Saw Wicked yesterday for the first time. It was so incredible. Am desperate to see it again! Cant get the songs out of my head although the plot was nuts.

Definitely Hamilton, but before that I was lucky enough to see spring Awakening in New York in 2007, with the girl from glee as one of the leads before she made it big on tv, always wish I could go back and watch that over and over again! I also loved billy Elliot!

BillyAndTheSillies · 03/09/2018 22:37

Les Mis had me in tears from start to finish. I was blown away.
Was dreading going to see Wicked but actually really enjoyed it. I didn't think the songs were great, but thought the production was fantastic.
DH says Book Of Mormon.
The worst for me was Mamma Mia, couldn't wait for it to end.

Some of the songs in wicked were a bit shit. Bit the stagingand defying gravity just blew me away.

I loved guys and dolls, and then productions I’ve been involved in (am dram only) my faves have been Cabaret and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

mayathebee · 03/09/2018 22:53

Blood brothers has a special place in my heart because it was my first trip to the West End. I loved Wicked, Matilda and West Side Story. I loved the set and costumes for Lion King but not the actual play/music and I didn’t enjoy Miss Saigon or cabaret.

I would love to see Phantom and I’m adding a few to my ‘to see’ list after reading this thread.

kfh · 03/09/2018 22:55

Les mis is my all time favorite, but just saw six and that was amazing

Glaciferous · 03/09/2018 22:57

Fiddler on the Roof. Just haunting, and especially the part at the end when they all traipse off and you know what the future holds but they don't.

PoptartPoptart · 03/09/2018 23:08

Hamilton
Phantom
Les Mis
Miss Saigon
Wicked
Sunset Boulevard
Chicago
Starlight Express
Book of Mormon

Namechangeforhair · 03/09/2018 23:21

Wish i could afford to see them all! Les mis is great. Was over 30 years ago I saw it. Seen Joseph and Matilda as well. Lion King is next on the list as my son wants to see it.

Lion king and Matilda

NooNooHead · 03/09/2018 23:29

Les Mis and Phantom are joint first.
Miss Saigon, a very close second.
Buddy Holly was really good too, and I thoroughly enjoyed Joseph too.
I know it isn’t a London musical but Return to the Forbidden Planet is absolutely excellent, and each cast member so talented musically, playing about 3 different instruments each.
Starlight Express and Cats are brilliant shows in terms of their wow factor, although I didn’t rate the songs quite as highly.

I haven’t seen Caberet, Sunset Boulevard, Wicked or The Lion King, but I suspect most people would say go and see all of them. I am very ignorant though when it comes to Hamilton - I haven’t even heard of it! 😳🙄🤣

CoffeeCoffeeTea · 03/09/2018 23:31

Les Mis, even when I hear the songs on the radio I tear up!

BackforGood · 03/09/2018 23:32

West Side Story.
Do also love Fiddler on the Roof - so much humour, great story and some fab songs.

choirmumoftwo · 03/09/2018 23:36

Cannot stand Les Mis and dislike most Lloyd Webber musicals other than Jesus Christ Superstar and Cats.
Blown away by Hamilton and Wicked though. Hamilton especially is so unique.
Each to their own.

Belindabauer · 03/09/2018 23:40

My top 3:
Les Mis
Legally Blonde
Annie

pinkpolo · 04/09/2018 03:16

Hamilton.

I don't normally enjoy musicals, but this was incredible!

Idontmeanto · 04/09/2018 06:00

Hamilton is so original I almost can’t think of it as a musical. (Although what else could it possibly be?! It’s definately the best thing I’ve ever seen.)
Matilda and The Lion King were fun to take children to.

wineoclockthanks · 04/09/2018 06:59

Jesus Christ Superstar
West Side Story

SorrelForbes · 04/09/2018 07:04

So hard to choose but probably Guys and Dolls.

Have been lucky enough to see amazing productions like Pippin and Cabaret on Broadway and The Drowsy Chaperone and Anything Goes in the West End. Loved Merrily We Roll Along, Jersey Boys, Chicago, Gyspy, Fiddler too...

Sierra259 · 04/09/2018 07:11

Hamilton - saw it a few months ago and have been raving about it to everyone I know since! Blush Phantom was also amazing.

As a kid, Starlight Express because of the roller skating Grin

Lolly86 · 04/09/2018 07:16

Les Miserables is amazing

Sierra259 · 04/09/2018 07:17

@NooNooHead I'd forgotten about Return to the Forbidden Planet! We must have seen it about 4 times and drove my parents mad singing along to the soundtrack in the car.

PepperSteaks · 04/09/2018 07:18

Hamilton.
I’m obsessed. Can’t stop telling people how great it is! I went in February and I’m going again in March. I listen to the music most days. There’s not one dud song in it.

Quangot · 04/09/2018 08:35

Joseph and Cats

BellBookandCandle · 04/09/2018 08:42

Hamilton, without a doubt. Saw it in New York last December and in London in August. It is fantastic.

Love Hairspray , Little Shop and the Rocky Horror Show to.

Old style musicals, it's got to South Pacific or the Philadelphia Story/High Society or My Fair Lady.
