Ok so I will kick this off. I clearly did not pay attention during sex ed cos here I am mid 30s just finding this out.

Your pee and your period come out of 2 different bits.

Astonished when I found this out today reading reviews on moon cups.

Anyone got any to add?

OP posts:
Loukou · 04/09/2018 21:24

Cleopatra lived closer in time to the invention of Snapchat than to the construction of the Great Pyramid at Giza

Loukou · 04/09/2018 21:24

The Stegosaurus was older to the Tyrannosaurus rex than the T. rex is to us

Loukou · 04/09/2018 21:25

Woolly mammoths were still alive when the Great Pyramid at Giza was built.

DamnWhyAreAllTheUsernamesTaken · 04/09/2018 21:26

OMG at the table with 3 legs!!! Mind blowing stuff

Winniewins · 04/09/2018 21:28

Betty White is older than sliced bread. She was born 1922 but sliced bread wasn't produced commercially until 1928

TreasureInMyTummy · 04/09/2018 21:29

Eek so it wasn't until my late late twenties that I realised men don't use toilet paper when they have a wee ( it still seems weird that it's true)

But mind blown fact has to be something I read the other day that percentages are the same when swapped around so 60% of 50 is the same as 50% of 60 - mind blown

Please note I'm trusting the above fact is true I've not fully tested it.

Winniewins · 04/09/2018 21:30

Another couple from Buzzfeed-
The Eiffel Tower was inaugurated the same year as Nintendo was founded!!!

Anne Frank and Martin Luther King were born in the same year

WingsofNylon · 04/09/2018 21:30

I wasn't brought up in the UK so names here surprised me. Aged 15 I found out Bill was short for William and I thought they were pulling my leg. I still don't believe that Harry is short for Henry. I just refuse to believe such rubbish.

OP don't let people make you feel bad. I can't feel exactly where my owe comes from and when I clench for a wee I just clench everything. Also I still consider them both to have the same ultimate opening. Two rivers into the same estuary is what it feel like to me rather than very distinct holes.

therealimposter · 04/09/2018 21:31

My little known fact is that MNers up and down the country are now trying out reversing percentages to see if it is true or not.

confuddeledconfuddel · 04/09/2018 21:32

@Alwaystired122 that's brilliant - I can't imagine what it would be like to find out a unicorn is real Grin it must have been some shock Grin

My fact is sad but it blew my mind

Elephants that die naturally - they starve to death. When their last tooth falls out they take themselves away to die Sad

therealimposter · 04/09/2018 21:33

and the other elephants know and grieve for them.

I think that people know when they are about to die, assuming it's not in an accident of course. My grandmother did, I'm certain of it.

blamethecat · 04/09/2018 21:36

While looking at ds handwriting sheet I realised alphabet is from alpha beta. (There are a couple of versions of origin if you check).

CigarsofthePharoahs · 04/09/2018 21:39

In a different vein...
Were it not for some astounding maths by Michael Minovitch and a cosmic coincide, the Voyager probes would never have happened and we'd know very little about the solar system beyond Saturn.
There won't be another planetary alignment like that for 176 years.
The latest discoveries from the Juno probe to Jupiter have been quite mind blowing too. I particularly like the images taken of Jupiter's poles.

NoIsACompleteAnswerSometimes · 04/09/2018 21:39

I thought the back windows of cars only opened half way due to safety reasons as well!

OutComeTheWolves · 04/09/2018 21:40

That there isn't a parachute under every seat on an aeroplane Blush. My dad told me this on my first ever flight abroad and I never thought to question it.

It only came to light in my thirties when going on holiday with my dh I mentioned that during the intro bit, it would be helpful if they actually told you how to use the parachute as that would probably come in handier than the life jackets. Oh how he laughed!

MadamBatty · 04/09/2018 21:40

Loukou have you been reading bored 🐼. That has blown my miind

helacells · 04/09/2018 21:41

Ok OP this has got to be a joke right? Nobody is that thick!

elQuintoConyo · 04/09/2018 21:43

Winnie that's brilliant Grin

Back in 1987, while reading the My First Period book the nurse had given me at school when i'd just started my periods, i learnt women have 3 holes in their pants. I don't remember anything from biology class. I learnt about sex via Shirley Conran and Jilly Cooper Grin

elQuintoConyo · 04/09/2018 21:46

Winnie that fact about Betty White is awesome!

therealimposter · 04/09/2018 21:46

I realised alphabet is from alpha beta.

Errm, yes. I already knew that of course maybe

Harleypuppy · 04/09/2018 21:46

That memory is more complex than just long term and short term. Also that neurotypical brains have more connections in the brain which is why they can access memory more flexibly. Also they can sift the relevant facts from a memory and store just those compared to an autistic brain which treats every fact with equal importance and stores the whole lot.
That there's such a thing as sensory integration. It is the brain being able to interpret all of the senses. This includes vestibular sense which is to do with balance and the one I didn't know about was proprioceptive sense. Which is knowing where your ears are etc.

CassandraCross · 04/09/2018 21:46

Orangutans can't swim.
The average life expectancy of a man in Russia is 55 years.

TheHobbitMum · 04/09/2018 21:47

I was shocked to learn that in the US if you work over 40hrs a week, all hours over the 40 have to be paid at 1.5 times the normal rate.
The US seems to have so few employment laws I was shocked to learn that they have this at least

NoArmaniNoPunani · 04/09/2018 21:48

I only found out birds have sex a couple of years ago

Kewqueue · 04/09/2018 21:55
