Any doctors around? Can you have a look at DH's knee please?

DH's knee started hurting a few days ago. No injury to it just started hurting when he moved it. Then over the last few days it's got more and more painful each day, plus hot to the touch.

He went to the doctors yesterday and they prescribed co-codamol, told him to get some ibuprofen and are sending him for blood tests as they think it might be arthritis. (He's only 28 so it's shit if it's that).

Yesterday it was just red on the knee cap but today it's like this. All of his knee is very hot

Is this OK? Or does it need looking at again? I'm worried about the redness spreading / infection.

Obviously it's Friday afternoon plus we go on holiday Monday so need to try to see someone quick if so.

He feels fine other than his knee. Did just take his temp with a known to be unreliable thermometer and it was 38. But as I say it's really not very reliable.

What's your feeling?
Thanks

Go to A&E. When DS has septic arthritis he was kept in for 9 days on iv antibiotics.

olympicsrock · 31/08/2018 19:16

The priority is fine. He will be seen with a couple of hours and either admitted or discharged within 4.

MrsKCastle · 31/08/2018 19:19

My DD had septic arthritis as a toddler. Just to echo what everyone else has said,it is a serious condition. Make sure your DS specifically mentions it to them.

I've told him when he's next seen he needs to say he's worried it could septic arthritis.

Help he is ok

AmazingGrace16 · 31/08/2018 19:35

Ah hope he's ok!

TomHardysBackpack · 31/08/2018 19:50

Glad he's been seen. Hope he recovers soon from whatever it is.

CuriosityDoor · 31/08/2018 21:11

How's he getting on OP?

GlitteryFluff · 31/08/2018 21:18

He's just walked through the door.
It's infected so he has anti biotics, but not septic luckily. He still has to have his blood test done when back from holiday to find out if it's arthritis. Hoping now he has the antibiotics the redness will go (and would be lovely if it stopped hurting and isn't arthritis!)
Thanks again everyone

Glad he went and had got treatment

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 31/08/2018 21:28

What is infected? If there's no actual wound, I mean?

redsummershoes · 31/08/2018 21:44

infection can get into bone/joint via the blood stream

musmusculus · 31/08/2018 22:19

Please make it known to the gp that didn’t even look at it. That’s outrageous. Glad hes on the mend now.

Collywobbles1984 · 31/08/2018 22:28

Please, please keep a close eye on it. My Mum had cellulitis that got shrugged off by a GP, she was dead from a PE 24 hours later! If he starts to feel unwell or short of breath, go STRAIGHT back!

redsummershoes · 31/08/2018 22:49

yes to keeping an eye on it.
I hope you have teavel insurance in case he needs to be seen sooner.
but I hope he recovers soon

Collywobbles1984 · 31/08/2018 22:56

Blimey that sounded really harsh and frightening, apologies OP! It probably is just a minor infection that will clear up no problem with antibiotics, but please be vigilant!

Purplefrogshoes · 31/08/2018 23:43

I had septic arthritis and nearly died ! I had to have multiple surgeries and I was left with a significant disability because of it! I have also just had a hip replacement at age 4O as a result

MrsMozart · 01/09/2018 10:18

How is he (and you) today?

GlitteryFluff · 01/09/2018 11:09

He's at work today, left before I woke up, so haven't seen it myself. He said it's still red. But he's only had two doses of the antibiotics. He'll be home around 1 so I'll have another look. He rubbed all the pen park off yesterday helpful so will be more difficult to tell if it's got worse or better.
