Public witch hunts always seem to be against women.

I don't live in the UK any more, but even from here in Spain I have seen the Coleen Nolan and Kim Woodburn situation and now the Roxanne Pallett Big Brother scenario.

I'm not defending the actions in either situation, I don't think either of them behaved well (or KW, but I know a lot of people don't agree there), and they both deserve a hard time, but the fierceness of the public feeling and vitriol towards these women is basically like an old fashioned witch hunt with people baying for blood. I mean, they haven't done anything in comparison with the many high-profile men who've abused children, for example, but the public hatred seems on par or even higher.

Why is it that women in the public eye seem to be subjected to this witch hunt like public outpouring of rage than men? I honestly don't remember a man from reality TV being subjected to this, or maybe there has and I just don't remember?

boneybackjackson Of course there are always going to be examples of people, men and women, who have lost their jobs because of 'trial by media'.

What I'm talking about is the anger and hatred directed specifically by the public towards these women. Roxanne is clearly a complete nightmare who has manipulated people and behaved badly time and time again, but what separates the people who are piling on calling her every name under the sun and practically baying for blood from her terrible behaviour. Newspaper headlines about her being 'The most hated woman in Britain' kind of say it all.

Getting away from Roxanne, the Coleen Nolan situation is directly comparable to what happened in the jungle with Dennis Wise. He behaved so much worse and there was barely a murmur about it and was forgotten about in five mins.

The public reaction just seems more extreme

when it's a woman. Just looking at BB, I think of the reactions towards Charlie, Grace & Makosi. It seemed more personal and hateful than against the blokes, apart from Nick.

Grace and Makosi were horrific bitches and they were treated no different to Federico or Victor and Jason

Although Angus Deaytons actions were not in line with the morals that everyone would like to claim that they have, he lost his job for consensual sex and drugs.

A huge amount of people wrote in, papers vilified him and he lost his job. This in inline with your witch hunt theory. Even more so as he has done less wrong that RP and CN who have both shown bullying and abusive traits.

If you are going to use CN she also has a huge amount of support as well, depending on what rags you read.

As for Dennis Wise I don't know because I don't watch this sort of rubbish.

But you would be better off trying to prove your point against other posters with examples of people that are better examples than mine.

santaclarita Where did I say we should let them get away with anything because they are women? My thread is simply that it seems, in my opinion, that women get vilified
more strongly by the public than men. Absolutely women should be held accountable for their actions, as should men. It just seems to me, that in many situations, the public are more unforgiving towards women.

You should read Toby Young’s whiny self-pitying article about his public humiliation (he had to step down from 5 positions). He reckons he was a target because he’s a white tory heterosexual cis-gendered male.

Maybe it’s just because these people are arseholes?

RP deserves everything she gets. She's a disgrace to abused women and has caused untold damage.

Witchunt is appropriate for her.

I'm trying to think of a case in the history of reality TV where a male has blatantly set out to destroy the reputation, character, career and life of a female? Umm, yep - no there aren't any, so perhaps why there wasn't a witch hunt over it.
