Any doctors around? Can you have a look at DH's knee please?

DH's knee started hurting a few days ago. No injury to it just started hurting when he moved it. Then over the last few days it's got more and more painful each day, plus hot to the touch.

He went to the doctors yesterday and they prescribed co-codamol, told him to get some ibuprofen and are sending him for blood tests as they think it might be arthritis. (He's only 28 so it's shit if it's that).

Yesterday it was just red on the knee cap but today it's like this. All of his knee is very hot

Is this OK? Or does it need looking at again? I'm worried about the redness spreading / infection.

Obviously it's Friday afternoon plus we go on holiday Monday so need to try to see someone quick if so.

He feels fine other than his knee. Did just take his temp with a known to be unreliable thermometer and it was 38. But as I say it's really not very reliable.

What's your feeling?
Thanks

@GlitteryFluff please take olympicsrock's advice and get your DH seen.
I contracted septic arthritis as a complication of another illness. I was very ill and it has left me with permanent damage.

notapizzaeater · 31/08/2018 18:04

You need y9 be seen, if you are away next week then sooner the better.

Another doc here. A hot, red, swollen, painful joint is septic arthritis until proven otherwise. A&E now.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 31/08/2018 18:07

Why would you not go and get it seen now, as advised by a doctor on here, who has at least seen a photo of the knee, unlike the person you spoke to on the phone.
But fine. Let him risk his health and your holiday next week, being a hero.

flowerpot1000000 · 31/08/2018 18:11

Please take the advice on here and go to A&E NOW. Surely better to be safe.

MrsMozart · 31/08/2018 18:13

Please get him to A&E.

It's just not worth the risk, and I speak as someone who walked round for nearly two days with a broken back. If I'd ignored my nurse friend I'd probably have ended up paralysed.

GlitteryFluff · 31/08/2018 18:14

He's on his way to hospital now.
Will update when I hear from him.
I can't go with as got the kids but will sort something out if I need to.
Thank you everyone.

yep. go now.
dc's ankle looked similar when they had osteomyelitis (inflammation of the bone)

MrsMozart · 31/08/2018 18:16

Glittery so good to read he's on his way.

A handhold from me.

My step dad had something like this and in his case it turned out to be a DVT. He had treatment and was absolutely fine afterwards.

Hope he gets some answers and feels better soon.

GlitteryFluff · 31/08/2018 18:27

We're meant to be going to Snowdonia on Monday to hike up small mountains and walk round lakes and have a lovely time. Sad

Could it just be a sore knee and that's all?
If he wore a knee brace and took painkillers he was fine.

I agree with Olympic. Sounds like septic arthritis, which DS had when he was 17months old. The OOO doctor sent us straight to A&E.

Atalune · 31/08/2018 18:31

Hope your DH is alright. Best of luck.

CuriosityDoor · 31/08/2018 18:33

🤞 he's ok and you can still enjoy your holiday!

GlitteryFluff · 31/08/2018 18:36

Also just to whinge the doctor yesterday didn't actually look at his knee. Dh even said did you want to have a look whilst pulling up his trousers and the doctor said no it's fine.

HollySwift · 31/08/2018 18:39

Skip doctors - get straight to ED now! Septic arthritis is a medical emergency and, incidentally, fucking horrendously painful! I had it at 18 and was on morphine for weeks. I have permanent joint damage. Please take him now!

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 31/08/2018 18:40

Well that doesn't sound very thorough. I'd be following that up if there's an issue with it at A&E.

The doctor didn't even examine it?!? That's terrible!

GlitteryFluff · 31/08/2018 19:01

He's had temp, bloods and someone's 'touched' his knee.
They categorised it as priority 4 minor whatever that means.

OP posts:
GlitteryFluff · 31/08/2018 19:02

No the doctor yesterday didn't look at all.

Haggisfish · 31/08/2018 19:05

How infuriating. Has he said ‘I’m worried it’s septic arthritis. What makes you think it isn’t this?’. That’s what I ask in similar situations.

franchesco · 31/08/2018 19:13

Hope it's ok OP
