I really want to move and make a fresh start. Where in the UK should I move to? I have very few ties and genuinely want to do this.

Northumberland. Beautiful coast and country but also close to Newcastle and Edinburgh for a bit of city life. I'd move there tomorrow if I could.

theunsure · 26/08/2018 07:40

Rutland

But only if you want the country life! (And you aren’t a second home London wanker as we have enough of those!).

I live in the best place in the uk

Great schools, great social activities, two municipal pools, river sports, four Cycling clubs, two book clubs, other social clubs

Great shopping, many cafes- probably to many

Great market

Good train links and Motorway links 1.20 by train to London 25 minutes to Birmingham
10 minutes on bike into countryside,

Plenty of jobs

Nice parks and many activities in parks

Two castles

BikeRunSki · 26/08/2018 07:42

Alnwick and Warwick often come up in these type of polls.

Finfintytint · 26/08/2018 07:46

What appeals to you op?
City, coast, countryside?
In my biased opinion Shropshire is the best place.

flumpybear · 26/08/2018 07:48

What's your budget? What do you like out of life and need in a home?

theaveragewife · 26/08/2018 07:48

ivykaty44 shhhh we don’t need the house prices to go up more.

FurryDice · 26/08/2018 07:49

Currently in cambridge and utterly sick of overpriced city life. Want peace and quiet and a slow pace of life. Don’t need wild nightlife; just want some peace and not such high density living.

I would love to move to Scotland. Specifically Edinburgh. It's my favourite place to be. Can't though now as my dc are teens and although 2 would be happy to move my middle child would hate me forever. Plus my dm would feel abandoned and she wouldn't come with us unfortunately.

Finfintytint · 26/08/2018 07:54

We moved from Essex to Shropshire for similar reasons. Very peaceful and cheap!

ivykaty44 · 26/08/2018 08:07

Theaveragewife, I didn’t realise you lived here to! 😅

FurryDice · 26/08/2018 08:10

Have been considering Norfolk in general but Norwich specifically? Alan Partridge aside, Is this a bad idea?

OP posts:
ivykaty44 · 26/08/2018 08:12

Someone on here the other week complains how bad Norfolk was and everyone agreeing...

FurryDice · 26/08/2018 08:14

Ok that idea can fuck off then.

I’d love to be near to the coast, though

West Wales..:)

anniehm · 26/08/2018 08:21

Depends on what you need for work and your budget. The East Midlands is affordable in the most part (avoid inside the national park) and has peaceful countryside with smallish cities (but big enough to have a full set of shops) we are only a little over an hour from central London if you feel the need to visit and have two airports nearby (and only 1.5 hours to Heathrow on a good day). I live on the edge of the city so I have public transport, cheap cabs (we use them more than buses) but within five mins drive or 15 mins walk I'm in rolling hills. Best of all, not too many tourists - I hated living in Cambridge. Plenty commute to London from here but it's £10K a year

lastqueenofscotland · 26/08/2018 08:24

I grew up in the remote highlands and am here for a week for my DMs birthday.
Stunning but it’s a TWO HOUR drive to the supermarket...

AJPTaylor · 26/08/2018 08:30

East Sussex.
Rural
Coast
Beautiful
Enough going on.
An hour and a bit to London
Only downside. Hard to avoid m25 if you want to get to any other part of the country.

ivykaty44 · 26/08/2018 08:36

North Devon? Plenty of towns, coast, hills, counttryside

WrongKindOfFace · 26/08/2018 08:41

Norwich is nice, and parts of north Norfolk. And bits of Suffolk such as Southworld - not sure I’d want to live there though. Some bits are shitholes though, much like anywhere else. I think it was Kings Lynn that was mentioned as being a dump? The downside to Norwich is that it’s so far from anywhere else on shitty roads.

WrongKindOfFace · 26/08/2018 08:44

Oh, Northumberland is mentioned up thread. Some lovely places and fab beaches. Bit nippy though.

What exactly do you want from your new home? What are your must haves?

Skyejuly · 26/08/2018 08:51

Woodbridge- suffolk?

Bluesheep8 · 26/08/2018 09:04

West Yorkshire. Beautiful countryside and well served by motorways and transport links, warm and friendly people.

FurryDice · 26/08/2018 18:09

I don’t really have a list of things I want as such. I’d just like to know great places to live and take it from there. thanks for the suggestions so far.
