Could anyone offer some encouragement and support for a moment

Name changed

I'm on day 91 of quitting gambling and today is really hard. I've got a horrible mental itch that I can't scratch and nobody from my support network is available to talk - working/holidays/bank holiday madness!

I'm not going to gamble. I know that and I'm in control. But can anyone distract me a little to ease this itch? I've been laying in bed for an hour tossing and turning, I thought sleep would help but I'm too distracted I can't...

@MorningsEleven I feel you. Booze is my next one. I quit smoking and gambling together but I couldn't hit all three. I need to get my itches under control and then it's the wine witch
Well done you for being back on it

91 days that is amazing Star. How about some podcasts? How about a programme that makes you laugh? What was the last film you saw and loved? What did you get your DD? How about making lists? For Christmas? Of all the places you have been and loved? Of your favourite songs? Of all your friends past and present and what they bring/brought to your life? I do like a good list Grin - I often do all the places I have lived (too many)!

Grave Start with the red one if you like tomatoes, especially sundried ones! Really nice with pasta or in the Forever Sandwich. The green one is a completely different taste and not one of my favourite things tbh!

MarthaHanson · 26/08/2018 23:21

You are amazing. I am day 33 of being sober and it’s not fucking easy, so I think you are a total superhero to be nearly 100days no gambling. I find podcasts to be such a help-I don’t know if you’ve listened to The One you Feed, which is all about overcoming addictions.

I echo all the Bristol love and recommend also the nearby Avebury stone circle for a visit, really very interesting, the largest stone circle in Europe-my fact for the thread!

AdaColeman · 26/08/2018 23:21

You go to Bristol be sure to visit the SS Great Britain, it's amazing!

Mmm -stuffed peppers with pesto, feta, cherry tomatoes and olives. Grin

@Xiaoxiong that sounds brilliant! I know our eldest would love that!
Have you ever been to the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester? It was brilliant

Yes loved the sex towel thread too 😁!
Also I go to centre parcs each year but wear big knickers in bed to protect my oxo tower. Although tempted to take some sex lube and a fish slice next time I go! (I'm reading mumsnet far too much!)

Ok now I need to find the 'apparently I'm dead' thread unless anyone has a link!

Well done to all the posters for doing well Thanks

Atalune · 26/08/2018 23:29

Hey!

Well done you’re amazing and you’re going to feel so good in the morning.

Bristol- I used to live there so ask me anything.

How can you have not tried pesto? With pasta, crumbled feta on top with very very finely sliced aping onions on top. It’s very tasty.

What’s your favourite dinner?

Mine has to be Thai Penang curry, and pad Thai.

Grave · 26/08/2018 23:31

@Atalune what is an aping onion?!

OP posts:
Xiaoxiong · 26/08/2018 23:33

Atalune is Bristol as nice to live in as it was to visit? It just seemed pretty perfect to me - all the things I love about London without the drawbacks. But I realise a long weekend of doing tourist stuff doesn't show you what it's like to actually live there!!

I've never been to that museum in Manchester OP, sounds like that will have to be our next weekend trip!!

MorningsEleven · 26/08/2018 23:36

@grave thank you.

I'm stuck on my favourite sandwich.

For my pack up tomorrow I'm having rosemary focaccia with leerdammer, olives and tomatoes. I'm quite excited about my sandwich. No pesto though because it's too basilly.

Grave · 26/08/2018 23:37

@House4 Apparently, I'm Dead.www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/3166936-Apparently-Im-Dead

Honestly the only thread on Mumsnet I've ever read from start to finish!

Well done lovely, if you need a distraction then I highly recommend the podcast 'my dad wrote a porno' it's hilarious and will keep you going a while

Spandang · 26/08/2018 23:39

@morningseleven

Can you make my pack up please? Sounds amazing!

Grave · 26/08/2018 23:39

@MorningsEleven wow that's Fancy and sounds delicious, I love naice bread. Co-op used to do an amazing Mediterranean bread. I can eat that by the loaf in one sitting!

OP posts:
Grave · 26/08/2018 23:40

@afreshnewname I've never actually listened to a podcast... I'm a bit behind the times, we've only just got Netflix! But I am definitely going to have to start trying them

Grave · 26/08/2018 23:42

I'm a long term sober alcoholic and one suggestion I'd make is a Gratitude List. Actually write down everything at this moment for which you are grateful. Even very small things. Start with your DC and keep going.

The feelings that send us back to our addictions are baffling and powerful. One of the strongest is self pity. It is impossible to feel self pity and gratitude at the same time. Gratitude has saved a lot of us from addictions.

Grave · 26/08/2018 23:50

@Prawnofthepatriarchy thank you, that is a brilliant idea

Thank you all so much. The itch has gone. I'm going to empty the dishwasher and head back to bed and feel grateful that instead of wasting 4/5 hours gambling tonight I changed the sheets and have nice new bedding to crawl into.
Thank you so much
