Public witch hunts always seem to be against women.

I don't live in the UK any more, but even from here in Spain I have seen the Coleen Nolan and Kim Woodburn situation and now the Roxanne Pallett Big Brother scenario.

I'm not defending the actions in either situation, I don't think either of them behaved well (or KW, but I know a lot of people don't agree there), and they both deserve a hard time, but the fierceness of the public feeling and vitriol towards these women is basically like an old fashioned witch hunt with people baying for blood. I mean, they haven't done anything in comparison with the many high-profile men who've abused children, for example, but the public hatred seems on par or even higher.

Why is it that women in the public eye seem to be subjected to this witch hunt like public outpouring of rage than men? I honestly don't remember a man from reality TV being subjected to this, or maybe there has and I just don't remember?

Well I think its fair to say that Roxanne Pallet would've caused a 'witch hunt' as you put it against Ryan Thomas if she had her way.

Unfortunately for her, everything was on film.

Slapbetcommissioner · 05/09/2018 18:40

I have been thinking this myself OP.

expatinspain · 05/09/2018 19:11

stars So is that a justification? Do two wrongs make a right? To be honest, I don't think it would have been a witch hunt against him anyway. Men always have plenty of other men on their side, backing them up. Just look at Brock Turner case in the states, that was cut and dry, but he had plenty of support.

When will people say enough? Do they want to destroy Roxanne, end Coleen's career? What? When will it end and again, where are the cases where this has happened to men?
I've seen men behaving terribly in reality programmes, but no backlash to this level.

Can you give us some examples from previous CBB's please expatinspain? I'm not saying I disagree, I'd just be interested in who you're thinking of.

Mumberjack · 05/09/2018 19:19

It is disportionate how much airtime they’ve given to Roxanne P about her false accusations compared to coverage of instances where a male has actually assaulted a female. Now any other woman coming forward about abuse will get the ‘ah well what about that Roxanne’ rebuttal.

StarsMoonSun · 05/09/2018 19:30

I'm not justifying it OP. Although, i think in the case with RP, people are angry that not only does she seem to 'have form' for accusing others of abuse, but by her latest false accusations she is also making a mockery out of genuine dv victims.

BoneyBackJefferson · 05/09/2018 19:38

I wonder how much of this is down to people having to face their own prejudice.

RP has falsely accused one person with damning video evidence and others are coming out of the #metoo woodwork.

and loose women has always been a low brow program where they have bullied various vulnerable people, very mean girls.

But then I can remember various witch hunts against men.

BoneyBackJefferson · 05/09/2018 19:44

I also wonder how much of your witch hunt is other people that RP has abused coming forward after the publicity.

50Running50 · 05/09/2018 19:45

Well Roxanne tried to turn the tables to cause a Male 'witch hunt'

So sorry she failed op!!

50Running50 · 05/09/2018 19:47

Christopher biggin ..... chucked out

expatinspain · 05/09/2018 19:47

Here are some examples from previous BB (see the UK ones only), but thinking of reality TV in general. Seen some really nasty bullying behaviour by Dennis Wise on I'm a Celebrity, for example, which was briefly noted and then forgotten. Females who have come across as aggressive or bullies are slaughtered by the media and the public. There always seems to be a heightened reaction.

I do think that if people choose to put themselves in the public eye, then to a certain extent they're setting themselves up as targets. OP is citing CN, KW and Roxanne P. Men get it as well though - I don't watch reality TV, but men who are subject to vitriol for no reason - Cliff Richard, Bill Roache - anyone (m or f) who catches the attention of the public.

StoorieHoose · 05/09/2018 19:53

Nasty Nick was Public Enemy number one and he only had a pencil in Big Brother. He was HATED!!

Harleypuppy · 05/09/2018 19:53

No. When Joanna Yeates was murdered, the media and people went crazy persecuting the landlord who was rather eccentric, rather than the actual murderer.

StoorieHoose · 05/09/2018 19:56

To be fair Roxannes career should be destroyed. Awful lying attention seeking woman

noblegiraffe · 05/09/2018 19:56

Toby Young would disagree with you, OP.

50Running50 · 05/09/2018 19:59

Op you seem to be clutching at straws a bit here.....

Sakura7 · 05/09/2018 20:05

Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross spring to mind. It's forgotten about now but was pretty intense at the time.

expatinspain · 05/09/2018 20:07

50 No, I'm not 'clutching at straws', I'm expressing my opinion that I don't think men generally get vilified in the same way women do for behaviour equal or worse.

OP posts:
50Running50 · 05/09/2018 20:09

Thank god for rational, unbiased posters! All these examples.... clutching at straws op!!

50Running50 · 05/09/2018 20:09

Oh yes sakura had forgotten the whole Russel Brand thing

expatinspain · 05/09/2018 20:13

sakura Yes, I remember that, but ultimately their careers are ok now.

Nasty Nick is an example, I'd forgotten about that as it was ages ago, the hatred against him was certainly on par with Roxanne.

OP posts:
BoneyBackJefferson · 05/09/2018 20:16

Angus Deayton lost his job due to allegations.

50Running50 · 05/09/2018 20:29

Ken morleys career never really recovered either did it? He was booted out swiftly

Santaclarita · 05/09/2018 20:32

So should we let them get away with bullying and false allegations just because they are women?
