Any magical MN cures for nappy rash?

Weaning DD2 has caused diarrhoea and horrendous nappy rash, looks exactly the same as DS2 who has food allergies so I suspect we’re going to have another allergic baby oh joy

Anyway I cannot clear her nappy rash and it just keeps getting worse, it’s now bleeding when I clean her

Any magical MN tips that I wouldn’t ever have dreamed of?

I had to use a steroid cream on my baby last week. I’d speak to the HV or GP over the phone. If it’s as horrendous as you describe metanium won’t help.

Mummymummymummmeeeee · 02/09/2018 19:56

DS2 had 20-30 nappy changes a day for his first couple of months, he pooed constantly!, and had horrendous nappy rash. The only thing that really made it better was him getting a bit older and settling down to a more reasonable 12-15 pooey nappies a day. But during that couple of months we tried absolutely everything! We obviously only used water and not wipes for nappy changes. Metanium didn't help for him, still got worse while we used that, the best thing we found was the boots zinc and castor oil cream pasted on really thick, it's also quite cheap which is good because we got through a lot of it, lansinoh was the best thing we found before that but was getting expensive! If metanium doesn't work for you I think the boots nappy cream is definitely worth a try

Steroid cream also didn't really help when we tried it for DS2

Yellow metanium mixed with Vaseline .

Toddlerteaplease · 02/09/2018 20:04

A tube of metanuim, a tube of Vaseline and a tube of Orabase paste all mixed together. We used to use it on babies who'd had a stigma reversed as it alwayscaused horrendous sore bums.

LittleMissCantbebothered · 02/09/2018 20:09

Thrush cream - miracle cure!

WeShouldBeFriends · 02/09/2018 20:15

And obvious really but bare bum!

putputput · 02/09/2018 20:16

As much nappy free time as possible. Easier said than done but if you can do a day of playing in the garden where it gets a chance to fully dry out it works wonders.
Drying the whole area with hairdryer on a cool setting before applying any creams.

HurricaneHalle · 02/09/2018 20:26

Cooked camomile tea.

HurricaneHalle · 02/09/2018 20:26

Cooled m!!

butlerswharf · 02/09/2018 20:27

Another vote for the yellow metanium. Smile

Blankiefan · 02/09/2018 20:29

Another vote for yellow metanium. Amazing stuff.

DragonScales · 02/09/2018 20:31

Changing nappies immediately after a poo - don't let it sit against the skin

Lots of air time, so no nappy on and wait for a minute or two when doing nappy changes after you've wiped to really get the area dry

Metanium in a very thin (almost transparent) later

Breast milk

Socksandshoes · 02/09/2018 20:33

Metamium mixed with Vaseline.

When dds became really bad after an upset tummy, our gp prescribed timodine. It worked miracles.

PippilottaLongstocking · 02/09/2018 20:34

Clean with a cloth soaked in chamomile tea
Weleda calendula nappy cream
And if it clears up then use lanolin to protect the skin but it’s a prevention rather than a cure so not much use on its own to get rid of the rash

motortroll · 02/09/2018 20:52

Once it's clear I recommend plain talc. I know it's not the done thing but it's the only thing that kept my daughter clear, she was so bad all the time even in my trusty reusable nappies!! I just used to put a bit on my hand and run it over where cream would go.

Pineapplepassion · 02/09/2018 20:54

Nana's organics, google it great oils for excema too.

PragmaticWench · 02/09/2018 20:56

Whatever you do, do NOT use egg whites!! This is more likely to cause an egg allergy. We were warned by our consultant allergy specialist that they one theory of a cause of allergies is where broken skin is touched by food proteins. They don't know for certain yet but advise to wash hands thoroughly if your baby has eczema or nappy rash.

DeadButDelicious · 02/09/2018 20:57

Yellow metanium. Works a treat.

everycowandagain · 02/09/2018 21:02

I usually swear by yellow metanium and fresh air but when DS developed raw patches of skin and screamed with every nappy change/refused to sit down I took him to the GP for steroid cream that did the trick. I can still see the scars on his bum, poor boy.

NotAnotherHeffalump · 02/09/2018 21:03

I really think the only thing that properly clears is it no nappy days. Literary as much of the day as possible bare bummed. Easier when they don't move much and you can just set them on a towel, less easy when they move about and the whole house is a potential toilet! If you get a dry day you could always keep them out in the garden lots.

FuckyDuzz · 02/09/2018 21:08

Oh Thankyou so many more ideas and lots I’d never have thought of

To the people saying a steroid cream - she was prescribed a steroid for a patch on her face the other day but we never used it as antihistamines has cleared it, it’s Hydrocortisone, is this what they would prescribe for her bum? Or too strong?

We used lots of E45 nappy cream before we tried the steroid cream we were prescribed and it cleared things up almost overnight. Lots of nappy off time. Didn't need the steroid cream in the end so I'm not much help there.

NeepNeepNeep · 02/09/2018 21:14

Have you tried a different brand of nappy?

everycowandagain · 02/09/2018 21:16

Our steroid cream was Dactacort which was cortisone and antifungal I think.
