Facebook local page has been going mental. Do you want screenshots?

Would I have to remove everyone's Facebook names?

Amazing. Greedy non locals, taking the parking from hard working locals!

Local pages always end up like this!

BuffyBee · 05/09/2018 08:47

Funny! But do we still don't know who owns the damn Lane, we need proof, we need to see the Deeds! 😂

Oldraver · 05/09/2018 08:50

Parking is a bit of a nightmare there. We use the butchers and have recently had to abandon a trip due to not finding a space

pickles184 · 05/09/2018 08:51

I am wondering whether some of the people on that discussion who are refusing to accept the lane ownership without seeing the deeds have the same attitude to all privately owned land..

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 05/09/2018 09:07

Gah I don’t have FB so can only see Pete’s initial post and none of the local outrage.

BuffyBee · 05/09/2018 09:11

Can't blame them really pickles, I have experience of people laying claim to parking and years later it being found not to be true.
I owned a Wine Bar in the Town Centre, across the Road was a Carpet Shop (rented as we discovered) with a big plot of land behind it. Next door to it was an Italian Restaurant, who always claimed to own the land and chased people off from parking there for years. The Italian kindly let the Carpet Shop use a corner to park their delivery van.
The Carpet Shop closed and my Ds made enquiries about opening a business there, the Land belonged to the Landlord of the Carpet Shop.
Crazy, I know!

I used to live in a village that lm pretty sure Royston Vasey was based on and as the newcomer l hated the attitude of some locals that they had more rights to everything from the air we breathed there to every last unrestricted parking space. But l find myself strangely on the side of the long term locals on this one.
Btw what happened to the right of way comments they seem to have just fizzle out, l hope they pursue that angle as l always thought that if people had walked over land for so many years it became a right of way as we had a similar argument in my own 'Royston Vasey' and the new landowner had to concede in the end.
They ought to involve the Ramblers Association they were great helping with ours and they absolutely love fighting new landowners who block off established walking routes.
Not sure if any of that would apply or help with the parking but at least people could still walk through.

LilahTheTiger · 05/09/2018 09:25

DP is hoping they give poor Pete a permit. If only to annoy Richard.

Are all local FB groups this awesome? My area doesn't have one Envy

I'm on 'team non-cottage owners'. I'd park there, and the onus IS on them to prove it's not public.
In fact, I have a fair few spots that locals try to insinuate are private with barely legal methods but I know the law, and find much amusement in parking in these prized places 😈

Hobbes8 · 05/09/2018 11:11

I really want to visit the old Christmas shop they’re all banging on about.

SuburbanCrofter · 05/09/2018 11:48

Excellent work OP, although could you draw us a map, including parallel lane, Christmas Shop and cobbles to avoid confusion? Grin

I almost clicked 'like' on the deranged League of Gentlemen post until I realised that I am not from Lechlade, should be not reading the post and none of this is any of my business Grin

Imnotacelebgetmeouttahere · 05/09/2018 12:59

Christmas shop lady has chimed in... I might need to become a member to follow further goings'on Grin

I always park at the Riverside park over the bridge and walk in @oldraver

SassitudeandSparkle · 05/09/2018 13:51

As soon as I saw a Christmas Shop mentioned, I thought it must be Lechlade Grin

Someone has to set one up, NewUserNameTime ... grin

You'd need to recruit the appropriate members, though. Reasonable people need not apply.

Lweji · 05/09/2018 14:13

Parking does seem to be a problem in the town.

Lovely place BUT......I will NOT visit Lechlade again until the the car parks are no longer allowed to be run by and line the pockets of such corrupt companies as Minster Baywatch and I WILL be taking my case to Watchdog! Absolutely appalled!

Also, who is Mike Middleton? Any relation?

DGRossetti · 05/09/2018 14:37

corrupt companies as Minster Baywatch

Now there's a programme just calling out to be made.

Shinesweetfreedom · 05/09/2018 14:48

Wow

Isn't it? Grin

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 05/09/2018 15:22

Local FB pages are bloody amazing! Ours went mental last week cos' some idiot complained that the clock chimes were too loud!

OhNoGroken · 05/09/2018 15:25

I loved that! Thanks OP!

theunsure · 05/09/2018 15:36

I had to stop myself from googling the land registry myself just now. Far too heavily invested.

Great thread OP!

viques · 05/09/2018 15:38

I want to live on Christmas Shop Lane. the first thing I would do is plant a huge holly tree and decorate it with shelf elves suspended by their scrawny little necks.
