bum.

SleepyMcEdie · 08/09/2018 09:18

Thanks everyone, lots of options there for me to try!

Getting DS to try on in a shop is a nightmare so we have wardrobes full of ill fitting clothes as I buy them then he never wears them!

OP posts:
drspouse · 09/09/2018 10:11

Why not take them back? We are masters at buying several sizes and taking them back!
