Beavers camp kit list

Hi,
It is my DS6 first time away at beaver/cub/scout camp next weekend. He is so excited but I am a bit nervous about him being away. It is for 2 nights.

Can anyone tell me what I should send in his bag with him? They don't meet until Monday and I want to go and buy things that he might need this week. Thanks

Sleeping bag
Roll mat
Clothes - shorts as they dry quicker and bottoms don’t get wet.
Toothbrush and paste.
If outside raincoat

Don’t expect him to wash!

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 05/09/2018 19:25

Pyjamas
Jumper

Our lot ask for a cake donation
Any medications given to leader

Sparklyfee · 05/09/2018 19:27

Thanks, I wouldn't have thought of a roll mat - I don't camp Grin

Torch and spare batteries
A few sweets in a plastic box
Wellies/spare old trainers
Travel pillow

DaphneFanshaw · 05/09/2018 19:28

Yes, the official camp list always includes soap and a flannel but they always come home unused.
Extra clothing is a good idea.
Our leaders are quite chilled out and let them take sweets to eat in their tents, i don't know if that's the sort of thing you want to do.

Neolara · 05/09/2018 19:29

Waterproof trousers and coat. Walking boots. Small backpack. Torch.

He will have a brilliant time!

Growingboys · 05/09/2018 19:29

Sweets for a midnight feast

Cleanermaidcook · 05/09/2018 19:30

Track suit bottoms - not jeans, t-shirts, jumper, pj's, plenty underwear, socks, waterproof trousers and jacket, hiking boots and trainers, toiletries they won't use but have to have.
Torch, spare batteries, water bottle, sleeping bag, sleeping mat if camping outside, pillow, bin bag for dirty kit, sweets if allowed, spending money usually given to leader, teddy bear, book to read in evening.
Sometimes there's a theme and they ask for dress up outfit.
Can't think of anything else.

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 05/09/2018 19:31

Blanket!!!

For if they have a campfire singsong and extra layer over sleeping bag.
And plastic bags for wet/smelly stuff.

Sparklyfee · 05/09/2018 19:34

Wow, I'm such a novice at this! Would not have thought of a torch! Yes, I'll put sweets in if allowed to.

For Beavers they'll probably be in a hall rather than tents, I would have thought? So probably no need for a roll mat. Check before you go and buy one!

Furx · 05/09/2018 19:36

Id wait for the official kit list.

Out lot are super organised and game us a list right down the number of socks required.

They were dead right too!

Sparklyfee · 05/09/2018 19:37

Thanks for the tip. It is a district camp and scouts cubs and beavers are going. Not sure on sleeping arrangements though, I hope the beavers are in a hall! He seems so little to be going off....but I know he'll love it

Two blankets - one to go under him, one to go over!

Sparklyfee · 05/09/2018 19:40

He's going to need a bigger bag! Grin

I find holdhalls better than rucksack because everything in rucksack gets stacked so when they get something from the bottom everything else gets pulled up with it. Holdhall sips up across so they can more easily see and reach what they're trying to get.

Castleonacloud · 05/09/2018 19:47

I thought Beavers were only allowed to camp indoors and be away for a maximum of 24hrs? Or at least they were when I was a leader a couple of years ago.

For a kit list:
Uniform
Underwear
Coat - ideally waterproof (surprising how many kids turn up at camp with no coat)
Spare trainers or wellies
Jumper(s)
T-shirt(s)
Shorts/tracksuit bottoms
Pjs
Cuddly toy
Torch (and batteries)
Sweets (small pack, if allowed, many groups provide enough treats)
Pillow
Rollmat (even indoors if sleeping on a floor you’ll need one)
Sleeping bag (and possibly blanket)
Wash kit (toothbrush, facecloth and soap & towel).

Pack all kit in a rucksack or hold-all, not suitcase.

Hope he (and you) has a fab time

Smile
GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 05/09/2018 19:48

Wouldn’t have thought of a torch??? Really?! 😱😱😱😂😂😂

Sparklyfee · 05/09/2018 19:51

Thank you. I'll get him a holdall. It will be much easier for him to find things.

Maybe they are sleeping inside, that's reassuring. It is definitely a 2 night camp though. I'd rather he eased (me) in with one night to start with but he really wants to go so I'm not going to hold him back!

Nope BlushBlushBlush It wouldn't have crossed my mind!!! Haha

AnnaBegins · 05/09/2018 19:58

Hope he has fun!

Castleonacloud beavers can now camp properly! There's been a big PR exercise to get the message out, and a nationwide beaver "damboree" camp. The kids are loving it!

Castleonacloud · 05/09/2018 20:02

Anna - thanks for the heads up, it’s been a couple of years, so am out of the loop now 🙂

Hattifattner · 05/09/2018 20:05

Damboree!!! Grin Love it!

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 05/09/2018 20:11

Damboree Brilliant!Grin

Sparklyfee · 05/09/2018 20:18

Oh man. So he's in a tent probably then (sprinting out to buy rollmat and torch)
