What crossbreed dogs would you like to see ?

I hope this doesn't sound Frankensteiny. Poodles and spaniels are routinely cross bred so I don't see why others can't, within reason.

Pointers, especially GSPs and Weimaraners, are very sleek, elegant animals and I like the boisterous affection of Labradors. A cross of these two could produce a handsome dog that isn't prone to getting fat !

Obviously, a Jack Russell - St.Bernard cross is a non-starter.

Isn't a Jack Tzu also known as a Jack Shiht Grin

IndigoSpritz · 31/08/2018 17:52

I think a cross of any Pointer breed would be promising in looks. Let's remember, all domestic dogs are ultimately descended from wolves and along the way have been the subject of selective breeding to get where we are today. I concede I find the idea of designer dogs unappealing purely for appearance's sake but there may be benefits in eventually eradicating unwelcome traits such as hip and ear problems.

I find it fascinating how dogs were selectively bred into different breeds in the first place. They’re just so different it’s hard to understand.

German short haired pointer X greyhound are used for sprint cani cross, they have a ridiculous vo2 max, I watched a documentary about cani cross at an outdoor film festival, and they compared the vo2 max of gsp x greyhound with the likes of Lance Armstrong (at his drug enhanced best) and the difference was insane!!

Davros · 31/08/2018 18:43

I'd like a Bedlington Terrier crossed with a Border Terrier because they are my favourites. A Bordlington Terrier?

YeTalkShiteHen · 31/08/2018 18:45

MrsMozart oh no really? I had a GSDxLab and he was lovely!

Those pomsky things, why? And how? Surely the Pom would have to be the father?

I hate designer dog breeding. Give me a mutt any day.

Haint · 31/08/2018 18:48

You want a pointer cross? Pop over to Cyprus where literally thousands roam in emaciated states

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 31/08/2018 18:49

how about Foxhound cross Poodle to make a fox-poo?

KarrisWhiteOak · 31/08/2018 18:53

When I was younger I thought a Dalmatian x German shepherd would be amazing. I imagined it to be shape of GSD but spotty.
I’d have called it a Dalsatian

billybagpuss · 31/08/2018 18:54

I have a golden retriever/border collie and she's amazing.

LARLARLAND · 31/08/2018 18:54

Jack Shitz Grin

Idontmeanto · 31/08/2018 18:54

Ds is obsessed with wanting a Dalmatian. We need something smaller. Perhaps a springation?

Isentthesignal · 31/08/2018 19:03

We had gsd cross with lab when I was growing up - he was a bloody nightmare dog.

percheron67 · 31/08/2018 19:24

I don't think we should mess with pure breeds. It often has an unhappy ending.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 31/08/2018 19:26

personaly I think that making breeds 'pure' has already had an unhappy ending...

CMOTDibbler · 31/08/2018 19:27

One of mine is probably a whippet x doberman and is insanely gorgeous.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 31/08/2018 21:17

Wouldnt a fox-poo smell?
Cocker spaniel x Rottweiler = cock rot.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 31/08/2018 21:46

I have an (unfashionable) cross.

What a lot of people don't seem to realise is that crossbreeds are a random mixture of the traits of two breeds. Crossing does not bring out the best of both, you could equally get the worst of both.

Mine definitely takes more after one side of the family than the other. When I bumped into someone with the same cross her dog was much more towards the other side of the family. Totally different dogs with totally different needs, despite being the same cross.

I'm no snob, but I do think there's a suitable existing breed available for almost every use, and some of these crosses are being created for nothing more than people thinking the result will be cute - pomskys being a good example.

glenthebattleostrich · 31/08/2018 22:04

We have a cockerpoo. We didn't want a big dog but needed lots of energy and to be low allergy.

She's just a baby but the personality she's showing so far is brilliant. Friendly, inquisitive, cuddly and patient. She enjoys nothing more than a fight with her mouse toy then a cuddle, in my arms on her back like a baby!

glenthebattleostrich · 31/08/2018 22:05

And I am a massive fan of mongrels. I have friends with pedigrees who have so many problems because of the inbreeding and the breed standard.

tenbob · 31/08/2018 22:16

My vet loves staffy-whippet crosses
He has had a couple and says he has never met one that isn't a perfect dog

For the pure visual novelty, anything crossed with a corgi
They keep the corgi body shape but take on the markings of the other breed
Google corgi- husky/dalmation/GS/Labrador/poodle/rottie cross

We had corgis though, and they are utterly feisty so god knows what the end result of some of these pairings must be like

Maelstrop · 31/08/2018 23:49

Dalmatian outcrossed with a pointer (already been done, I think) to alleviate the purine issue.

All pugs and other brachycephalic (flat faced) dogs should be outcrossed to totally eliminate the breathing issues these poor dogs have.

My breed is something like 3rd most common in the U.K. I’d like to see more foreign blood used as the same names keep cropping up, it’s obviously not good for the breed.

MidniteScribbler · 01/09/2018 00:11

I've heard of Labrador/Golden Retriever crosses being bred specifically as Guide Dogs.

I once saw the most beautiful pair of dogs - saluki x flat-coated retriever. The pure black shaggy coat of the retriever but the shape of a saluki. With a touch of retriever in the face.

Phenomenally stunning dogs. A complete accident though - the saluki mother was apparently a bit of an escape artist...

PickAChew · 01/09/2018 00:22

Irish wolfhuahua.
