Where do you buy your nice toddler clothes from?

Dd is 2 and starts play School next week. She currently wears dresses and tights from Boden and jojo maman Bebe. She’s only ever worn dresses and doesn’t own leggings/trousers. But I’m guessing they will be better for play School?

Where do you buy them from? What sort of things do you put on them?

I know this sounds ridiculous 🙈 she’s my last baby and Iv enjoyed dressing her up 😂🙈

For play school I use Primark or h and m. Cheap leggings and tops in nice colours are perfect for getting covered in food and paint.

SharkSave · 05/09/2018 11:36

Leggings or shorts and t-shirts usually from supermarkets. Sainsbury's wash well

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 05/09/2018 11:38

Ahhh I forgot about Sainsbury’s! I love their clothes.

I’v been looking at Zara, are they good? H&m are my fave for the older two so shall look for her!

I wouldn't spend too much money on clothes for nursery as they can get quite messy whilst there and get stained. Painting, drawing, play doh, outside play with mud kitchen etc. I've made mistake of sending them in nice quite pricey clothes for them to get home and be stained :(

LRDtheFeministDragon · 05/09/2018 11:43

H&M does surprisingly great boys' clothes (yes, I know you have a girl, but obviously they are nice for both), with nice trousers and fantastic button-down shirts if you like her looking 'smart'. John Lewis do good trousers too. Tu at Sainsbury's currently has these very cute little leggings with three tiny buttons at the ankle, which I think look great.

My DD is 17 months and she has a few dresses. Something nice for running around in is a tunic and leggings. But mostly she wears little check shirts and trousers. My favourite pair are John Lewis and have a stripy lining which you turn up, and they have those strip-and-button fastenings so you can keep the turn-up in place. I find it ridiculously cute.

Nutmeg at Morrisons sometimes has really good stuff too - she's got a gorgeous oatmeal-colour granddad cardie from there, and some nice plain-colour t shirts that are very soft.

Sandstormbrewing · 05/09/2018 11:45

I stopped buying nice clothes for nursery. They come back stained and ruined most of the time.

So now I buy supermarket and primark stuff for nursery and leave the good stuff for at home.

cactusplant · 05/09/2018 11:46

Gap- they wash amazing and do 40% off everything every 3 weeks or so

Mumof3girlssoontobe4 · 05/09/2018 11:47

Primark and Asda have really nice stuff in most of the time, if it's for nursery then cheaper the better as they will get covered in pen/paints even with aprons on. I have 3 girls, two in primary school and one at nursery and all of them at some point have came home covered in pen or paint which doesn't always wash out. So at least if thats the case you haven't ruined any expensive clothes

LRDtheFeministDragon · 05/09/2018 11:47

In fact, since she is asleep, here. Morrisons cardie, H&M shirt, and John Lewis trousers. She'll go to nursery in an hour in this lot and we've never had an issue with stuff getting damaged.

And if she's always been in tights, you need socks - again, John Lewis are really good quality and don't go hard and shrink; Next are cheaper but do shrink in the end. Depends how fast her feet are growing.

brokenharbour · 05/09/2018 11:53

Next usually, they often do 3 for 2 deals. Everything gets destroyed or lost so no pony spending a lot.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 05/09/2018 11:56

Frugi parsnips are really nice, but watch out for them if you have a relatively skinny toddler - they fall off mine, which is annoying. Gorgeous colours and designs, though.

Firenight · 05/09/2018 11:58

Cheaper dresses from H&M with either tights or leggings as preferred. My girl (now 4) loves her dresses and prefers to wear them unless I can persuade her it’s totally impractical- she can climb and play easily in a dress though so I let her go with it mostly.

Dowser · 05/09/2018 12:00

My daughter loved Frugi clothes
They have a good sale

kaytee87 · 05/09/2018 12:02

JoJo sells lots of leggings and dungarees for girls.

MotherWol · 05/09/2018 12:04

You really don't want to send her to nursery in nice clothes - between the messy play, painting and mealtimes it's very likely that clothes will get stained. I've found the most cost-effective solution is to buy bundles of used clothes on eBay and in charity shops. DD (2.5) is in nursery full-time and her nursery wardrobe is:
10 t-shirts
7-10 pairs of leggings/jeans/joggers
1 jumper
1 zip hoodie or cardigan
shoes: trainers/canvas Doodle type shoes (Asda)

For summer add a few pairs of shorts or light cotton dresses and a pair of crocs. For winter, add coat and wellies.

Honestly, don't invest too much money or emotion in this - it'll only hurt more when you end up throwing paint-stained clothes away.

kaytee87 · 05/09/2018 12:24

Debenhams has a great selection of boys clothes so they probably have lots of girls stuff too.

foxyfemke · 05/09/2018 12:54

My 3 year old son always comes home filthy, especially in summer. Cheap stuff is best for this as I don't really care if it gets ruined. H&M, Next or if I'm in the UK I will stock up on supermarket basic clothes.

sickmumma · 05/09/2018 13:18

I tend to buy my daughter a lot of next, zara and gap. I just send her in the older stuff for nursery and don't care if it comes back marked.

Scotinoz · 05/09/2018 13:18

My 3 year old ruins everything she wears to preschool 😩 I've started buying bundles from selling groups for nursery!

CAAKE · 05/09/2018 15:33

John Lewis own brand are good quality basics.

Sparrowlegs248 · 05/09/2018 15:35

My son gets filthy and wet at pre school so he wear joggers, t shirts, tops mostly from Sainsbury. They have free access to outside and paint.

Juanbablo · 05/09/2018 16:20

For nursery I go for cheaper clothes like ones from H&M. Their basics range are fab for preschool.

pastaandpestoagain · 05/09/2018 16:28

Don't send to nursery in anything you care about it will get trashed, cheap and cheerful supermarket clothes, ideally in the sale are the way to go.
