Hotel room not made up - would this bother you?

Back from a day trip and hotel room hasn’t been touched. So beds unmade, bathroom not freshened or cups cleaned and water, coffee etc not replaced.

I mentioned it to a member of staff before dinner and asked if it could be done. Just come upstairs and it is still untouched, so I’ve just made the beds, folded the towels (we’d left in bath to be replaced) and washed the cups.

We are only away for 4 nights and hotel is £200 b&b per night (special holiday we have saved up for).

Would this bother you?

Yes. Was the Do No Disturb sign left on by any chance? That’s the only reason I would accept it not being done.

redsummershoes · 29/08/2018 22:44

for that amount of money and after you asked for that - absolutely.

MrsEricBana · 29/08/2018 22:44

Yes it would. The only times it has happened to me have been when housekeeping gave been unable to enter room because I accidentally left Do Not Disturb type sign on door when we went out, so my fault. It's one if the things you're paying for.

Yanbu!

Golde · 29/08/2018 22:45

Yes it would

BrutusMcDogface · 29/08/2018 22:45

Oops, wrong topic but you know what I mean! Grin

NapQueen · 29/08/2018 22:45

Definetly ask to speak to the Duty Manager in the morning. Missing a room is crap but human error. Failing to then resolve an easy fix known problem is properly crap service

HollowTalk · 29/08/2018 22:46

For £200? That's really terrible. They do it in a Premier Inn, ffs, so why not there? I would complain about that to reception.

MrsChollySawcutt · 29/08/2018 22:49

Yes it would definitely bother me.

Some of the big chains have started offering reward points if you opt not to have your room refreshed. I'm in a Crowne Plaza right now that offers 500 points if you leave a card on the door saying you don't require the room to be serviced.

Complain at checkout.

PUGaLUGS · 29/08/2018 22:50

I would expect it to be done.

Mrsfloss · 29/08/2018 22:50

It absolutely wouldn’t bother me as even if paying a fortune I still feel less than and don’t mind doing it myself.

DH would be raging

ProseccoPoppy · 29/08/2018 22:52

That would bother me. A lot actually.

margotsdevil · 30/08/2018 08:05

That's one of the best bits about staying in a posh hotel for me - obviously I can make a bed but not as nicely as they do! It's just part of the whole experience. If you mentioned it and they still didn't fix it I'd be complaining.

Lweji · 30/08/2018 08:10

It has never happened to me in any hotel. Posh or not.
I'd be very annoyed

Which member of staff did you speak to?
I'd now ask for the manager.

OliviaStabler · 30/08/2018 08:12

Definitely would bother me. I'd complain at the front desk in the morning.

Gersemi · 30/08/2018 08:16

Some hotels have a system whereby you put a notice out if you want the room made up. Are you sure your hotel doesn't operate that system?

Ezzie29 · 30/08/2018 08:21

I’m not a fussy person when it comes to hotels, but I’d still not be impressed with that! As has been said above, it’s part of the experience. It’s lovely getting back at the end of the day to a nice clean hotel room (especially the made up bed, I never remember to make my bed at home) and it’s especially bad that you asked for it to be done and they just didn’t.

superram · 30/08/2018 08:32

Hotel yes, b&b no. However, you don’t need clean towels if you are only there 4 days and do you really need your bed made? Emptying bin, yes, everything else you’ve mentioned no.

Lweji · 30/08/2018 08:36

Why not B&B?

AveABanana · 30/08/2018 08:41

Did you phone down for new towels?

Idontmeanto · 30/08/2018 08:42

I’m those circumstances I would be annoyed, complaining and looking for a partial refund.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 30/08/2018 08:43

superram - you really don’t want clean cups for your tea/coffee? Or, come to that, more tea/coffee if you’ve run out?

And for £200 a night, it’s not a question of need, is it? It’s a question of a service which you have paid for and therefore want delivered. If you went into a shop and paid £200 for your grocery shopping, and they only gave you the half they deemed you needed but kept back all the little treats, you’d be OK with that, would you? Even though you’d paid for all of it?

ElizabethMainwaring · 30/08/2018 08:44

Superram - OP is in a hotel. She is paying for bed and breakfast.
How on earth can another person know if one needs or wants new towels?
OP - you are definitely not being unreasonable. That is terrible service.

clayspaniel · 30/08/2018 08:49

Had this in a Travelodge and they didn't charge for that night.

Sitranced · 30/08/2018 08:54

It wouldn't bother me so much, however as you asked specifically during dinner then it would bother me.
