Bless me or pardon me when sneezing?

When other people sneeze I usually say bless you, if I sneeze I say bless me. Always have done, probably because my parents do too.

DP says pardon me if he sneezes Confused

Just curious as to what's the norm for people?

I am in no way religious so saying bless me isn't a religious thing for me, it's only just occurred to me recently that it might even be construed as a religious thing? Grin

Bless you/bless me in our house

HoleyCoMoley · 29/08/2018 21:27

excuse me

JustlikeDevon · 29/08/2018 21:27

I always say bless you. I neither bless nor excuse myself.
As am aside, I loved the film Singles- Bridget Fonda wanted to meet a man who would say gesundheit when she sneezed. Great film.

IllGiveYouSomethingToCryAbout · 29/08/2018 21:28

You can't bless yourself! Well, it sounds odd to me. Grin

I say excuse me.

Sitranced · 29/08/2018 21:29

Oh dear

museumum · 29/08/2018 21:29

Bless you
Excuse me

LifeHackQueens · 29/08/2018 21:30

I say excuse me and then say bless us.

missmouse101 · 29/08/2018 21:30

Cba with any of that blessing crap. We don't say anything at all.

LifeHackQueens · 29/08/2018 21:30

I also say "bless you" to others when they sneeze.

CountTessa · 29/08/2018 21:31

Bless you

Pardon me is for other noises off

Dhalandchips · 29/08/2018 21:31

Nope, don't say anything either

Dadsbigsausages · 29/08/2018 21:31

Excuse me if I sneeze, bless you if someone else does. I wish I said pardon me but I always forget.

ShesABelter · 29/08/2018 21:31

I say bless you to someone else and excuse me when I sneeze. But really do we need to say anything? Surely when it's an involuntary reaction that isn't burping or passing wind we shouldn't need to? It isn't exactly rude to sneeze or yawn so shouldn't need excused or pardoned.

TheFaerieQueene · 29/08/2018 21:33

Nothing. It is an involuntary response to an irritant. Doesn’t require an apology and as for blessing, well that means nothing to me.

dudsville · 29/08/2018 21:34

I find it annoying that we have sayings for sneezing. We don't with coughing. With a burp or a fart it's just"excuse me" with no blessings stowed.

HolyMountain · 29/08/2018 21:36

Excuse me.

Nogodsnomasters · 29/08/2018 21:39

Bless you/bless me for sneezes. Pardon me for passing wind. Excuse me for yawning in company that is not family.

DappledThings · 29/08/2018 21:42

I've trained my toddler to say gesundheit when someone sneezes. My dad's always said it.

Tink1990 · 29/08/2018 21:48

Bless you/bless me

FlorencesHunger · 29/08/2018 21:49

It usually goes urrrghhhh excuse me.
Grin

Wolfiefan · 29/08/2018 21:49

Bless.
Wasn't sneezing an early sign of plague or something so you're warding off the nasties (or some such superstitious nonsense!)

PaintBySticker · 29/08/2018 21:54

I don’t say anything when I sneeze. Maybe ‘excuse me’ if it’s a really inopportune time and I interrupted someone’s big moment or something.

Ginslinger · 29/08/2018 21:55

excuse me

ButterflyOfFreedom · 29/08/2018 21:56

Bless you
Excise me
