Actually, the wishes of the parent take precedence. If they have stated that their child is to be released to their 12 yo sibling that is what should happen.

The school can advise against it but they can’t actually stop it.

It would be ok at our school. Similar set up, senior school on site that finishes 15 minutes before the primary school.

As long as the 12 year old is on the agreed contacts list for that child, no problem.

Mumsnet at its best. Full range from "I'm a teacher/parent and no way eould schools let this happen" to "I'm a teacher and this always happens". Perhaps we all need to accept we don't know how every school works, and they all make their own rules on certain things.

Why are you surprised a lot of schools allow this? I myself have had to arrange it and like many other posters, nothing bad happened to my kids Confused

‘Mumsnet at its best’
One of the reasons I enjoy MN is the opportunity to have a peek into other people’s lives and experiences that are very different to my own, and think ‘Cor Blimey, really?’
And be assured that it is indeed so and always has been.

I’ve taught all over the country, and one thing that seems consistent is that each school has rules set in stone that are thought of as essential, and that the next school often doesn’t. Everything from planning expectations to behaviour to who collects children.

Totally agree JumblieGirl
